As far as I'm concerned, Jackson Browne is one of the best singer/song writers of the 1970's. Check out - "The Late Show", "For a Dancer", "Your Bright Baby Blues", "The Only Child", "Love Needs a Heart", "Looking into you", "From Silver Lake', & "Something Fine". All good songs. You guys are cool, I enjoy your channel.

From your picks I can tell you are a real JB fan. Jackson was a comforting symbiotic friend during “those days” of my youth. no pun intended ( those days)🎶
Jackson Browne started his career writing songs for other artists such as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (he was briefly a member in 1966) & the Eagles (Browne co-wrote "Take It Easy"). But in the 70's he started recording his own songs. He had a lot of hits 70's-80's such as "Rock Me On The Water", "Here Come Those Tears Again", "The Pretender", "Running On Empty", "Somebody's Baby", "Tender Is The Night" etc.
Take it easy was JB’s song. It was unfinished and Glenn Frey kept bugging him to finish it so the Eagles could record it. Finally JB said Glenn could amd Glenn added a very few lines.
So many greats by this man, The Pretender being my favorite, Running on empty, take it easy(a hit for the eagles) On the Boulevard and the comments will give you many more. One of the greatest singer/song writers ever, bar none. Check out more, you won't be disappointed. Rock on y'all.
Jesse Ed Davis rips it on guitar! Legend is that he just came into the studio and busted out that solo on the first pass, not written in advance or planed. Amazing!
Thanks for throwing this one out there.. This song haunted me for years thinking of a high school girlfriend of mine who was so much like the girl in this song. She was a friend to me when I needed one.. but now she’s my wife and the love of my life. And yes, that girl does SING..
@@laudanum669 So sorry to hear this, as I know how it can be having said the same for many years. I thought I had lost her, but also concluded that if she had changed into quite a different person that I had known, then I was at peace with the universe driving us in different directions. We had both went on to have marriages that ended in divorce, and I had arrived at a place that for the first time I felt ok on my own and wasn’t too concerned with investing in another relationship when it all came together for us. "Was I unwise to leave them open for so long?" I really like how the guitar solo resembles tears falling, fits and starts at first, building towards a wail. The bass line really grooves in the chorus too. David Crosby and Graham Nash sang the backup vocals and Jesse Ed Davis played lead guitar. Browne wrote the song in 1971. The years he sings about could well be the late 1960's filled with wars, riots, and assassinations, take your pick. Jackson Browne is also well known for writting the Eagle's classic "Take It Easy" together with Glenn Fry. This instrumentation on this song is incredible. The bass line is especially fine. It was played by the legendary bassist Leland "Lee" Sklar, who has his own great TH-cam channel.
"Colors of the Sun", "For Everyman", "Late For The Sky", "For a Dancer", "The Late Show", "Your Bright Baby Blues", "The Only Child", "My Opening Farewell", "Looking Into You", "From Silver Lake', "Something Fine", "I Am a Child", "These Days", "Lawyers in Love". Genius songs. There are many more. He is one of the true musical poets. His body of work will endure through the generations.
"These Days" is one of my favorites from Jackson Browne, though his song catalog is very deep! Lots of songs worth checking out. A great singer/songwriter of the 70s & 80s
Jackson is known for deep lyrics and good music, particularly because he works with some of the best studio musicians of his day. These Days is a good song, so is Pretender. Pretender and Doctor My Eyes were played a lot on radio back in 70s. Running on Empty was also played a lot on radio.
On CNN's History of The Eagles, Glen Frye talks about living downstairs from Jackson Browne when he was writing this song and how he'd do the opening phrases on his piano over and over and over, then he'd write some more and then play up to that point over and over and at that moment, Frye realized what it takes to write songs - persistence, elbow grease, hard work.
In November 1978 I left college in the Midwest and drove out to LA. I remember going in one day from OKC to Phoenix (about 1000 miles) repeatedly playing the “Running on Empty” album on the cassette deck as I went through the Texas panhandle in fog so thick I couldn’t see past the hood of the car and then almost running out of gas as I went through Flagstaff until someone on the CB could direct me to a gas station. Those were the days.
I've got a pic of my son with Jackson in Jamaica a few years back, he was the guitar tech for Little Feat and Jackson played their annual Ramble On the Island fest. Cool dude. 🤘✌️
What a great song. Deep lyrics by Jackson and some great playing, the greatest of which is the absolutely perfect guitar solo by the always-tasteful and soulful Jesse Ed Davis.
I love this song and cannot count how many times I played this whole album over and over again. Definitely check out Rock Me On the Water and Something Fine from the same debut album. Jesse Ed Davis plays that fantastic guitar solo in Doctor, My Eyes.
Jackson Browne is a musician’s musician. And, that well is deep! He is one of the best singer songwriters of the 70’s and 80’s. He also, co-wrote Take It Easy with Glenn Frey which got the Eagles off the ground.
He STILL sounds fiiiiiiiiine. . .fifty freaking years later. . .and he's touring! (I still have the original album from '72.) One of the greatest singer/songwriters. Period.
Jackson Browne represents a wonderful rabbit hole for your perusal. Aside from his many hits Ive always found more riches in his extensive catalogue in songs never taking off as single hits. The guy is legendary. In The Shape of a Heart is a masterpiece for me.
“Doctor my eyes, they cannot see the sky, is this the prize for learning how not to cry?” Sobering, powerful theme against the backdrop of jazzy, upbeat music. Interestingly effective.
This guy is a tremendous lyricist and songwriter. Check out "These Days." He wrote it when he was sixteen years old. Love your channel, you guys, it always picks me up and makes my day!
If they're not blocked, check out the live late 1970's videos of both "Running On Empty" and "The Load Out/Stay". Excellent musicians, vocals and messages.
Jackson Browne is one of my favorite singer/songwriters. His first album (Together Again) was released in 1971, and his music has only gotten better. He co-wrote the Eagles first hit "Take It Easy" with Glenn Frey. He also sang with The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in the mid to late 60's before going solo. In 2007, he was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame.
Jackson is writing about wanting to see the world as it is, thorns and all. No sugar coating. A contemporary of his I really love is Dan Fogelberg, album name "Souvenirs."
One of the best singer-songwriters of the last 50 years. A giant! The Pretender, Walking Slow, Lives In The Balance, Lawless Avenues, the Road and the Sky, For A Dancer...and dozens and dozens more. A GIANT!
Jackson Browne wrote a lot of beautiful songs, some of them when he was incredibly young. Many artists, including Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor have recorded his songs. I love his voice too🌺✌️
Jackson Brown "Doctor My Eyes"!!! Great!!! "Running on Empty" & "Load out" which is about at the end of the concert can you stay just a little bit longer. BTW Jackson Brown had the basement apartment under Glenn Frey's apartment (Before The eagles) and Glenn said he could hear how Jackson would work out a song which helped Glenn learn how to write songs. Also it was Jackson Brown that started writing "Take It Easy" but then got stuck on the lyrics. Glenn then took it and he began with the lyrics " It's A Girl My Lord In A Flat Bed Ford"
Fountain of Sorrow. After the Deluge. These are great Jackson Browne songs. Good reaction guys, yes, you tuned into the lyrics - and that’s where the treasure is in Jackson Browne. Definitely.
Don’t sleep on those amazing backing vocals from David Crosby and Graham Nash. Jackson Browne is an Excellent songwriter! “These Days” is a study in lyrical genius, and I especially love Nico’s cover of it. “Running on Empty” is also his classic. *Hope you check out some Boz Scaggs like “Lowdown” & “Jojo” soon 🔥
I've always really liked Jackson Browne. Great song writer. He actually started writing "Take it Easy", but was having trouble completing it. It gave what he had written to Glen Frye of the Eagles who completed the song and it was a huge hit for the Eagles.
Jackson Browne’s singer/songwriter style always puts me in mind one of other most favourite artists, Gerry Rafferty. One from the US and the other from the UK, both brilliant.
Please do more Jackson Browne! You can't miss with his music. He Co wrote songs for the eagles, he wrote songs for movie soundtracks....he's a master and his music is real.
And his other hits were on the radio so much when I was a kid but it was one of the artists that I really never got tired of hearing because it's just so good. And now that I'm older, I can see what a brilliant songwriter he was. And I played music for years and I really appreciate the arrangements and of course his voice is lovely. His album Running on Empty is phenomenal but the single that I bought in high school that always made me feel emotional and I've seen other people recommended here, is called Load Out / Stay. It's about after the show is over and the Roadies are packing up all the stage gear and the arena is now empty but he's telling them please leave my piano to be the last thing cuz he just wants to keep playing it. And then it's time to get on the bus and travel to the next town and then do the next show. But then the second part, which is side B of the single, and there are TH-cam videos that put the two back to back with just a slight Gap because they're meant to be one continuous song on the album is during the show and he's saying hey people stay please stay, make us play a little longer and you can hear audience noise in the background and stuff and it's a lot more upbeat. It's just a wonderful and emotional composition.
He is one of premier arts of our time. He has written many of his own songd and many for others. My favorites besides this one are: running on empy, the load out/stay, and lawyers in love. He is a very talented musician and had a great band along with him. Seveal of his songs have used in movies.
Besides the usual AM radio hits, he had a tongue and cheek sense of humor. "The Road and Sky" and "Redneck Friend". They are great songs and both have great steel guitar playing in them.
Ol' Jackson Browne has had a long, varied career. Most of it he has been in front of his band on the road, but he has done a lot of supporting work for others as well. My favorite little two song segue i from the album The Pretender, when he does "The Loadout" into his cover of "Stay", it shows some real good emotion, and the reaction of the live audience is classic.
Jackson Browne is still putting out great music with depth and purpose! Barricades of Heaven, A Human Touch, Walls and Doors! All Fire! Fingers Crossed to see him and James Taylor perform here in May.
So happy you’re on to Jackson. I’ve been a fan since forever. This song is a vibe and it sounds as good today as when it was released in 1978. Please do “Here Come Those Tears Again” next. I think you’ll really like it. ❤️
Thx! One of my favorites! There was a time when mellow music was in vogue. Shout out to Jesse Ed Davis on guitar and Leland Sklar on bass! Russ Kunkel on drums and Crosby and Graham on backing vocals! Great piece! Love Jackson Browne!
Thanks Asia and BJ for reviewing this song and it's made me emotional hearing that song again and your comments. This song always captures my heart and soul. We are all doing our best in the inner city helping the kids and making a positive difference in our community. God bless
1972, I graduated HS....forgot this one. 50 year reunion this year, WOW...Thank You fun to reminese. Great music 60s 70s...music changed dramatically, but with hard times great music comes out of it......Thank You for introducing me to new talent, I even like some Rap, Harry Mack, Jelly Roll, and many others....🤗
Jackson Browne is a legend of the SoCal scene. What great music and stories. And a great collaborator with other acts. Worthy of deeper investigation into the body of his work.
Jackson Brown is a genius philosopher who can express his thoughts and feelings about a subject and put it to music better than just about anyone else. You absolutely have to hear Running On Empty, That Girl Could Sing, Love Needs A Heart, Somebody’s Baby, Lawyers In Love,The Loadout/Stay and many others. He was Glen Frye’s (Eagles) roommate and gave them a song (Take It Easy)that became one of their first hits. This Dude is ALL THAT AND MORE.
This was a huge hit in the early 70s and was always on the radio for years afterwards. JB had a string of hits back then and was as popular as Elton John, James Taylor, Steve Miller, and Jim Croce.

The Fuse, Your Bright Baby Blues...hell, the whole Pretender album!

Maybe it was the album "Running On Empty", I may have goofed.
"Tender Is The Night" by Browne is my favorite by him.
Hi guys.
Jackson just hits different. He tackles life and humanity. No silly love songs for him and I like it.
Jackson Browne is a great singer, songwriter and artist! His best album is Late for the Sky
One of my all time favorites…Jackson Browne…huge when i was a teenager in the 70’s
Jackson Browne is my favorite. Great song, but you guys have to check out some more by him!
Thx! One of my favorites! There was a time when mellow music was in vogue. Shout out to Jesse Ed Davis on guitar and Leland Sklar on bass! Russ Kunkel on drums and Crosby and Graham on backing vocals! Great piece! Love Jackson Browne!
Another vote for "The Pretender" . The lyrics on screen suggested. Great song and message 👍👌✌️
Thanks Asia and BJ for reviewing this song and it's made me emotional hearing that song again and your comments. This song always captures my heart and soul. We are all doing our best in the inner city helping the kids and making a positive difference in our community. God bless
He is still at it even in his seventies. I just saw him on a recent Austin City Limits and he still performs so professionally.
JB is a genius! "Late for the Sky" album is a masterpiece. Still making superb music with a new album out recently,. A lot to explore!!
Running On Empty really says something too. My personal favorite by Jackson Browne
Y'all are hitting all my teen years tonight!
The Pretender is a MUST…..it’s a lyrical masterpiece!!
Browne is part of the singer/ songwriter genre. And one of the best.
When people wrote lyrics that meant something.
This was a huge hit in the early 70s and was always on the radio for years afterwards. JB had a string of hits back then and was as popular as Elton John, James Taylor, Steve Miller, and Jim Croce.
This guy was a go to in the 70’s for great lyrics and folk rock. I was a kid when this song came out and it was always one of my favorites.
