- The Pre 1970 Autorodeo at Nieuwleusen (Netherlands) in 2018 was a once in a lifetime experience! 155 historic pre 1970 cars were smashed to pieces by racers from the same little village called Nieuwleusen.
Amazing cars, amazing paintwork and great action all day long. This is a combination of Banger Racing and Demolition Derby. No rodding around or sandbagging. These racers just want to smash their old tin to bits!
Here's a small list of rare cars that were used for the Autorodeo: Citroën AC4 (1928), Bentley MKIV (1948), Peugeot 203 Familiale (1949), Mercury Montclair (1957), Jaguar MK2 (1959), Chrysler Newport limo (1962), Ford Fairline (1964), Opel GT (1969), Rolls Royce Silver Shadow (1967), Chrysler Imperial (1967), Ford Mustang (1966), Citroën DS Currus (1969), Daimler DS420 Limo (1969) and many more!
Wreckfest, BeamNG and the Next Car Game are pretty much based on events like this Autorodeo. If you like to play those games make sure to subscribe to my channel as this is the real life experience!

Mustang, 48 Bentley, Opel GT, Opel Manta. I'm literally in tears watching these get destroyed
It's the only way to get rid of these old cars.
It was said that the Mustang, for example, had been a crispy critter, meaning it was a car fire and burned up badly.
Why do we wanna get rid of the old cars get rid of the new ones old is cool new is junk
@@joes_tractor_stuff are you involved in vehicle restoration at all ? I have been . See the bus in my avatar , thats a CIE bodied PDR 3 Leyland Atlantean that ran in Ireland . I helped a friend restore old buses he has 4 preserved buses now. He came across one of these buses in reasonably good nick a few years ago . When CIE/Dublin Bus disposed of the Atlanteans they cut the chassis to prevent the buses being sold on . This meant to get the bus running the chassis would have had to be welded back together . His insurance company said it would be classed as a cut and shut and would be unfit to run on the road . My friend had to withdraw his interest . My point in telling you this is to say not everything old can be restored . At least these cars had a final run and didn't rot away in a scrapyard
@@PieterHalveLiter cant wait to see tesla and renault zoes doin some banger races :-)))
Why would anyone destroy those classic cars?
Because these specific examples are beyond roadable repair or restoration and were parts cars or cars out of a junkyard. They're patched and painted to look nice, but they are unrestorable junkers.
Rotten cars
Fun?
@@adamtereska8734 nah not really
Because it needed to be done!
Running this in a trabant seems borderline suicidal. They're literally made of rust and cotton.
And plastic with some rust
Its actually wool and resin over a steel frame. Their incredibly strong and well designed.
I'd guess some of those "rusty pins holding a rusty body on a rusty ladder frame" pre-war designs were more suicidal than the - for their era and size - surprisingly sturdy trabants.
cardboard actually
Not gonna lie, I just come here for the tears 😭 😭😭. It’s obvious that these cars were never going to see the road again so can’t see the problem with giving them one final send off and what a great job these drivers and their mechanics have done.
Man if you put enough work in to the car then everything is possible if you aint an lazy ass
All the untalented people who have believed this over the years is why we have so few today.
Some of those were in better condition than the restoration projects we've completed.
@@wantahertzdonut So why did no one buy them and restore them? Probably I won't tell you much news anyways.
It does not only need tears for them. You also need for an rescue attempt a lot of passion for this particular model. Hard to find for some stuff like a 50es Wolseley estate or so.
Then there is money, which for a resale you will never see again, not even for stuff like a Mustang. There are better ones out there which need less effort. And in the end restored is restored. Considering you did it to the same level, buyers won't care if you bought a bad one for 5000 € and put effort for 22000 € in or if you bought a wreck for 500 € but had to put 35000 € in. Top condition freshly restored will bring you 30000 € (don't know actual prices for Mustangs, take these figures as examples). Difference is just, that one guy earned 2000 and the other one dumped 5000 €.
And if you look at a VW Beetle, Austin A40, Simca Aronde or other people's cars, that calculation only tilts for worse.
And even if you decide positive on all these points, you still need to get the parts. And I have seen some especially different candidates there. Moskvich will probably mean you have to find spare parts for a model that was already suffering from spares supplies in socialist economy of scarcity and probably 5 other, previously stripped cars held this one running until today. Their part supply is finite.
Estate specific parts for 60es models? Have fun. They were built to low amounts, used as craftsmen vehicles and dumped wenn worn. Their low amounts don't justify reproductions, their low number does not supply used parts.
And 50es and 60es models were usually built only one year in the US. Some like the Ford P7a or Opel Rekord B in Europe as well because they failed to meet customer taste and needed a hasty facelift. These are critical cars for spare part supply anyways, combined with the total loss of the Ford factory spare part stock due to a fire in 1977 I'd call the P7a even supercritical.
I know you can rescue any car - but the question always remains, if it is worth it. And we are in a free world. Everyone can buy any car to do with it (within law, but banger racing is legal) whatever he likes. And probably there is a reason that people took these cars banger racing. Usually they don't pay much for them, so somehow they must have been neglected by enthusiasts as restoration objects or even part donors for so long that they ended rock bottom priced and attractive for this buyer group.
Fun for the people so sad to loose the cars of history!
Horrific waste these guys are not only heartless they have no souls.

Well, than spend your money on saving them.
Because obviously nobody does!
Most of them literally had parts breaking off of them on the first hit lol. These cars were bondo and super glue holding together the original rust that was left. At least they had some fun with them before they went to the crusher
No
For all classic car nuts just be wary that there are better examples out there of all of these cars and as some people didn’t think notice that the patchwork was falling off while it was being smashed and that when they get bent you can see the amount of rust there
Great show y’all. Camera work was phenomenal. No idea how those guys can run some of those cars in multiple heats after getting rocked.
Thanks a lot! We try to improve every meeting we go to :). The guys have all kinds of stuff to pull out the cars again like HIAB's or stuff firemen are using to get you out of a car after an accident.
Awesome video. Just opened a beer and enjoyed watching these guys crashing and destroying their oldies. Never saw an Opel GT in a destruction derby - great to watch.

I want an opal manta for a spedeworth historic stockcar one day.Guess il have to come to the netherlands to buy one.Brain sayers raced one back in the 80's in stockcars.WOW
Used to watch that a lot at Wimbledon in the early 80's especially Brian Sayers in his Blue and red Manta and blue and red Vauxhall Victor FD. Tough cookies
@@swordfish1986 Richtig.
Also, wirklich echte deutsche Gründlichkeit.

I can't believe using citroen ambulance for banger race. That thing are extremely rare and absolute worth restoration
@takoyaki-gq1qj it was up for sale and in such a bad state that none of the classic car saving guys wanted to buy it. So yeah this is what happens with them if nobody wants to put money in
So can they only hit using the front ends or just driver's choice?
Drivers choice
So I reckon no v8s are aloud in banger racing? Because all I hear are 4 bangers under every hood of the cars in pretty much every banger racing video out their.
Depends on the class you are racing in what engines are allowed. With pre races you normally have to use age related engines etc. But in the unlimited class you can use any engine you want as long as it is without turbos etc.
The imperial was definitely running a V8 probably it's original engine.
Back in 80's I used to go to our local banger track every fortnight and it was awesome. Wasn't to keen on the small stock car races but the bangers were awesome especially the DD as the final event.
must have been fun
@@Black_Metal it was awesome 😊

Seeing the 66' stang getting destroyed made me wanna cry :(
It was burned out so smashing the body was the best thing to do
Car was burnt out, nothing to rescue there
No one should be under any impression that anything of value entered this race. Racers will strip anything of value, the cars themselves are terminal rust cases and almost always beyond economical repair. Otherwise theyd sell them on
Those cars are junk, all rusted up and don't worth restoring like the burned mustang, most lack interesting easy selling parts, and all they have to look good is some cheap paint.

I thought one of Banger racers defensive for what they do is that they strip all good usable parts to help other cars ? Looks like theres plenty of good straight panels and bumpers and grills on these.
Yeah most are put in storage or have been swapped. Panels maybe look straight but under the fancy paint youll find a lot of welding.
@@AutorodeoNederland But the grills etc look decent. That 68 Imperial...try and find one of those grills in europe.
@@v8cool231 some of the grills etc are painted as well. Of course some of the stuff is probably good for a road car but some were worked on for more than a half year before they were ready for this event.
All the trim was still in place on that ‘59 Mercury.
That 'ol #164 could hang with those other cars! I'm impressed!
Yeah the win was fully deserved - he dished out some crazy damage.
I reckon a lot of these cars weren't beyond saving. It basically means nothing is sacred.
Most of them were far beyond saving. Its just the paint why they look so good

The modern SUVs and cheap japanese/corean/chinese cars deserve this...
Was it really fare to run the 59 Mercury and Imperial. That thing was a sledgehammer. Also I'm glad the 53 opal got taken out before it really got destroyed. As a grand finale they should have had all the left over little British cars take on the imperial. It would be fun just to watch that beast eat!
No, it wasn’t fare, but it wasn’t fair either.
Never seen Peugeot 203 before and now I suppose they asked FSO in Poland to change name of Warszawa 203 (improved pobeda M20 licensee) not only due to P's model-numbering but these cars are are quite similar in appearance too, could confuse :) I've seen Pobeda in banging once, in the UK, cars presented here were not available in Poland so they are extremely rare.
I've never understood why people enjoy this kind of mindless destruction, weather it's involving modern or old machines like this.
In this case though I honestly believe most of that enjoyment comes from the reactions they get from classic car lovers. As you've admitted in replies to other comments.
Why????!!!
Einfach Hirnlos 😭
I don't know why there are different classes, because they all look the same to me. I bet the classic car fraternity are crying into their real ale watching this carnage!
A 1800kg Chrysler Imperial would not be fair against a 800kg Trabant....it would be pure suicide!
Maybe get a pair of new glasses then? If you can't even tell the difference between a wagon and a coupe, it'd be about time. Otherwise going by your profile picture, you're probably a caveman and lack the sophistication needed to appreciate classic car designs.

An Anglia Torino in the first race 😮
