I'm glad I'm going with 2.5" for my custom setup. Now that I've heard both side by side, your 2.5" setup sounds very similar to how my coupe sounded with stock exhaust, but with basically the same resonators you have in the rear where my muffler was, just like you have. I'm really excited to see what my sedan sounds like with both resonators and mufflers replaced with the FlowFX resonators/mufflers.
Awesome review. Helped with my decision of going with a 2.25". For a daily driver, torque is vital in general (especially during winter) and you'll get the increase in HP anyways. Sound wise, the 2.5" sounds beefier but I don't drive a muscle car and would personally feel like a poser giving off that kind of sound. I am a sucker for blow backs and flames though, so the 2.25" manages that pretty well (:
That 2.25 sounds very refined and comfortable sounding with slight aggression but that 2.5 sounds like a small v8 and personally I think this car deserves it, really makes bmw sound like it needs a lesson
The 2.25 in my opinion is better than the 2.5. The 2.5 has a little too much resonance making the frequencies clash. The 2.25 is more crisp and audible as opposed to jumbled together. If 2.35 was an option available, I feel like that would hit the sweet spot for me.
Getting a 2.5" Borla Pro XS setup Monday! I might opt for the quieter tone resonators but absolutely love the deep tone. I have a Z1 ecutek full tune with intakes and HFCs
I have a 3 inch isr catback single exit exhaust and it’s sounds very deep but I’m liking the 2.25 inch sound a lot it’s hard to choose becuz they both sound good
Oops, thought i had a 2.25. Lol i did 2.5, BUT different setups produce different results! That x flow i added in the middle really held up the high tone in the higher gears, didnt muffle out like the 2.5 did in yours.
The sound isn’t picked up very well for the dyno pull clip-it’s definitely not muffled out at higher rpm when in person. The note must not have been picked up by the mic very well. I will say that when the exhaust was new-like in the video, it was a bit toned down. Now however, after break in, the car is substantially more rowdy!
@@SpeedCultureStudios did you feel the TQ lost initially? Do you regret getting a 2.5" exhaust? The increased HP numbers are great, but being a DD, do you still feel the added HP was worth the lost TQ?
Cars N' Boba it’s impossible to feel 6-8 pounds of lost torque, especially when the tires spin so easily. Would it make a difference in a dig race if I had grip? Hard to say. For only gaining 1 hp though, losing any torque doesn’t make sense. But I’m happy with how it sounds so I don’t regret the change. I wanted the get the car sounding the way I wanted but also wanted to prove the point that going to a 2.5” exhaust is not always the best move. I think I made that clear-gained 1 hp and lost 8 lbs torque.
@@SpeedCultureStudios thanks for sharing that. Have you read this article about exhaust diameter on tq and hp on the VQ? motordyneengineering.com/exhaust-backpressure-and-scavenging/ I'm just trying to figure out how their results differ from yours. They suggest that the lost tq is due to widening piping before the Y pipe, while wider piping at the y pipe and beyond usually did not result in reduced tq. So trying to pin point if the wider diameter pipe found on hfc and tp is the cause? I don't deny your results, but trying to understand what caused the lost tq, so I can appropriately plan my exhaust layout.
Cars N' Boba Yes I have looked at it. Lost torque/power can be the result of a number of things in an exhaust system design. It can come down to a certain bend or even misaligned pipe. In my case, test pipes did not change so the loss in torque can be attributed to the larger diameter catback. There are other articles out there from magnaflow and others that discuss exhaust flow and diameter and how it relates to power and torque. It’s pretty common knowledge at this point that a larger diameter (to a point) can get you bigger hp numbers, but you eventually sacrifice torque. However, I do. Want to test 2.25” test pipes because I do believe I would gain that torque back with them. Fast intentions has 2.25” test pipes available but they are almost $400 if I remember right and I just can’t justify that.
The description of the video says 2.25 is better for torque and gains I agree 😄 I tried a greddy evo gt dual with 3' piping. I noticed the loss of torque and the gain in noise inmediatelly
Hey man like your channel and a couple others for Q50 chat so just commenting. Anyways, thought I'd mention that for some or many owners that don't know that playing around with one's exhaust can play a big part in detuning one's car. A lot of the time people are negatively affecting their car's low end and mid range power output by going to larger diameter exhaust then what the engineers likely placed on the car. What's really important in a exhaust design is how well it aids in scavenging the cylinders and sometimes the thought of freeing up back pressure created by the stock exhausts which was a part of the equation the auto designers use to make the engine perform best for drivability can be adverse. I'll never forget the time i had my 88" Mustang 5.0 in high school. I had lots of friends and some not friends where we always raced our cars and talked shit afterwards if not before. My car was one of the fastest until i added a ford performance off-road H-pipe and black original Flow-Master mufflers. Killed my low end and mid range come to find out but the sound was pure intoxicating. Before the exhaust mods i could pull this guys 5.7 88-90 Vett but the next day after he would drive off from me and his vet was kept stock and another acquaintance had the 5.7 IROC. That's just one scenario and they are all not the same but that experience really opened my eyes. Louder doesnt usually make a car faster but can sure sound like it does. One time, a smarter car professional told me a equation when it comes to exhaust size for optimum performance per engine size and hp output/goals. I can't recall it now but certain smaller displacement motors like 6 cyl and 4 cyl motors don't need or benefit from larger diameter pipes unless really getting into the high 500-600hp and then 800-1000hp. For me, i will always be a function guy over visual appeal and sound. A simple, quick video i stumbled upon discussing exhaust design: th-cam.com/video/Dd43rwLHEW4/w-d-xo.html
You must not have watched one of my older videos discussing this same thing! I got a lot of heat for it actually because a lot of a guys could not accept that a 2.25” exhaust on these cars would make more torque than a 2.5. I actually used the video you linked as a reference. The best systems have a perfect mix of flow and velocity. A big exhaust will flow very well, but the velocity will be crap. A small diameter exhaust will have super high velocity, but too much flow restriction is no good either. Scavenging is very important, but there was an excellent study done in a 370z that showed there is little to no scavenging impact after the cats/test pipes. He actually proved that a 2.25” test pipe will heals the best results, which is interesting because there are very few 2.25” options available. You may have seen that I proved my own argument making 333/284 with a 2.25” exhaust then making 333/276 switching to a 2.5”. I’ve said since the beginning that the 2.25 is the best option for this engine if staying NA and 2.5 is the absolute biggest I’d go. People have argued and laughed at me, but it is absolutely true. You certainly need a tune when switching up the exhaust system. You’ve probably heard some say they notice a loss in torque with just a muffler delete. I’ve made the point on numerous occasions that these cars are pretty dialed from the factory so making any little change could have a bigger impact than you’d expect.
@@SpeedCultureStudios I've had a few short discussions with you before and you have a good/better understandind and realstic reasoning then many. My ramblings are mostly not directed to you but rather then just raising discussion/awareness about something that may not cross others minds. There's a lot of design, super expensive test equipent, science and engineering needed that goes into properly designing the different systems in vehicles where an exhaust system is one of those. The Butt dyno can really lead people astray even thought we so want it to be real. At 1,000 to 1,500 for exhausts they are the items i try to not think about-get wrapped up in because of the cost and then 2-$300 install because what common person has the means like a lift and sometimes a welder. I'll never forget that dissappointment in the late 80's after buying the $800 Ford Motorsports off-road cattless h-pipe and seeing that i lost power for my application. It was huge as it was one piece back then where i had to go pick it up in a car. I was for sure that i was going to gap the others even easier because that combo on the 5.0 sounded so magical. No internet back then so i took a undereducated gamble and made a bad choice as far as a perfirmance gain. Better investment 30 years ago would have been to intall 3:55 -3:73 gear mod for cheaper or save some more cash and get Trickflow aluminum head package with roller rockers or a B-303 cam:)
Cleansed by the Blood we are in the same page man! Sounds like we have a similar history with cars as well-big mustang guy here! Really appreciate your input and sharing your experience. That’s what this is all about!
@SpeedCultureStudios This helps a lot more then I thought. I I own a 2015 lifted Scion xB with a 23” length and a inlets are 2.5” cherry bomb glasspack. With a 2.25” TRD sport muffler. It had the perfect sound for daily. Now I get to the point we’re I want a full custom single side exhaust. From UEL header, to 2.5” down pipe with magnaflow high flow cat that’s 2.5”, a 2.5” vibrant ultra quiet resonator, and the rest is 2.5” exhaust pipe. It’s gonna sound deeper and more aggressive sound. Hopefully this will be better and maybe loud in more mature way for daily. 🙌🏼
I been debating all day which I should buy and would sound better for my 3.0t. Then this vid pop up. I’ll have to go with the 2.5” just because it sounds more aggressive to me. Can’t wait until I get my muffler and resonator delete then throw on the 2.5” pipes
Nothing wrong with 2.25 except that it supports less power. Roughly 415hp at the crank compared to 513hp for dual 2.5s. Something else you could consider is running dual 2.5s into a single 3.5 for the entire mid pipe, which will mathematically support the same power, then splitting it back to dual 2.5s for the axle-back. That'll smooth out the tone even better than double or triple X-pipes. Plus you could do some Borla type shit and split the single 3.5 into triple 2" or quad 1.75" (both being flow equivalent) to get different resonances in the mid-pipe. You could even simultanously copy both Borla and Fluid Motorunion if you include megaphones on your 2.5" duals before the merge into single. Just make sure you have at least 1ft of blended 3.5" single section both before and after this triple or quad pipe resonator part so you can adequately transfer to and from the 2.5" duals for your downpipes and axle-back.
How much power it can support doesn’t really matter in this case when the vq37 won’t even get close to approaching 513 crank without serious upgrades. What we do know is that a 2.5” dual will allow the vq to make slightly more power (single digits) at the top end of the rpm than a 2.25” BUT torque will be down. A 3.5” single mid pipe would be interesting to try, but the problem is the space available because you would still need to deal with the rasp created by the VQ, which is why the borla pro xs was used for the setup - just a large resonated x pipe - or the magnaflow alternative, which has had much better quality than the borla lately.
@@SpeedCultureStudios Oh, I thought this was a turbocharged car because Q50, my bad. In that case, I'd definitely recommend the dual 2.25 into a single 3.25" and you can probably stuff a 4" inlet 4" outlet straight through muffler in the middle there to smooth the tone and give it that howl like the Roadkill Muscle Truck. From everything I've heard, single-section mid pipes sound great on VQs. I stand by the idea of copying Borla's polyphonic thing that I described for the single section and/or putting megaphones on the duals before the single section.
I'm actually in debate now for this too. I have an axleback on my Q40 stock piping. I do plan to tune it after I get a CAI. In terms of performance, do you think it's worth going custom CB w/ 2.5" piping or leaving it stock exhaust w/ axleback. I would keep the axleback and stock resonators and just change the piping to 2.5"
It all depends on what you want or what you’re going for. Tuning with just catback doesn’t make sense really. It’s expensive and the cats at the bottleneck so you won’t get much performance gain from just a catback
I think the only way to really test this accurately is to use a identical exhaust set up like the 2.25in Fast intentions vs the 2.5in with same test pipes/cats. Theres so many variables here that i doubt the piping size is the dominating factor in the difference in sound. Im running isr headers with q300 which is 60mm. Im really considering switching to fast intentions 2.5in set up because the ISR's are 2.5in. ISR lth's with Invidia q300 does sound very nice though if you dont want it to loud, its very tasteful sounding. There is zero rasp or drone but i feel like the location of the x pipe and the mismatch piping diameter is hurting me a little bit on power.
Right--I mentioned this for that very reason. The funny thing is that the tone between the two is very similar. I was surprised to see so many people say they could hear a difference. I would bet that if I played clips back to back without labels that no one could guess which was which. In person, the 2.25 setup had a slightly higher pitch--but only very slightly--which seems pretty obvious. Even with the exact same components, I think it's a reasonable expectation that the result would be the same--generally the larger the diameter the lower the tone.
@@SpeedCultureStudios I agree, most probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference, including myself. Atleast through the video, in person i think i could. I actually got to here mine yesterday with the cat back disconnected for just a second with just the ISR long tube headers and it sounded super aggressive and deep. I was really surprised how good it sounded actually and it was shaking the ground it was so loud. Shop had it disconnected to put on my Z1 poly dif bushings and Z1 dif cover but I didn't realize they needed the special tool to remove it. Otherwise they have to drop the subframe to press it out which doubles the labor cost. Cheaper to buy the tool. Funny thing is the only reason I was having the shop do it was so I wouldnt have to buy the special tool to only be used once but oh well, live and learn I guess lol.
Would you say you gained/lost torque between the 2.25" and 2.5"? I have a POS lancer 1.6l EX and im using a 2.75" straight pipe from manifold all the way through and i've lost a lot of torque.
Generally larger diameter (to a point) will get you more power but there is a chance you’ll sacrifice some torque. Try coming down in diameter a bit. If you have dual exhaust you might benefit from 2.25. If you have single exit, 2.5” might be a good spot
@@SpeedCultureStudios thx for the response. I'm trying to refit it with a 2.25" press bent but the muffler shop said he only has a 2.5" should i go and refit it with that or should i insist on the 2.25"
@@SpeedCultureStudios yes i can find a different shop. My aim is low end torque plus this car will never have a turbo so if i could fit 2" pipe i would
Both sound good to me either way. It’s all what u perfer in tone and loudness. Usually bigger exhaust will perform best but in this case 2.5 is not gonna 2.25 will be better for this car for power. Having the happy medium size wil give the best for your power. if u like deep mean sound go 2.5. But if u Want louder exhaust go 2.25. I will tell u I have had 2.5 inch exhausts and I have even had some 13/4 inch exhausts. And I can tell u that if the setup is completely the same and same motor other than pipe size the smaller exhaust will be louder!
Overall volume doesn’t change much from 2.25 to 2.5 but the 2.25 has a slightly higher tone which might hit the ears different for sure. The larger diameter exhaust is actually better for power, however a smaller diameter exhaust will typically get you better torque numbers, which was the case for this setup. Dyno results for 2.25-333/285. Results with 2.5-334/276
Speed Culture Studios totally agree it’s not like your getting a huge difference in sound when your only talking a quarter inch But let me tell you have it all with 1 3/4 that’s louder lol. But however of course it’s not the most ideal place for performance so it’s all what a person wants you will be obnoxious but have less power for sure. Loudest usually doesn’t mix with performance lol.
What's good Brutha.. I'm A newbie to Mods. I have a 2006 Fx35 AWD. Just purchased some 3" inch Dynomax Bullets to replace the stock resonators, a 2 5" Upower X-Pipe to replace the stock y pipe as well as some 3" Magnaflow Performance Mufflers for the rear .. What size piping do you suggest I use for those mod pieces?
What were your Dyno numbers for the 2.25 and the 2.5? I'm still really thinking of doing the hybrid step up exhaust going from stock to 2.25, to 2.5, to 3" for the last 3'. How long is the exhaust from the stock down pipes to the exhaust tips?
@@SpeedCultureStudios did you ever think of doing a hybrid 2 25/2.5 system? Run 2.25 from stock, to an X then 2.5 all the way back? Do you still have both systems?
@@dbsimms63 I tested the car with 2.25 test pipes to a 2.5” catback. No change. Also tried it with 3” intakes. Lost power and torque. I have videos on all of thid
@@SpeedCultureStudios since I've not been under a Q50 and seen it's exhaust layout, are test pipes a catless connector pipe from the exhaust manifold, and if so how long are they?
2" isn't all that different from the factory diameter and I don't know if there would be an advantage of going that small. 2.25 seems to be a happy medium allowing for good power but keeping the torque number up as well. A 2" diameter will start impacting tone as well.
Hmm maybe I'll go with 2.25; same setup (Borla Pro XS and Flowmaster FX w/Vibrant resonators). Can't wait to see how that sounds. Since the HFC and mid pipe are 2.5 diameter, will it bottleneck? And what do you mean by high pitched sound on 2.25 piping? Like you, I am trying to find a right exhaust tone for my ears.
@@SpeedCultureStudios I'm gonna make the swap from 2.5 to 2.25. Put my car on E85 tune, is 330 or 340whp is what I'm seeing aftermath? Just trying to get a general idea. Too much research is making my head hurts haha.
@@SpeedCultureStudios I don't mind it louder(I actually want it louder) but I am concerned about rasp so that's why I'm gonna run 4 resonators, 2 as resonators & 2 as mufflers. As of now I only have a muffler delete with Stillen intakes.
$noopyRUger I ran two vibrant resonators and 2 street power mufflers, which are essentially larger resonators (still straight through just way more packing material, and still had some rasp. What size are these resonators you’re getting?
@@SpeedCultureStudios sorry I'm responding late been busy asf (truck driver) but to answer you 2 of them are 20 inch & the other 2 are 9 inch. I'll send you a vid on Instagram when its done.
i cannot find the 2.25 dual inlet/outlet borla pro xs muffler on amazon. when you talk about the diameter difference is it the pipes as a whole or just the muffler and resonators? I'm rather confused at the moment lol
You want the pipe and the mufflers and resonators to match. If you’re doing 2.25” pipe then you’ll want 2.25” mufflers. There may not be any 2.25” borlas available
Honestly drop in filters, a little exhaust work and a tune is all you need man. That’ll get you max results. I’ve done a couple intake vids, check them out. A good set of tires and sway bars go a long way!!
Back with the qx50 questions so , I want to install 2.5 or 3” CAI & I still need to change my cats for test pipes . With that said my catback currently is 2.5 pipe should I bother touching it or doing 3” ? Would definitely value your idea / feedback on this considering the test pipe & CAI and I know I’ll have to get a tune once those are installed ! Thanks
It’s not cheap to do exhaust work and dyno time isn’t cheap either-but It doesn’t matter. The VQ sounds terrible with no muffler-2.25 or 2.5...it doesn’t matter lol.
I see all these different comments and I’m just wondering if all y’all heard the same thing I heard.. The 2.5 sounds significantly better and deeper. Y’all are trippin’ 👨🏽🦯
I have a 1.75" system. Getting a custom cat back non res system done soon. Now looked at cheap systems and they are 2". Then looked at Cobra and Miltek and they are 2.5" for my car. The custom place said they will replace with original size but in stainless. Now I been reading that going bigger will give you a deeper tone but also can create power loss. So I think going from 1.75" to 2.5" is gonna be too much especially on a small car. But comparing the cheap small systems to the 2.5" Cobra, the Cobra sounded nice. So any advice on what I should do coz I want a nice sound but don't want to lose power but also don't want that buzz at higher revs that I seem to hear on cheaper more restricted systems. Thanks
What car are you planning to do the install on? Generally, when you increase exhaust diameter (if you don’t tune the car) you can lose some low end torque. Depending on the engine, going from a 1.75 to a 2.5 you might lose a few lbs of torque. Going to a 2.25 you may get a slight loss too, but you may not even feel it.
@@SpeedCultureStudios Its a Vauxhall Astra 1.8 140bhp. Its not a powerful car. The problem is I don't want to make the mistake weakening what little power it has but I do want a nice sound. Would you say that buzz I hear from cheaper exhausts is more due the back box or the fact its roughly the same size pipe as the standard compared to the Cobra that I like that has 2.5" pipe and obviously a better back box?
I think they both sound great, but the 2.5 has a more refined sound IMO. I have a 2.25 custom set up with Berk HFC's, x pipe, vibrant, and Borla. I get slight rasp from 3-5k, so I thought about upsizing the midpipe to 2.5, then leaving the x-pipe and on back at 2.25. Do you know of any issues with a larger mid pipe compared to the rest of the catback? I would think the 2.5 midpipe would help reduce that rasp, but haven't found good evidence this will be the case.
The larger diameter will lengthen the waves a bit so the rasp might not be so prominent, but to be honest vibrant products did not eliminate rasp for me. I had vibrant resonators and then vibrant street power mufflers and always has a touch of rasp. Swapped to flowmaster FlowFX resonators and rasp went away.
@@SpeedCultureStudios That's good to hear, I only have the slightest rasp so hopefully upsizing the midpipe will be enough. Otherwise I'll look into the Flowmaster resonators as a replacement. Vibrant has helped reduce the rasp in the past, but I noticed the biggest reduction when I installed the Magnaflow resonated X pipe. It gave it this nice burble on decel too - I highly recommend. Thanks for the quick response man! You probably have the nicest sounding 3.7 sedan I've heard.
Hey boss, what suggest pipe diameter for a 4 banger. 1.7. I have DNA headers, cold air intake, flow pro max.. 2.5 I believe.. sounds ok. Dont like the rasp.. resonator ?
Hi ,if I delete my resonators of my exhaust will decrease my performance, I just want my exhaust to be a little bit louder. I have a invidia Gemini full cat with two resonators and two mufflers
@@torvarrisevans3961 No. like I said, taking the resonators off will make the car more raspy and tinny sounding. Removing resonators from the VQ is never a good idea.
The xl mufflers are intended more for larger engines. I would imagine the main difference is the sound deadening materials that are used. It appears the dimensions are the same but according to borla they are more suited to larger displacements.
Yes. Dyno proof. And it’s common knowledge really in the exhaust world. But I’ve talked about it in several videos one in particular I shared nearly a dozen dyno results. I also proved it with my own personal car. I thought I mentioned it in this video but with 2.25 I made 284lbs and with 2.5 I made 276. Nearly 10lb loss at 3k rpm but made the same amount of power. Obviously it depends on application, but for cars in the 300-350hp range, 2.25” exhaust is ideal with 2.5” being the max (dual exhaust). If you open it beyond that, you’ll really feel the loss in low end torque.
Rob K. Generally you lose torque through the power band. Torque is what gets the car moving. As it accelerates, torque drops off and hp takes over. With that being said, there is a weird little drop at 3k, but it’s insignificant and it jumped back to 277 which it carried all the way beyond 5k, which is where it intersected with the hp curve. The VQ is such a good engine-you might not get huge numbers but they will produce a very nice power/torque curve.
Very nice, on the 3.7 is it better to just go full 3 inch exhaust? I'm currently running the MBRP exhaust at 3 inch diameter. Love the sound and the extra push it gave the car.
If you have a single exit then 3” is good. If you have dual exhaust you start to lose torque at 2.5”. I wouldn’t recommend anything over 2.5” for these cars in a dual exhaust setup. I made 284lbs of torque with 2.25”. Only made 276 with 2.5”.
2.5 sounds better to me I'm just curious if anybody knows if the x-force 2.5 on an XR6 ute is a good choice of exhaust pipes over a mantra ?please help
2.5 is more harmonic and the 2.25 is more raspy. I would say if your car is very mellow i would doca 2.25 and if its a beast of an engine i would do a 2.5 just to balance a little better. And leave resonators on people. Most cars sound like complete crap with them off and make them undrivable
@@SpeedCultureStudios thanks brother, also was just wondering, I just went to a local mechanic shop and got a muffler delete done, don’t know what type of pipe they put on (guessing 2”) but anyways, I was wondering if the exhaust tips you have on your infiniti will fit for me, or is it too big of a inlet?

Some people can’t even tell!
Did the last sound clip on the dyno With 2.5” borla have resonators or was it just cats and borla mufflers?
What a sound 😍😍 no matter what exhaust
Glad you like it! I like them both as well!!
I got 2.5 on my sentra 2015 6 speed manual, with a magnaflow muffler, sounds clean
Nice! Good info
2.5 all the way 👍
STRONGLY prefer the 2.5. Definitely has a deeper tone, which I love
You definitely right. 2.5 sounds more beefier and throatier
Getting a 2.5" Borla Pro XS setup Monday! I might opt for the quieter tone resonators but absolutely love the deep tone. I have a Z1 ecutek full tune with intakes and HFCs
how does it sound? im looking to get the same things as you, what did you get for HFCs?
I’m going Borla to, I think it will kill the raspyness all these vq’s bring
I have a 3 inch isr catback single exit exhaust and it’s sounds very deep but I’m liking the 2.25 inch sound a lot it’s hard to choose becuz they both sound good
They really do all sound good. That 3” single has its own unique sound though for sure!
Speed Culture Studios yeah the best way I can explain it is it’s more of a deep rumble
2.5 without a doubt, looking to do same setup
Definitely happy with the 2.5
Oops, thought i had a 2.25.
Have you read this article about exhaust diameter on tq and hp on the VQ?
motordyneengineering.com/exhaust-backpressure-and-scavenging/
I'm just trying to figure out how their results differ from yours.
Makes me wonder how my Fx50s would sound with an aftermarket exhaust
GOOOD!
The description of the video says 2.25 is better for torque and gains I agree 😄 I tried a greddy evo gt dual with 3' piping.
I noticed the loss of torque and the gain in noise inmediatelly
Yes, smaller diameter (to a point) is better for torque.
Awesome! I'm glad you checked in! If you have IG, send me a video when you get the exhaust done. I'd love to hear it!
Its a scion tho so........does it really matter?
I been debating all day which I should buy and would sound better for my 3.0t. Then this vid pop up. I’ll have to go with the 2.5” just because it sounds more aggressive to me. Can’t wait until I get my muffler and resonator delete then throw on the 2.5” pipes
If you have the 3.0t and you're thinking about tuning, id go with 3"
2.25 for the crackles and pops more confined than the 2.5
The 2.5 is more for a wide open Horsepower for the diameter is less restricted
Unfortunately I didn’t have flame map when I was 2.25. But yes I’d imagine the pops and bangs would sound different out if smaller diamter
video starts at 2:00
2.5 setup sounds better. But close to 10 lbs/ft of torque loss is substantial.
Yep. Wasn’t happy about that, but I expected it.
Do you believe this same dual setup can work on the 2024 Frontier? Or would you recommend using an X or H pipe? Thanks 👍
Absolutely. I’m planning on doing in my Titan
I'm trying to refit it with a 2.25" press bent but the muffler shop said he only has a 2.5" should i go and refit it with that or should i insist on the 2.25"
@@theuncanspan I think 2.5 will be better than what you have. Can you look for a different shop?
What was the power difference from a 2.25 vs a 2.5, when you dynoed the vehicle?
1hp but the 2.25 made several more pounds of torque. Check out my channel some time. All of this is documented

Yes it does!
I do like the 2.25 sound better.
Interesting. I like it too. Does have more of a race car sound to me.
Do you think 2inch would be to restrictive? Or is 2.25 the happy medium ? Would I lose more torque and hp going 2 inch
No it won’t bottle neck. It’ll flow just fine. The 2.5 has a lower tone. The 2.25 is not “high pitch” but it’s just not as low-hard to explain

Everyone hears it differently lol
Hey speed culture Is the 2.5 a double wall exhaust tip which would you prefer single Wall or double wall
Double

4years later, but 2.5 allllllll the way
can you link the tips u had for your 2.25 setup?
Any proof of the 2.25 having more torque or just butt dyno?
Yes.
The VQ is such a good engine-you might not get huge numbers but they will produce a very nice power/torque curve.
reminds me of rob dahm in his beginning days
I’ll take that as a compliment considering where Rob is now!
If you don’t mind me asking what is the stock exhaust diameter?
2” in many places
2.5 is more manly. DEEPER notes are audible
Resonators are important!
Anyone know a good 2.25 inch y pipe?
There aren’t any that I have seen. You can go the custom route and just have it made
2.25 sounds like a BMW e46
Interesting take!
And is that q50 kinda mean or what? No idea these cars packed a punch.
Fun little cars!
400hp from the factory on the q50s is pretty mean.
Jafuh for the 3.0t yes
What size is the stock exhaust
It ranges all the way down to about 2”
In my opinion I think 2.5 sounds better and more aggressive!
I think it’s definitely deeper, but the 2.25 almost has more of a race car sound.
@@SpeedCultureStudios agreed!
@speed culture studios i want to do the 2.25 setup, but do you think it is obnoxiously loud compared to the 2.5 or just right for the setup ?
If you don’t use any resonators it will be terribly loud no matter what. You can do my exact setup except with 2.25” and it’ll sound great.
Hey man how much horsepower do you have?
Check out my dyno videos! 335ish
I hear a very slight difference
It is definitely very slight. Its a bit more apparent in person, but still so subtle--most people wouldn't be able to hear the difference.
2.38
Very specific.
I got 1.75 on my car
That sound like factory diameter. Good velocity but potentially restrictive.
What is the stock size?
2”
@@SpeedCultureStudios thanks brother, also was just wondering, I just went to a local mechanic shop and got a muffler delete done, don’t know what type of pipe they put on (guessing 2”) but anyways, I was wondering if the exhaust tips you have on your infiniti will fit for me, or is it too big of a inlet?
@@evojug6973 Too big of an inlet if they used 2" pipe.
2.5🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
These r exhaust tips?
No this full catback system comparison
2.5 sounds way better
Were u shooting flames on the dyno with stock cats?
No. Test pipes are needed for flames
@@SpeedCultureStudios ok, the 2.25 vs 2.5 dyno runs had me thinking that the 2.25 run was a stock setup
z Perplex nope just smaller diameter pipe to get a better torque number.
2.25.
What was the setup for the 2.25? I need 😨
On the dyno it was resonated test pipes and 2 vibrant resonators. The clips on the street that was stock cats and just 2 vibrant resonators. No muffler
Lol I still got 1.75 :$ cant wait for 2.5
Did you get yours done? I have a 1.75" system. Getting a custom cat back non res system done soon. Now looked at cheap systems and they are 2". Then looked at Cobra and Miltek and they are 2.5".
@@Pkdimmock you would definitelly see power loss in torque if you go with more than 2.25.
I had 3'' and I noticed inmediatelly so I went back to 2.25
@@inasimulationwelive I ended up going with a Cobra resonated cat back 2.5". The custom place I was looking at just kept increasing price and then read a lot of bad reviews about crap welding, creased pipes from poor bending and not honouring the lifetime warranty so. The Cobra is awesome. Car seems a little more responsive and sounds so nice but doesn't get stupid loud. I'm happy.
@@Pkdimmock so nice you have 2.5 pipes ! In my case i have dna catback $300 dlls catback 👍
@@inasimulationwelive yeah 2.5 is more than enough. 2.25 pos woulda been ideal but it seems fine so far. Love the sound. Gonna get a remap done soon maybe. Not to gain hp but to sort out the flat spot at low revs the 1.8 has
ᴄᴏᴏʟ sᴏᴜɴᴅs #eargasm❤
It won't climb hills without back pressure. I'd go no larger than 1.5". 🤭
smaller the better
2.5 deeper rumble. 2.25 to high pitched and annoying to me imo
Its pretty hard to tell the difference on camera, but there is definitely a change in tone.
The same lol
freal......😂😂
