- Getting HDMI to work on a old analog Vintage TV with only an RF connector. Works with Apple TV, Roku, etc.
1966 RCA CTC-16XL Vintage Color Television.
What you'll need if you're looking to do the same,
HDMI to RCA/AV adapter
RCA/AV adapter to RF modulator
or
HDMI to RF modulator
Ok. Using Alexa to turn on a vintage tv is next level cool.

Back in the day when they called them RCA Victor. The peak of my servicing career. We were an authorized dealer for RCA, Zenith, Motorola/Quasar, Sony, Pioneer and Fisher
I've always found it so weird how black just looks black when you look at the screen. You can see that the screen is not very dark but when images are on screen it looks black. The picture looks great!
That's really great optimization. But I am amazed by the displayed colors. Even viewed through the youtube compression. I know these monitors are built to last. And the RCAs have really good colours.
Yeah I am always blown away by the picture quality and the colors this set produces. And in this video the convergence is out as well as the vertical. I really need to go though and re setup and alignment. But what really really is amazing is this TV does it all with out any IC’s or chips. It’s done all basically by just vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and coils! Crazy it can look so good.
Like Spock and Data did when they were individually sent back in time.@@MangieRaccoonsTech
You actually turned on my TV. I also have my Alexa configured to do that! LOL
I watched this video on the flat screen in the living room and it did the same thing. Had me wondering if it would do the same for anyone else lol
How to configure Alexa to turn tv on?
Using an alexa controled outlet plug adapter that the tv is plugged into.
Next-level laziness.
@robertshade8631 I'm using the Logitech Harmony hub to do it. Let's you replace your remote control with an app on your phone.
im amazed this hasnt blown up yet. im sure it will eventually so i guess im here before that :)
Yeah! Indeed and I like it being small and getting to talk yall. I imagine it would be hard to do that if it blew up and too popular
You could watch a cat video on the cat-hode ray tube.
Ok how to heck did you made that
This is cool 😎 new friend here it just showed up in my screen 📺
Awesome! :D
So cool! Thanks for sharing !!
You bet!
Is radiation a concern? I heard 60s color had not as much lead for it.
That is a good question that many don't know about. Usually youre ok watching from the couch. One of the tubes that produced a lot of has a newer replacement that produces a lot less. You know if you got the older radiation king if the tube glows green XD
I love those old TV's so much! I think the ones today are awful!
Yeah there is something about these old sets I love as well
Same flatscreens are crapscreens.
Is that a circular antenna on your TV? I like it (or maybe it's my age showing). I'd like to get one for my 30+ year old RCA ColorTrak (which still works great) now that I've decided to ditch cable. Any recommendations or suggestions? Thanks
Yeah it is! I really like it too. I found it at an antique mall in Ohio
Oh recommend a good outdoor TV antenna and decent old zenith converter box
@@MangieRaccoonsTech Thanks! Now I know where to start 🤓
i remember them old T.V.'s
That set has a gorgeous picture. But get the vertical linearity fixed up. The egg shaped steering wheel just looks wrong.
Lol I know right! Really makes them foreheads extended too. XD it’s been a few years since I’ve touched anything. The convergence is getting really poor as well. I’ve been thinking about doing a complete setup on it again.
well well, youtube on a roundie! lol l i bet there exists an adapter that would go hdmi to rf eliminating the need for 2 adapters
Crazy huh! :D I’ve been enjoying it the last few days too. It’s been working great! Indeed so I did see that there is an HDMI to RF adapter on Amazon.
why is it circle?
Way back then picture tubes were made round. It was around this time though they started figuring out and being able to make them more square.
Oh man, groovy ..
Cool ❤😊😊
Nice!!
oh snap hes got dat simpsons TV
Ok
Woo
I'm sure when that TV first came out The manufacturer/first owner had no idea the TV would ever be used in such a way. Turning it on with a voice command, that would be pure science fiction back then.
I'm pretty happy with the random ancient tv in the basement that came with my house, but damn that thing is a beaut.
I have a 70's TV it doesn't work it's water damaged I found it in a like lake cannoe someone through it in i went back the next day it was washed up on the side I'm surprised its not like water worked cause it's real wood it was hard to get tho I still got it it of course didn't work so I use it as a tv stand I check if it works once every week or so
@@Econolodge. Punctuation exists, for a reason.
You should watch star trek the original series on this
❤❤
dope!
I just got a free mountgumrywards color tv it is so cool with the knobs looks like a freaken microwave lol reminds me of the simpsons so nostalgic put some 90s saturday morning cartoons on that
We boutta watch h1t1’s videos on here💀
Now I'm super curious what would happen if you plugged a ps4 or similar into an old tv like this
Yeah! I was thinking the same thing too XD I think I’m going to try that.
Please do!
@@MangieRaccoonsTechwhat connections on back of your tv?Is it only antenna or coaxial connected?
@robertshade8631 only antenna, have adapter for coax
@@MangieRaccoonsTech ok thought you had hdmi to coaxial converter.I’m trying to hookup some old tv to Tablo whole house setup.Tablo does not tell you that you need hdmi to rca or coaxial converter plus a rf modulator.
Sweet looking doggy! I cant wait to do this to my 80's tv! I'm waiting for my modulator to come in the mail. It's gonna be so cool watching Stranger Things and my favortite 70s and 80s shows and movies on it! Also 80s commercials. I also have an adorable German Shepherd and Lab Mix to watch with me :)
Yeah that will be awesome! Gotta let me know when you get it going :D
She is a sweetheart! shepherd border collie mix
I sure will! I might even upload a video. Please pet your pup for me! :)@@MangieRaccoonsTech
Sure will! And if you do upload let me know, I'd love to see it!
Update: I got my modulator in the mail today but no luck! Wonder what I’m doing wrong
Hmmm, welp first, do you still have static or any kind of blank screen
Cool video dude I have a 1964 RCA tube tv hookt up on my PS4 that is very cool
Awesome! What version/chassis do you have? I really love these older RCA’s. I also really love this era of Zenith TV’s as well. XD
@@MangieRaccoonsTech I'm not sure because it doesn't have the label on it anymore and I like the zenith 300 with the 2speakers on the front
Oh yeah they are beautiful sets huh!
@@MangieRaccoonsTech yeah I am on a hont for one but no luck yet
Wish ya luck! Don’t give up, you’ll find one.
that's awesome man but I may have got you beaten I still have my 1980's c band satellite dish and have found a way to make it work on my smart tv
This just appeared in my recommended list and glad it did!
Play PS5 Avatar on it.
I'm gonna guess that you are an Aquarius.
Interesting guess
Play a ps5 game or whatever gaming console you got there in that old piece of cream.
My parents had one
That’s really cool!
What did you do to make it finally work I just finished my set up and there's still static 😮💨
if you are getting static, check to make sure you are on the same channel as the modulator output. If you have done that, check with another TV to see if its a problem with your modulator or your television.
🐶 Bow wow!
pal system?
NTSC
@@MangieRaccoonsTech We have a PAL standard in Russia and throughout Europe for a long time.
@@MangieRaccoonsTech Asian countries except Japan also use the PAL color system
That's cool, I've been wanting a PAL tv set for a while. Are yall still using PAL? Over here we switched to ATSC
@@MangieRaccoonsTech Naturally PAL, I have a TV set in my room at the very main CRT.
I’ve used the rf modulator on my black and white old tv as instructed, sound came out really clear however the image didnt come out, it was only the flickr.
If anyone knows the solution, i’d really appreciate it
Check one channel up and down with fine tuning and see if it's as simple as rf being off a bit. Otherwise there could be a lot of thing that could be the problem
@@MangieRaccoonsTech thank you for the response, too bad the fine tuning with the channel and its up & down channels didn’t work. I felt really close to succeeding hooking it up as the sound came out really clear, but found nd article saying that if the sound working fine but picture doesn’t, they said need to change other type of modulator
You're welcome! There is the us NTSC vs PAL. Not sure what region your tv set and modulator is made for. Other wise besides that, older tvs and even 80s and 90s tv sets are getting old enough now that capacitors are failing and causing weird problems like no picture or Strang weird picture etc. That's if the crt just isn't really tired. You should see static/snowy picture when there is no signal hooked to the tv.
Here is a link to an old black and white TV from the 50s, skip to the very end of the video, I cut the dtv to rf modulator and you can see the static snowy picture. th-cam.com/video/QOTX32Qksc8/w-d-xo.html
@mangieraccoonstech thank you very much, will check it out surely
By any chance do you have an old Sony camcorder?
Sadly I don’t
thas funny I turned one of these into a real cat bed but its more from the 80s the tv that looks like a microwave where u punch in the channel I gutted it so that the plastic shell was all that was left and put it on legs
Eh, I do this every day, nothing impressive to me
Awesome! XD I use mine daily as well
@@MangieRaccoonsTech but I love the tv tho
Yeah I really like this old set too
@@MangieRaccoonsTech my guess is 1950s to 1960
Yap, 1966 CTC16XL :D
