  • August 18, 2023 -- The Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site is located on Cape Breton Island’s eastern coast, 40 minutes from Sydney, Nova Scotia. As a fishing port, military base and center of commerce, Louisbourg briefly shared front rank importance in France's overseas empire because of its cod exports. It flourished for less than half a century, and then it was extinguished by military conquest. None of its structures survived the next two centuries. Approximately one-quarter of the original town and fortifications were recreated between the 1960s and 1980s as they were during the 1740s, immediately preceding Louisbourg's first siege. The story of the fortress is interesting and its reconstruction is quite remarkable.

Pretty fancy, if a bit wet. By now you must have a pretty good idea of what your new fortress will look like back home.
What a job, rebuilding that! I just looked at the Google Earth images of the area. Street View works to go right down the roads between the buildings.

Oh, that is cool and I didn't realize it was on Google Earth. I would want to show it off as well if I were in charge. Thanks for watching

That two year old salted fish really sounds delicious. Kind of disappointed that the closing announcement at the end wasn't done in three languages.😂

It is incredible to think France is on the Atlantic and Mediterranean, yet they were sourcing their fish from across the ocean. Thanks for watching

@@PatsTravels I didn't get that part at all. I'm sure they were fishing mayor as well. Maybe they were exhausting their resources.
