Industry character: Literally just eats an apple* Afzal: “Ah yes, the apple. A very common snack among the bigger investment banks. Especially throughout North America. Although it’s not uncommon to see 1st year analysts snacking on oranges as well. I had many apples during my time at Goldman.” All jokes Afzal 😂😂 keep up the great content
I'm no longer working in the financial sector, for personal reasons, but as a former Registered Investment Advisor and brief stint in Private Equity, when I first learned of this show, I was rather intrigued. However, after stumbling upon Afzal's analysis and commentary videos of this show, I was somehow more hooked on his videos than the show itself. His demeanor is very inviting, and his analysis and commentary is very educational and insightful. Plus, his reactions are humorous. I do hope he continues with his episode-by-episode-analysis of this show, and hopefully even financial films (fiction and non-fiction), such as 'Arbitrage,' 'The Big Short,' 'Margin Call,' etc. Keep up the great work, Afzal!!!
When my colleagues got fired at an IB the HR didn't let them back to their desk. The HR packed their stuff for them because they didn't want them to touch their computers
WHERES THE EPISODE 8 BREAK DOWN!!!! Lol , we are waiting for you bro. Great content . Keep up the great work, but give us that EPISODE 8 Extended break down !!!!! Cheers
The analysis of this show is equally as interesting as the show itself and i think that says volumes about our man here. Awesome videos man, love your channel.🙌🙌
honestly, thank you for making the series more PG-13. It's way more informative this way. And the overall clarity that you're giving on how things work in this industry is much appreciated as well!! : )
Awesome Video. I was wondering if you could make a video about the dark side of Goldman Sachs. Or just the shady things that go on in banking in general. Great Job Afzal!
The way you have described IB firms and the golden bullet makes it sound a terrible place to work. Constantly living in fear of losing your job. As a team or desk, surely working together can ensure you have more accounts. Most bad companies help you, not just fire you.
Love the commentary. I was made redundant was given a week to start packing horrible thing is that a few of my colleagues knew before me and started asking me where I was going that’s when I was like what do you mean then I was called into the office and told. I worked right in the city centre and had to leave it was so hard but it was the best thing that ever happened to me cos it was a horrible work place I didn’t have the guts to leave.
Where is your recap of Industry EP. 8 ? I just watched the show & I feel like your input is better. HBO needs to pay you & add your commentary to season 1. Thanks for your videos !!!!
Any over areas where I can possibly break into finances? simply not reasonable for me to ever aim for a banking career as undoubtedly I just will never have that sort of opportunity. Any suggestions ? HELP !!!
Question: is it possible to hop from retail / commercial / corporate banking to investment banking? If so, how would one go about doing it, is it hard to jump to IB?
Damn I didn't knew a lot of things I thought in US there won't be any office politics but after watching your video got to know all the policy which are followed in US, I can say Nordic based organizations are far better.
Hi Afzal, Highly appreciate your channel and value addition does it gives to financial students. Can you make the videos on credit rating agencies and how their overall business is different from investment banking with respect to pride, prestige and the exit opportunities after working in CRA. Regards, Ankish
How does joining a competitor work when your moving laterally between firms, you hear a lot about Analysts who skip A2A and move across to either PE or HF or sometimes moving for example from GS to JPM
Hi afzal, After i saw 12:35 the screen, i had to ask myself, if you could use this or other banner for the CFA vs FRM Videos or similar to provide us with visuell numbers ontop of your words Looking forward to this Improvement 😉
I’m loving this series! I was wondering if you could cover tips for telephone interviews because I applied for work experience at An investment bank and received a telephone interview but I’m not sure how to prepare. I’m in my last year of sixth form so my knowledge on banking is limited. Any advice?
Quite hard.to put a number.on it but JPM is there, MS has 3 offices there I believe, BNY Mellon, DB BO/MO etc, but pls don't choose where you'll apply to based on smth as arbitrary as "the city Vs canary wharf"
Hey Afzal love all your videos! I was able to establish a connection to an Audit Partner at Ernst and Young how can I approach him to ask him for a internship or an interview for an internship?
I am studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths A levels. Will i get in top Russel universities to study Economics ? Or are those completely wrong A levels?
@@ddgb1669 Before uni I had two internships in smaller firms doing financial services/corp. fin. related activities. Now that I'm a final year student I'll have 4 internships (& 0 spring weeks) completed before pursuing my masters later this year. My second year one was in equity research and the one I'll be doing over the summer, between my masters, is in credit research. My best tip would be to utilise any connections you have in order to get some tangible experience before applying to those 2nd year internships (i.e. parents/friends/professors network)

Amazing video, really enjoyed that! But the guy who got fired, I understand it’s difficult but he has been working at an IB for decades, I’m assuming his rich, is it so bad? Lol, feel like he is exaggerating a little
Not sure if you missed it, but it's revealed he's a functional heroin addict in a previous episode. So he needs the job more for daily "structure" to control his addiction than monetary reasons.
Love the information you give throughout the video, especially those who aren’t so technical in the banking world, that’s why I always come back 👊🏽 P.s pls check your insta dm
Great video but mate, not to be rude, I'd suggest leaving your course plugs at the beginning or the end. It's a little annoying to see a banner/ad in the middle of the video. Just a thought.

It’s crazy to think that the old chap who got fired changed his accent just to appear more serious. Classism needs to be addressed, I swear.
That really impressed me too, made me sad and uncomfortable
The way I saw it was that now that he had been let go by Pierpoint, he no longer needed to maintain the facade of an upper-class Englishmen
When my colleagues got fired at an IB the HR didn't let them back to their desk. The HR packed their stuff for them because they didn't want them to touch their computers
I'd be inclined not to have any stuff in the first place. Then you're free to just walk out.
