They don't think they did it first but they seem to believe they made a discovery no one noticed before. I think we are not stuck and unable to make new things. Many have been done. Björk is a great example but not the only one.
That's not my point at all. I like every kind of music. For me it's ok people playing whatever. But about some indie rock from the last 10 years, many things sound blatanly like Fugazi or Pixies while at the same time both the bands and the press were believeing it was innovative. It's ok but not that innovative. No big deal but in other genres people are more sincere about recognizing they are doing almost the same the old bands did, for example in punk rock and some types of heavy metal. Yeah sometimes they claim to be innovative but they can not pretend the piooners they sound like do not exist.
