    ✅ About this video:
Comparing RV GPS options can be a hot topic. In this video we break down some of the benefits and disadvantages to using a Garmin RV890 versus RV Trip Wizard/RV Life GPS on your iPhone. The Garmin as well as RV Trip Wizard both have an app on the iPhone where you can access a lot of great features and even help with understanding various state laws. If you are towing an RV, I encourage you to do your own research to determine whether or not you need a dedicated RV GPS. This GPS review/ GPS comparison is based on our own experiences and is of our own opinions. We are not experts; however, we want to provide you with as much as information as we can. If you are thinking about buying an RV GPS, consider watching this video. Thank you and until the next STRANGE adventure, keep making your own!

So many questions left unanswered. Which solution provides the best routing? Has Garmin led you into tight spots which you suggest RV Life did? How does the Garmin do for finding fuel stops? What is the user experience like when the Garmin loses GPS signal? Why Garmin vs other dedicated GPS map solutions? etc.

  • @armandoepifani5394

So much misinformation. The phone absolutely does have gps, and does not rely upon triangulation.

We bought the same one - upgraded from the Garmin 480. Love the bigger screen and new features. RV Trip Wizard is still used by my wife on her ipad as we travel in our rig as a second/third opinion. I highly recommend it as well! Safe Travels.

I believe when not in range of cell towers, your phone super-impose on top of offline maps your position based on its onboard GPS chip. If sky is present your position will be indicated!

  • @mikem4432

some phones have a GPS chipset like the android google Pixel

Great video. But I think there is incorrect information. You said that the smartphone's location system uses triangulation through communication antennas. I believe that smartphones like iPhone use GPS location. On the website, the specifications say: "Integrated GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS and BeiDou", these are the SATELLITE location systems that exist. In other words, they are not triangulation systems that use communication towers to pinpoint location. Please correct me if I'm deeply wrong.

What a great video topic! One of the things we prioritized when we hit the road four years ago was having a dedicated satellite GPS specific for the RV. We, too, have a Garman and absolutely love it. It has a lot of beneficial features.

We bought the 890 earlier this year. Only have used it a few times, but we really like it. I would definitely purchase it again.

I’ve heard TomTom is better… like better screen performance being less janky interface than Garmin’s. Honestly, Garmin needs to reinvent themselves because with technology being what it is the screen and processor technology they’re using is so outdated. Like you could buy a brand new cheap smartphone either android or IPhone and download all the map data and use it in offline mode and it would be more compact with a quicker snappier interface. I’m pretty sure when you put iPhone in airplane mode it uses satellite services just like a Garmin would but with faster processing power and better voice recognition software. Garmin’s voice recognition is just downright terrible and they want well over $200 for some of these units?!

It would be nice if TV manufacturers would supply the software that Garmin uses and use with the factory navigation

Thank you for making this. I knew within 10 seconds of hearing your voice that you were from the Tidewater area then I saw Gloucester on the GPS lol. Love it, thanks again!

We use both of those as well. You identified a few features that I haven’t used yet and didn’t know about. We have the same RV as well. For us, the GPS has had a few roads that it took us down that didn’t have the proper clearance and has taken us down a few incorrect roads. It’s harrowing to backup that beast in the middle of the night on a narrow dead end road.

Thanks for the review! We are planning to purchase a Garmin GPS and this review is very helpful! Thanks for sharing! Safe travels! Zoe and Ramón. Can you share the mounting piece for the GPS?

Great video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. If I purchase this particular gps, what is the best RV back up camera to pair with it?

  • @SWBCrawler

Thanks for the video! Question, I bumper-pull at 18 foot flat bed trailer with my Jeep on it. Do you have any opinion on whether this gps would be worth it for me? Or is this just not a big enough load for this sort of gps to be necessary? Thanks!
