I thought the same thing once I saw it in action. I was also thinking what if the two tops had a gear mesh underneath so that it opened and closed together.
Id be a bit careful though as the magnets would be facing outwards while in breakfast mode. You could end up accidentally wiping a card or destroying a phone in your pocket by leaning on it wrong.

Haha! For real! just so much easier than taking the big one from its table. And me too, just strips some of that yellow out. Plus whitewash really allows me to lean into my worst tendency of quick sloppy finishing without the consequence of a sloppy finish haha!
Soon to start remodeling a new house. Ive been having trouble deciding on something like island counter or table in my kitchen this is essentially what Im gonna do. Thank you fir the inspiration. I think mine i will go with a thin long extendable table with leaflet. So it can be either and moved as well if needed.
Finally, someone made a rollout table! You and Jackman are the only two who’ve made this style of table. I first saw the concept on tiny house nation where an outdoor bar top hid a swivel out table directly underneath but like all diy shows they didn’t show a damn thing 🤦🏻♀️ but you made it simple good job
Thanks so much! Totally get this being a tiny house thing too - our living space isn’t huge and this makes it so much easier to have a proper place to have dinner! Haha
Thanks, Alan! So nice to have some where to sit down and eat or play a board game. And I’m looking forward to that day too - though it’s many projects and Renos away haha ...but on the plus side, plenty of time to decide if I want to take on building the cabinets myself!
It's been freezing here. I can't imagine what the temperature in your shop was. Props to you for pushing through it and finishing another project. Nicely done!
I was on the road and missed this when it came out. Saw your instagram post so came over to watch it. This is an innovative and very useful project. Great idea and implementation. Not exotic wood....but one of my favorites of your projects so far. Looking forward to the stools.
I think you should add a latch on both ends of the table, so when you make it a dining table, you can clamp the individual parts together Also it looks fantastic. I wish I had the space and materials to get into woodworking
Thanks! Someone also suggested embedding rare earth magnets which I thought was a cool way to approach that. For what it’s worth, I started in 7x12’ storage room with just a few small contractor tools - everything has to start somewhere :)
Thanks! Nope! But I I’ll say, we’re a house of adults who mostly host other adults - so if you have kids, probably good to have a few rare earth magnets or a latch to keep it together!
You should embed some rare earth magnets in the ends that touch when opened into a table, it will make it much more stable feeling.
That is a clever idea! I think I just might!

Now that would be cool.

That's some creative carpentry. 👍
Thanks, Nick!
that trim router is really earning it's keep! I like the whitewash on the pine. I'm going to steal that idea in the future

@@HonestWorkDesigns I bet your husband loves that you can do stuff.
That’s a great idea! Well designed and nicely executed - as we’ve come to expect. I look forward to seeing you renovate your kitchen.

Thanks, Chris! I know, right? half the reason for the steam bending in the upcoming edit was just to keep my hands warm 😂
Cool idea
Thanks, Jack!

Aw thanks so much, Ron! Working on that edit now!

So cool, thanks for sharing, stay safe, Jules, Droitwich, England
Thanks, Jules! ...Finally have somewhere to eat dinner haha!
How do you know where to put the pivot and how much to curve the edges
I love this idea and can't wait to try this in my house. Do you have any problems keeping the two peices together when in table mode?

@@HonestWorkDesigns that's fair. I have a couple rambunctious dogs so I might do that just to be safe
genius
Hi! What a great piece of work! I'm going to DIY this product now, can you send me the drawing?

I don't understand why people go to such great lengths to build something, only to finish it up with a friggin' nail gun.
