I have had this fridge for about 2 weeks. I love it. Quiet and quickly cools down. Just remember to turn it down to eco mode after it is cooled down. Otherwise it will drain batteries during the night. I am real happy with it. Ice cream stays frozen and milk doesn't freeze on the fridge side. I feel so lucky to have it.

So you need a power station to run it? It has no built in battery for short periods of time?

This thing sits permanently in my 4runner and I've taken it on half dozen off-road trips so far with no issues. Get the fridge slider with it for ease of use.

I picked up a VL60 dual-zone a couple of months ago, using your discount code (Yay!), and it's been great. I also have a Jackery 1000 but no solar panels yet. Last week I ran the large zone set to 32F and on max for basically 3 days and the only charging the Jackery saw was from two 20 minute drives each day. Before heading out on the 5 hour drive back home the battery level of the Jackery was still 52%. Then after the 5 hour drive it was able to charge back up to 83%. I got this setup for overlanding and I think it's going to work amazingly well even without solar, which would be icing on the cake.

I had the VL60 through the hottest days this summer in my van and it worked flawlessly. I have 340 Watts of solar on top of the van with a Goal Zero Yeti 1000 and in the morning I still had 71% left on the battery. It is heavy and with some movement while driving, the jacket covering became skewed often so I removed it. I like the suggestion of adding some cardboard to prevent freezing on the fridge side.

I bought one of these awhile ago, the packaging was horrible, it was a fairly thin cardboard box with three nylon type bands around it, when it arrived two of the bands were completely broken and the box was barely being held together with one band, it had a noticeable dent by the vents. Now that being said it works great and does seem well made, they just need to improve their packaging. I'm running mine 24/7 and it's run fine for the past six months.

@@HOBOTECH Mine I bought thru Amazon and shipped straight from ICECO USA. It was extremely well packed. Not only the heavy box with extra padding, but had a triple layer of bubble wrap around the outside of it. My only problem was getting it inside my house to unpack it.

It makes a big difference if you're running the VL60 in dual zone fridge/freezer vs fridge/fridge. Also, if you're using a LFP battery, set the fridge to low volt cutoff and let the BMS in your battery shut it down.Other wise it shuts down the fridge when you still have usable battery left, because of the voltage drop when it tries to start the compressor. My first test set to high, I got a compressor failed to start error code when I still had 1 volt of usable battery left. 12.5V on the first test and 11.5V on the 2nd test. Those changes made my system go from 7 days running to 13 days running off my 280AH LFP battery. I'll have to run another test with it in Eco mode some day. Remember, if you can, cool the fridge down on shore power, before switching to battery power and cool down what ever you're putting in it, if you can. The Insulated bag ICECO sells for this unit is very nicely made and should make a difference on how long it will run, plus protect it from scratches and some dents. If I was going off grid long term, I think I might pair this up with a VL40. Run the VL60 as my fridge and the VL40 as a freezer. IMO, that would be better than running a single 100L fridge/freezer. It is loud enough, you can hear it from 15 feet away, but not enough to disturb sleeping. With a common house fan turned on, I don't hear it at all. The large Harbor Freight furniture dolly is prefect to set it on at home and be able to roll it around. A strap from the handles and under the dolly hold it in place. UPS had mine on it's side in their delivery truck and ICECO customer service said to let it sit upright for 12 hours before turning it on. If you're not sure the freight company followed the arrows up in shipping, just let it sit overnight and it should be GTG.

Ordered this around the same time I ordered the AC 50S and AC 200, at the moment, I'm using both sides for additional freezer space for bulk items/emergency lockdown backup, I opted for this instead of a regular box freezer for it's flexibility and portability for future plans.... Got the AC50S to run the VL60 and the AC200 to run the house fridge in case of a power outage..... Thanks for the info! 😃👍🏻👊🏻

Thank you as always for your review, Hobo!! 🥰 I wish I could afford the price premium for dual-zone!! My JP50 cost me less than half that price.
For the power settings, note that they list 2 voltages. For example, on the low setting, it says "9.6 volts it's Off, when 10.9 volts it's On". In my experience with the JP50, you can pretty much ignore that lower voltage. I'm not sure what it's intended for. Because when the JP50 drops much below 11.0 volts, even in "Eco" mode, the refrigerator shuts down and returns a low power error code. It never sees that "9.6 volts". I'm guessing they mean if the power on the refrigerator is turned off, the "standby" circuitry can still run on as little as 9.6 volts. I'm not sure how that's helpful since nothing is displayed when the power is off.
I'm glad to see that they stacked the power input ports on this model as opposed to side-by-side. On the JP50 model, the 90-degree angle on the DC cord butts right up against the AC cord on so that you have to really jam them in there in order to have both plugged in at the same time. This puts undue stress and potential wear from rubbing on the DC cord. I e-mailed them about this problem, asking if they could send me a straight DC cord instead of a 90-degree and they pretty much brushed me off. So I trimmed off some of the reinforcement ribs on the DC plug and heated the plastic to permanently bend it so that there isn't constant stress on the cord. Basically, I had to create another 90-degree bend to offset the original 90-degree cord so that it didn't bang into the AC cord. That and a bad connection on the interior light were my only complaints with the JP50 - it's an otherwise amazing fridge (extremely quiet and efficient!) I just finished a test running it from a 36Ah LiFePO4 battery and it kept the temperature at 34°F in a 72°F room for 61.5 hours on "Eco" mode. That blows my mind, less than 8 watts per hour!
You might ask, 'why would you have them both plugged in simultaneously?" It's so that if AC power cuts out, DC power will automatically take over. (And, yes, I verified with them that it's able to operate in this manner - they can be plugged in simultaneously, and AC/mains power takes priority if power is present.) That's a fantastic feature, allowing the JP50 refrigerator to be used regularly on AC power while having emergency DC backup power available. I assume this model does the same. This is a key feature for emergency medical applications, and I'm surprised they don't point it out in their marketing.

After your review sometime back on the VL45 i went ahead and purchased the VL65 dual zone direct from Iceco. I did have some issues with getting it shipped with them. When it did finally get here the packaging was not the best but was undamaged. After letting it sit 24 hours I fired it up and now has been running non-stop for 6 months flawlessly! Should Iceco ask you for what kind of input you have been getting from your review let them know that the product is good but they need to work on timely shipping and packaging.
    Thank you for the recommendation

Amazon has the Iceco for $854 which includes the cover. I boondock a lot so I need the larger frige. The Iceco has screws holding the cover in place. So I can open it up to brush off the dust. The iceco plugs in the same way as my old one.

Great video! One thing I noticed is that you didn’t take it apart! I would like to see how they are doing the conversions of power.
Things to consider as this is a travel fridge. Perhaps a 12v VS 120v (wall outlet). Other control test to consider would be how efficient the insulation and controls are to different cold or hot ambient temps.
As always, hope all is well and thank you for the great information and content 👍

When running on AC, the volt meter on the readout shows 24V+. With the compressor off mine is showing 27V right now. When it cycled on it's showing 26V. My SWAG is a 110Vac to 24Vdc is more efficient, than 12V would be.

Please do MORE PORTABLE REFRIGERATOR REVIEWS. In an extended power outage, my wife and many people need to protect their meds. Please review very low power, tight temperature control portable refrigerators, so wont' require a high duty cycle from a solar inverter/generator. Thank you for the video and review I want to like this product and am considering purchasing one. From what I can tell from reviews and videos of the refrigerator it is a great product. My concern after reading over several pages of reviews on ICECO's website, is the damage the product can receive during the shipping process and what ICECO's response/action is to rectifying such an event should it occur. So I contacted CS to see what their policy was and they were vague in their response. I posted their response in a reply to a previous comment of this video.

Also, really like the idea of the dual zones in the VL60 since it's possible to completely shut down one side when it's not needed. I'm sure the power consumption is less when running only one side, but I'm wondering just how much less. Does anyone have any feedback on that? Thanks again.

I'm a novice when it comes to electricity and how to wire things, but I've been learning a lot from online sources. My question is this, can I hard wire the ICECO unit to my 12v fuse bus?

    • @houstonfirefox
      @houstonfirefox 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes. Like all things make sure you have a 15a fuse 'just in case' and perhaps an on/off switch but yes, you can hard wire it semi-permanent by cutting off the cigar plug (not recommended) or getting a 12v socket off of Amazon and hard wiring it instead.

If it was already cooled down, when you switched it to eco mode, you can't compare it to a smaller cooler, unless that one also started at cooled level (don't know if you are)

Good review, thank you. Question for you. In this review you indicated that the energy usage of this larger/dual unit was comparable to the smaller unit you tested before. I’m assuming that you are referring to the JP42… I wanted to ask you your thoughts of the power consumption based upon the fact that this unit and the JP42 were operated in completely different environments… this one was inside at room temperature, the jp40 was outside in temperatures up to 100°F.
Based upon this, I would expect the power draw the JP42 to be significantly less if operated and tested in the same environment as the dual unit. Do you agree? Were you referring to the JP42 as the other unit you tested? Thank you again for the review.

Would you consider doing one on the CFX3-75DZ Dometic, and or a Snomaster. It would be a great comparison, but I know there are several brands, so it might be crazy to do a comparison. Thank you for such a GREAT job. Love your videos. I watch as soon as they come on, we'll almost.

Debating between the ICECO VL45 and the JP40. I want it for 3 days camping trips, 2 people. I have a RAV4 adventure so the plan is to put it on the back. The JP40 fits perfect on top of the platform I have on the back but the VL45 would be too big. Is the size and performance difference between this too so big that it would be worth to rearrange my car to fit the VL45 vs the JP40?
    Thank you!

That’s not to bad, they list two different VL60 dual zone. Do you know the difference between the two models for 50 dollars. We could almost use that in our home. Very nice video. It can take 12/24V which is very nice.
