I cant imagine a GSA box not being opened for decades. That is an original box, I remember tearing into them when i bought 3 for about $45 each back in the 1970's
It really shouldn't be THAT rare? Well, I guess it depends on your definition of "unopened". Like, unopened from when it was bought in the 1970s? Sure, not that unopened. But lots of people will have parents who die who bought them way back in the day, and don't care about it and just resell it to a shop--that's what I did. There were millions of these things, so they should keep popping up as people's parents and grandparents die.
HI Doug, That is a good point. I had figured that GSA box came out of the original mailing packaging that it was shipped in. They did mark the year on the outside box with stamps sometimes- from what I have seen. The auction house did take the coin back and refund my money. I have not posted a follow up video yet.
no way that 1921D MORGAN IS A MS 62! Just from the few seconds I saw, it might grade as AU 58! Just my opinion. I am glad I found your sight! Been collecting coins since the 1960s! Love the hobby!
Welcome to the channel and thank you for watching! Most of my videos are about vintage silver- which for an older collector might seem silly because todays vintage was yesterdays generic silver. On the numismatic side of things I collect mostly CC Morgans.
The best I've gotten from ebay on a raw coin was my 1883 cc . It came back from pcgs as a M.S 66 I only paid 345$ for it plus the 50 to grade it and now it's over a 1,500 dollar coin . Like you said you just have to be careful with the bag marks on cheek and field's.
That's a great pick up! I have not gotten that lucky buying raw coins so I primarily stick to graded coins these days. Buying an unopened CC Morgan is pretty much like buying a 300+ scratch ticket, lol!
I have a number of CC GSA Morgans myself. This was the first time I tried an unopened GSA package- these types of boxes sell at a premium. Your better off just buying the coin in the holder you can see- less of a gamble.
GSA Morgan dollars just seem to attract us no matter how many years old a video is :-) I didn't even notice this one was 5 years old until after I watched ....thats okay, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I remember a year, maybe two years ago the "sealed" GSA` were all over eBay, dang i was so tempted to buy. I just couldn't pull the trigger, I think they were $800-$900.. something like that. I talked with some folks later on that said that they weren't in the original boxes but made to look like it. And everyone they knew that bought one got one of the 3 years we all know, 82,83,84. It was a scam of course. We all want to get that fabulous deal..i guarantee you if I had had extra spare funds at the time I'd probably ended up buying one and being teed off right now. Oh well 😅 Enjoyed your video, I'll check out your channel and what more. Russ Edited to say, i meant to say 2 years old but hit the 5
Thank you for checking out this past video! I agree, the GSA Morgans are very popular with collectors, as it's great part of the CC Morgan coin history. The allure to the unopened boxes is finding that high Mint State coin- MS66+ without having to pay the premium for a coin of that elk. The downside is overpaying for a MS62 when you do not get a coin that would grade out MS66. Lesson learned 🤣
Interesting. I hadn't seen the warning note for those with heavy marks. I have a GSA 1882-CC with box which I've had for twenty years. I literally only just noticed two weeks ago that it's a significant VAM variety so it really does pay to re examine one's own collection.
For sure! You can find some really rare VAMs out there that improve the value of a coin. Are you planing to send the CC is for grading and a VAM designation?
Absolutely! Every so often I take a chance on a raw Morgan- GSA or otherwise. I've now been burned a total of four times on raw Morgans in my time collecting. Your way better off buying already graded Morgan dollars. Thanks for watching Trident!
Thanks for sharing. I think going froward I'll consult with my LCS about the pro's and con's before make a similar purchase like yours. Been lucky so far.
Yes sir- that's a good way to buy Morgan's! I will say- I once bought a raw beautiful blast white 1885-CC from my LCS. A year or two after I bought it- I had them send it out for grading and it came back "cleaned". The LCS was embarrassed and returned 100% of my money. So- that said...consider buying graded Morgans if you are interested in collecting for numismatic value. Thanks for watching Silver Wolves!
We have (6) carson city uncirculated silver dollars ranging from 1880-1883. Do you know what these are worth and how we started on selling them? These were from a great great aunt in an authentic bag. It's been passed down from generations.
Boy, that MS64 is a beautiful coin! I'm awaiting some CC's that I purchased from Ebay auctions in the last couple of days. I'm hoping for the best, but know that neither one of them will be grading as high as your 64. There is something about the old Carson Cities, though.. Thanks for making us aware of yet another auction rip-off. It seems Ebay is not the only with unscrupulous sellers..
Congratulations on your purchase, I hope that CC Morgan is a good coin for you! I love collecting the CC's. Yes, if you decide to purchase "un-opened" GSA Morgans, please be careful. Thanks for checking out the video.
I love Morgan dollar's my friend. Have a few Good to Fine "CC' dollars I bought in the early 80's. I did snag a 2021 CC Morgan as well. Very happy about that. I couldn't get it but my girlfriend with the patient's of a saint managed to get me one. She's a keeper!
She is a keeper! Doing bossiness with that government website is torture sometimes. Glad you have a 2021CC coming...now let's hope the mint follows through and strikes the coin-lol! They are said not to ship until Fall, so it will be a long Summer waiting for our coins. Happy 4th John!
HI Ace! Yeah- been burned on those boxes several times now. Just trying to get ahead and open a box with a Morgan that will grade around MS66-67!-lol. Pipe dreaming I guess. Can't believe that one was shipped to me open. The invoice even says "un opened". Thanks for watching!
@@SilverStruck I hear you man! I would contact the auction house to see what they are gonna say. Anyway I love GSA with fat pcgs holders lol 😂 just like your 84cc ,but they are getting more expensive now.
@@ACE_. I will contact the auction house- I have video evidence-lol! Your right about the Morgan dollar pricing- the market is red hot right now for Morgans.
Two differences when purchasing them they case will say Silver Dollar versus Uncirculated Silver Dollar. You'll get the culled paperwork with the Silver Dollar etched on the case.
Yes, I know exactly what your talking about. I have a 1882CC in the "silver dollar" GSA holder with the little card explaining the coin is a lesser quality example. It's interesting how they auctioned these off back then. Thanks for checking out the video!
Bought 2 1878 CC Morgans at $100 each sold the Anacs Cleaned EF45 for $175 & kept the PCGS AU53. So essentially, spent $25 and still got a nice CC Morgan.
From your video's- I can see your attention is elsewhere...ship wreak coins, Libs, bullion, gold- you even have Kilo coins. If you dive down the rabbit hole of graded high dollar Morgans please buy graded coins. The Morgan dollar market is on fire right now, so I was trying to get ahead buying ungraded and hope I opened up a coin that will grade MS66-67. Now I have a 200.00 coin for 500.00 bucks! I'll see you on History Monday my friend- take care
I buy from Ebay as well... just not ungraded or unboxed Morgan dollars. It's too easy for scammers to write an add that will both mislead you and be difficult for recourse on Ebays platform-IMO. Thank you for checking out the video- I always appreciate your support!👍👍
Hey, my friend good video. I just love Carson City GSA Morgan’s. However, for myself whenever I do buy high-grade GSA Morgan’s I always buy the ones that are already graded. I would always caution anybody that is wanting to buy an advertised unopened GSA Morgan. There is just too much risk of being ripped off. Thanks for the video my friend
@Silver Struck Hey thanks for stopping by my friend 😀 Ya ungraded ones can be a problem but the high grade GSA’s are a very good long term investment. If silver drops like it did today, it does not affect the price of these. They just keep climbing in price 😀
Hello from the great state of Michigan. Good evening I found your very interesting video by chance. When my 99-year-old father passed away he left me eight boxes of the 1884 cc had never been opened he purchased them in the 70s what would he have paid for those back in the 70s.
He probably got in on the bidding through the mint, which is the only way to get on of these coins. My dad did the same thing he bid about $30 on one of these coins and he won
Saludos.
I think purchasing a CC Morgan Silver in the GSA holder is a great coin to own! Buying one without seeing it first, is not such a great idea, lol! Glad you enjoy having your coin, that's the most important- collect what makes you happy😊👍
Love the gsa cc morgans just picked up 3 more they are the non uncirculated ones but are sweet looking where still in boxes will do a video of them soon
Hey K Titus, thank you for watching! Great job getting to 1K Subs on your channel! Sorry I didn't sub sooner. Best wishes good sir, see you on the next video.
I have been collecting GSA’s for sometime now. Lowest graded is MS62 and all the rest are 63’s and 64’s. I over paid once on an 84, but it came back as a 64 the amount paid was still more than it’s estimated value. I’m picking up an ungraded 85 next week, should come back at least as an 83.
I have several GSA Morgans in the collection around the same grades as what you are collecting. The more serious part of my collection has the common CC's mostly in MS66 and the harder dates in MS62, like my 93' and 79'. My 89 is the only one not in MS. Good work on acquiring GSA's in MS, you must have a nice collection!
@@SilverStruck Thank you, its been in a state of flux lately. I've flipped a lot of anything not CC in favor of pre33 gold before it becomes unobtainium.
Those GSA's are hot for sure! If you already had the 1921D, why did you buy that lower grade one? Those boxes are cool with the coa etc... Lot of chatter on that coin... Are you still gonna send that new GSA for grading? Wow $504 seems pretty steep... seen some screaming graded GSA Morgans upper $300's - low $400's... Great video, thanks for sharing man! Scams everywhere!
When you are buying the unopened GSA boxes...it's basically a lottery ticket. So, if I opened up the box and the coin was a MS67- this would have been a deal. Buying on speculation lets call it, lol! As you know, your way better off purchasing a slabbed and graded Morgan instead of taking a risk on an unopened box. I can't remember why I bought another 1921D...at one point I had three or four of them. I still have my 1921D MS65 in the old green holder.
I was just given the coin in your video. I feel some of the flaws are on the plastic case. Will I reduce the value if I open the plastic case to examine the coin more closely?
Yes- if you crack a GSA holder, it will mean that you can't prove your coin came from the GSA hoard. Back in the day, the grading companies would crack GSA coins out of the holders. When they graded the coin, they would designate the GSA hoard on the label. So, that's an option...have the coin -re-holdered by a grading service. If you do not care about the GSA pedigree at all- then you can crack the coin without fear of a loss in value.
I just bought one of these supposed “unopened unknown year gsa cc Morgan’s from Silver City Auction today. As soon as I won it I instantly regretted my decision and feared it’s a scam of sorts. I don’t mind the gamble so long as the odds aren’t stacked against me. Meaning, so long as someone else hasn’t already peaked in the box and knows it’s a cheap common. I’m wondering if I should confront the auction house as per authenticity of never being opened before paying for the coin.
The "unopened" GSA boxes I purchased had been opened. The whole point of buying them is to have a fair gamble that you have a high grade coin inside. After I posted the video- I reached out to the auction house I purchased them from and let them know what happend. The end result- they apologized, refunded 100% of my money and paid the shipping to return the coin (This was Heritage Auctions). They told me an employee in shipping probably opened the box to make sure the coin was inside- sounded reasonable. If you would like to reach out to the auction house and voice your concerns, it might save you from an experience like mine. Once you get the box containing the coin, you will know if it's fake- the fakes ones are bright white boxes with glue that is still very stubborn to work with with. The authentic unopened boxes are normally yellowed from age and easier to open because the glue is from the 1970's. If you think of it, please let me know how you make out- SS
got my gsa before covid around 180 each sold for 260 but then they went to like 400. i think 2 of them could have ms 65. iv never seen any gsa in person that were toned but that be awesome to find.
That is great pricing! Nice finds and pick ups. I had similar experiences purchasing coins in 2028 and 2019...then the pricing went crazy after covid. The good part is that the coins purchased years ago are worth more.
The GSA holdered Carson City Morgans are a great way to collect this coin. Your better off purchasing an already graded GSA so you know what you are paying for, imo. Purchasing "unopened" GSA's is a gamble. I've purchased several over time and it never really works out. If you come across any good deals, It would not be a bad idea to collect one of the GSA's!
HI Will! I had been holding off doing a full collection CC video- just because it will be a long video and I need a different space to video it. I have this week off from work, so maybe I'll give it a shot. In my collection I do have all 13 years that Carson City struck Morgan's. Thank you for watching and commenting- I really appreciate the support!
That’s awesome. It’s been a slow go for me getting the CC’s. Enjoy your time off. The Morgan has such a great history and of course is a beautiful coin. Congrats on getting all 13 of them.
I just picked up an 1894 cc graded 'good' for $404. 1884 cc Ms63 for $395 I feel like a sucker, but I love me some CC's Got a cull for $100 I forget the year. Seems like you're doing a little better than me.
I love collecting Carson City coins. I've tried out buying them every which way- raw ones and grade ones. Buying this way was not the best way, lol! If you go back in my videos, I have a complete set video of all 13 CC Morgans- you might like that one if you like CC's. Keep collecting those CC's Silverfox👍
I would prefer seeing what im buying. As you stated purchasing one thats already slabbed is even better. Nobody is going to give any of us a bargain when it comes to coins.
Right on! I pretty much just stick to already slabbed coins for the higher dollar numismatics....it's just easier to assess proper value and condition. I had a raw 1890CC sold me as MS and it graded AU58. This a very nice coin but still.
Well, I purchase primarily from Heritage, my LCS and sometimes Ebay. I have considered buying on these sites but have not yet: Great Collections or Stacks and Bowers
i bought one from a very well known coin channel as well for a very high amount only to get it and realize it too looks like it has been cleaned. i havent said anything to the channel owners but i might ask to get my money back if it ends up being a truely cleaned piece, or do you think im in the wrong for asking for a refund?
Well, if it's in a sealed GSA holder, it couldn't have been cleaned. Back in 1972-1974 the coins should have been simply taking out of the mint bags and placed into GSA holders. The only way I can see you having a cleaned one is if one coin was cracked out of the holder at some point and replaced with another coin. If you find the coin has been cleaned somehow, I would ask for a refund for sure.
@@SilverStruck I have a video posted showing the spot I think is cleaned and you can see the hair lines on and in the "cleaned" spot looks brighter and has the looks of the original skin being wiped off. I paid 575 for it because from the live stream and angles held it looked very much worth it as I thought it would get a high grade. I thought maybe an employee tried removing something from it before placing it in the holder not knowing that a cleaned mark would show?
Did not realize you created content- I just watched your video and subbed. I hate to say it but that blemish in the filed looks like an eraser mark to me. Not saying the person you bought the coin from did that tho- could have happened before. I'm just a collector- if that coin was mine, I would run it past a knowledgeable LCS or even reach out to Numismatic Stacker for an opinion. @@jrpcoins
@@SilverStruck I went to several coin shops and they all agreed that when you hold it in hand it is extremely obvious that it is a cleaned coin, I find it hard to believe that any seasoned collector let alone big youtube name like jb coins would miss something as noticeable as this, even a novice could see it was cleaned? makes me wonder about the integrity there.. maybe it was given to them by the same coin dealer they get their coins from being how that dealer wasnt able to sell it out of his location they probably thought ¨hey you can sell this on your live stream and they wont notice!¨ because I really cant see how the problem on the coin was absolutely never mentioned at all, makes me feel like it was purposely done.
I payed $35.00 for the very same GSA Morgan back in 1976, but after so many years the box deteriorated and I threw it out but the coin it self remains sealed in its GSA holder. Maybe I will send this peace out for grading it does have its luster and no bag marks.
Well the important part is the coin and you kept that! I think it's really that you purchased the GSA Morgans back the 70's. If the coin is nice, you may want to consider sending it in for sure!
Sorry to hear you had some issues with these coins. I use to love buying on eBay but these days I stay away unless I know the dealer. I don't know if the dealer on ebay showed that one coin with the slab in their listing but look at the case on those GSA ones. The ones that sold for the low price had no marking on the case that says Uncirculated. GD
HI GD! Thank you for checking out this video. I purchased this one from Heritage. Since posting this video, I had contacted Heritage about the open box. Heritage was great and refunded my money and paid for the coin to be shipped back to them.
Don't know anything at all about Morgans, CC at that. $500 is a lot for me for a coin. I think only real serious collectors like you are willing to make that investment. I guess that is why I can only afford to collect modern bullion as a hobby. That kind of investment for a coin is for the big boys. Good luck on dealing with that auction house, I hope you find and arrive at a positive resolution.
Hey Dude- thank you for checking out the latest video! I love your collection of bullion coins, it seriously rocks. Keep up the great work finding those collectable coins- having a blast watching you collect. If you get into Morgan's for numismatic value- it's all about condition. Buying graded coins are the way to go and even then, you have to be a little careful. I'll see what the auction house has to say....it's on video if they need proof-lol!
@@SilverStruck Thanks, SS! I appreciate the encouraging words. Even if I wanted to, I don't think I could afford to buy a lot of graded Morgans to be able to maintain a meaningful collection. Happy 4th, my friend!
I doubt there are any real unopened GSA boxes anywhere for sale. I would never be convinced it wasn't opened. I don't care what the box looks like. They can be resealed.
Agreed! I will say, I have seen unopened outer boxes a few times in the past. After this experiment, I think that's it for any coin gambling these days!
I think there okay aslongest u see them before u buy it face everything and price also.. I just got my 1st 1884 gsa cc morgan Ms65 for 538 from apmex but mine didn't come with a box or certificate oh well.. I want to get 1881 1882 and 1883 to collect with them my 84 little by little buys then maybe just get 85 to have those yrs.. ms66 are very expensive just saw on ebay.. but yes just see that everything is okay on the coin and u like the coin before u buy it of course graded also..
I like collecting the easier dates GSA Morgans! 1885CC is a pretty low mintage year, so that might get pricey in a gsa holder. My top 1885 is in a PCGS holder with a MS66+ grade- nice coin. Keep up the great job collecting CC Morgans Beto!
Yup- well technically I got myself, I could have stopped bidding. Having the box already opened though was not expected. The auction house has since refunded my money and even paid for shipping costs.
I contacted the auction house and they took the coins back. They really treated me right, so I have since purchased a bunch of graded coins. Their explanation was that an employee opened the boxes to verify the coin was in there....I can see that.
You had to block yourself off on the back due to the reflectivity being good enough to do a face reveal though? I bet that gets a 63, but I hardly know anything. Certainly is disappointing though - I got a PLish MS65 that I can't believe my LCS didn't try for a CAC slap (it's obv. been less human-handled than my NGC 65+ 1881S, standing as my highest graded Morgan attm), for that exact price. It was an 1883 CC granted, but that good of shape I'm honestly surprised he went that low for me, kind of like the MS63 pitted I got for $50 with a decent ungraded $60 PL to boot for this check's buy, but I think he's feeling bad for my half year of never haggling? Down the line of these boxes, this same LCS owner just received four of them ungraded and decided to sell them all for $350 flat, due to that being the going rate for general uncirculated Carsons (i guess the average MS 60 or MS 61 price?); they are all obviously >=MS 62 being very conservative, but it's a real brain teaser deciding between two with spectacular looks all over but unreflective surfaces, vs. two great, surprisingly not terribly scuffed flat fields, but with a girl that's obviously had a harder life than the other two while in one of those bags they got stowed away in by whoever was fearful the public would swipe them all with those
HI Sir, excellent comment- thank you! Yes, really bad face revealing on this video and I probably should have just re shot the whole vid altogether. Purchasing GSA Carson City Morgan Dollars in a (legitimate) unopened box for 350 is basically like buying a 350.00 lottery ticket...only if you lose you still have a coin, lol! Just today I received a GSA 1881 Carson City Morgan graded by NGC in MS62 with CAC certification with heavy toning on the obverse. I'm more of a blast white collector, so I'm not sure I will keep the coin as I have two other 1881's anyway. I'll email you picks if you like.
The auction house made it right in the end. They said a staff member opened the boxes to make sure the coins were in there. I don't know- I guess I can see that happening.
@@SilverStruck all good bro, I went ahead and sent the GSA slab back to JB coins for a refund its supposed to arrive in their PO box tomorrow, hopefully then i get the refund sent to me just as promptly as it was sent.
I got ripped off in person get this I have a Carson 84 in a GSA holder just like yours except it has an 82 serial number and then again !!!!! There was another pierce of paper which was smaller saying due to the condition of the coin this one will start at auction at $15 dollars and as you know this was 72 ! So why didn’t they switch it out of the GSA holder ?! Oh wait I have that same note wow ?!?! So why didn’t they take it out of the GSA box ? Mine looks just like the one you just opened ! ? I’m like wtf ugh I never realized this what should I do ?!?!?
HI Justin- people need to be very careful when purchasing "unopened" GSA boxes. After that video- the auction house I purchased the coins from gave me a full refund. Same problem with buying original rolls of Morgans- these are largely just scams. Of course the fantasy with opening an unopened box is that you will find a coin that's a high grade, so a lot of collectors buy them thinking that will happen. Back in the 1970's the GSA shipped out "good" quality coins but also un-circulated "culls" or poor quality. You can't tell from the box which is which.
I love reading about the zealous collectors for this overhyped item paying more and more for what seems like it is a rarity. Here in Nevada there are oodles and oodles of these GSA coins in every coin shop I have visited. Many thousands of CC coins survived. The Nugget Casino here in Reno/Sparks was owned by John Ascuaga. His widow has over 3,000 CC silver dollars that are just waiting to hit the market. Don't anybody tell me these are rare as there are several large finds waiting to be sold into the coin market. Avoid the hype and buy gold.
This video is old and at the time I posted it the CC coins where being purchased up left and right. The market is much different today and yes- way more inventory out there. I still own all my GSA coins and all the Morgan CC's in MS expect for my 1889 but the values have come down. No matter, as I will most likely just pass this silver down to my kids. I've been picking up vintage silver mostly now.
Bummer about the baggyness. However any GSA CC are always easy to liquidate. The price paid is a little steep. That is one of the reasons I never buy "unopened" or "unsearched" rolls etc. They all seem to be scams in my humble opinion. Anyhow, thanks for sharing bro!
Totally agree!....but yet I still try-lol. Most of the un-searched or un opened Morgan dollar stuff is a scam for sure. It's hard to get ahead trying to buy raw and hoping for a good coin. I've done it a couple times and did ok but for the most part it's better to buy high grade CC Morgan dollars slabbed. That coin I unboxed must have been from the bottom of the bag. Thanks for watching Silver Surfer, I appreciate your support!
@@SilverStruck ya for sure! It’s like gambling but at least you come out with something! 😂 CSAN and I have had this conversation before. He eventually stopped buying “rolls” because of the many busts. Anyhow, be well bro!
That is very cool Mary! I love hearing from people that had the foresight to purchase such a great coin back when it was much less. Now look at how your coin has appreciated, well done!
These where purchased from a well known auction house- not Ebay. I rarely purchase PM's from Ebay. I ended up getting refunded, so they did step up and take care of it. Buying an unopened GSA coin is similar to buying Vault boxes- it's a coin scratch ticket.
LOL, yup! The real rip off though is paying for unopened GSA boxes and then getting ons that were opened. After the video posted I was able to return the coins to the auction house, they were embarrassed the boxes had been opened. So, in the end everything worked out. Thanks for checking out the video👍👍
Except for buying a horde at a decent price at an estate auction , I have no interest in collecting old coins . I would buy only for the silver and I have no problem buying junk silver if it is at a good price . I think the collectors market is at a bubble and it is going to collapse .
All markets collapse at some point. The numismatic market is no different- it has its highs and lows. I stack and collect. Stacking is more liquid. The collecting part is very long term. As time goes on, these coins just become more rare. These days I only pretty much buy the slabbed and graded coins vs raw.
Buying an unopened one is like buying a lottery ticket, some are winners some are duds, its gambling plain and simple. Truthfully you should avoid all private sales on Ebay because there are so many counterfeiters selling Chinese junk.
Hey Robert, I totally agree! Purchasing an unopened box is a gamble for sure. I didn't say in the video but those coins were purchased from a Heritage Auction and not Ebay. I can say, once Heritage found out what happened they let me ship the coins back for a full refund and even covered shipping- good company. Since this video I must have at least 10,000.00 -/+ in coin purchases from Heritage...which isn't hard to do these days, lol!
One more unrelated comment: I've occasionally seen these weird, legitimate NGS slabbed CC's show up on Ebay and even on the reputable auction sites linked from PCGS - CC's that are "restrikes" for 1886-1888. They were apparently "privately issued" in 2014, appear to be the best-looking Morgan restrikes I've seen apart from Etsy-type silver-coated Cu-Ni garage sale fakes, were minted as DPLs and, strangest of all, command a near $400 price. I cannot track down what's up with these either here on YT or with general Google-fu. Can you comment on them in a newer video?
I cannot stand "restrikes" of any sort. Restrikes make no sense to me- not the original and not a commemorative, so an authorized fake? I like the 2021 Morgan/Peace release because the coins are not re-strikes but commemoratives with different metal content....an updated version with the correct date. I'll look into a video like that for the future.
@@SilverStruck The issue I had is that the 2021's were a bit lackluster and uniform compared to the old ones, but I can't deny it - I do own them LOL. IMO it'll be nicer seeing the new 2023's, what with an opportunity to FINALLY own Carson proofs that don't cost five figures and Morgan proofs, not to mention REVERSE PROOFS, for the first time ever ... and tbh I think the uniformity of the 2021's was due to the very obvious supply shortage of appropriate planchets that still has their price double MSRP in the first place. My lone critique of the moderns moving forward with the 2023 plans would be to return to the sterling of yesteryear, so I can at least put the darn things in my paws without worrying that a fingerprint will forever ruin them or that scratches will develop if I so much as fart too close to one. They pretty much HAVE to be slabbed and forever enjoyed, like proof Eagles, on a slab, which continues to feed the imagined necessity of the two big-box graders. My old Morgan unslabbed PL/DPLs can take a quick distilled water wash and careful pat dry to get rid of my pawprints when they slip off the edges, and though they already have enough scuffs from the decades for those to really matter, also have that 10% copper to give the silver the protection that it needs (IMHO). Yes, it was weird seeing the great NGC verify "private tribute" coins, though since I can't even search who it was, I won't speak to whether they meant them for commemoratives officially or not. Even if they did - and even considering the "1878-1921" printed on all three of them for the coin year, they still hold themselves out as DPLs with a CC stamp on the back and with the official single year they're supposed to stand in for on the NGC case. I mean, it says 2014 or 2015 issue on the NGC label depending on which of the three coins it is, but still. Those years they "stand for" in 86-88 were gap years for CC, period, so there isn't any need to make what should be sold for just a bit over spot into a price similar to what actual Carsons command, as if they carry the vintage quality and era mystique that actual CC's do. It's like how even the most reputable companies out there sell the CC stamped 2021's for more than the others. CC has been closed since ... 1896 or so? So however much your heart goes into making a tribute to them - and trust me, as I said, these may not be "Dan Carr" quality but they are closer to any tributes I've ever seen that aren't copied right off an old coin or under the table rejected die or whatever those counterfeit-but-not guys use. But someone wants 'em I guess, and NGC's reputation shouldn't be taken lightly; it's ICG usually risking their already ailing reputation verifying the "private mint" in-betweeners, so I guess whoever the mint is and whatever purpose was behind it, it must have at least had someone high up in the coin world spend some political capital to get it done. As far as I can tell, NGC holders are the only place where these even show up, and they at least don't grade them (it's simply that legitimizing service they do where they give the category condition they're in and that's all). I will close on a note that GreatCollections call these "reproductions," even though the NGC label does not. Whatever the prestige, it still smells like a way to command the entry CC-level price that they command. If you discover what these are and who made them and why, I will take my hat off to you, good sir!
That is a great question! I kept "face revealing", lol! Normally I would re-shoot the video but face reveal problem aside, I liked how the video turned out. Sorry if that annoyed you. Those GSA holders are just sooo reflective.
Why do coin collectors continue to purchase "a pig in a poke"? Quit wasting your money on sight unseen coins! Invest your money in high quality graded coins! Never purchase even a graded coin without high resolution photographs! Frequent your local coin shop or coin show where you can inspect your purchase in hand! And finally, use your head for something other than a hat rack!
HI David, thank you for watching and leaving a comment! I agree with your view 100%. Most of my collection consists MS graded coins. As the coin values have increased, I decided to try and get ahead of the rising coin prices. I gambled on buying unopened GSA Morgan's in hopes of unboxing a MS66+. I should have known better, lol! Have a great week ahead👍
@@SilverStruck OH BOY, YOU'RE REALLY MAKING BANK WITH ONLY 5K SUBSCRIBERS, LOL THATS ABOUT $ 15 DOLLARS A MONTH, I WOULD RETIRE IF I WAS YOU, HA HA HA HA
If they can fake coins, you should know they more easily fake the third party grading holders. Too many fakes in the hobby. I’ve lost all interest. You don’t know who to trust anymore. Damn , I used to get so much joy from coin collecting.
I cant imagine a GSA box not being opened for decades. That is an original box, I remember tearing into them when i bought 3 for about $45 each back in the 1970's
I think that is pretty neat- you bought these coins back in the 70's! Thank you for checking out the video, much appreciated!
Awesome collection. Thanks for sharing. Very educational and we appreciate the lessons learned 👍
Buying slabbed and graded is the way to go, imo. I took a shot and was hoping to find an MS66+ coin for MS63 pricing...lesson learned for sure😊
I’ve never seen 1 but always buy from recidibal shop
Sorry …
The fact that they had the year marked outside the box, would be the first red flag that the box had been previously opened.
This is great information on the CC Morgans. I never knew any of this and seeing them as you described the situation was helpful. Thanks!
HI Anna T! Thanks for checking out my latest video. Yeah- gotta be careful buying raw Morgan's if your looking for better grade coins.
I’ve purchased two GSA cc and was happy with the purchase. I paid way less for mine from eBay.
I have a number of CC GSA Morgans myself. This was the first time I tried an unopened GSA package- these types of boxes sell at a premium. Your better off just buying the coin in the holder you can see- less of a gamble.
Thank you for the info on the GSA Morgan dollars! I currently don’t have any but one day I will!! Thanks for sharing
This is a great type of coin to have, the GSA Morgans. I hope you acquire one someday!
GSA Morgan dollars just seem to attract us no matter how many years old a video is :-)
I didn't even notice this one was 5 years old until after I watched ....thats okay, I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
Oh well 😅
Enjoyed your video, I'll check out your channel and what more.
Russ
Edited to say, i meant to say 2 years old but hit the 5
Thank you for checking out this past video!
Thank you for sharing this information
HI Big Apple! I love GSA Carson City coins but buy only top grade examples from well know auction houses these days.
Stunning coins,I love Morgan’s ,but my are cheap ones.👍👌👏😎🤩
HI Coin Spot- nothing wrong with lesser expensive Morgan's! The coin feels great in the hand and it's full of history!
Hope you had a top weekend and have a top week ahead top video as alkways injoy catching up on them and a big 👍 from me keep safe
HI Diggersden Tysonfury! Thank you for stopping over to check out the latest video- glad you liked it. Have a wonderful week as well 🙂
Good topic, when you’re dealing with CCs you gotta make sure you do your due diligence
I saw your email, so I will respond to that for you and see if I can help. Thank you for checking out this video👍😊
Great info. Thank you!
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment!😊
That is why I only buy graded GSA hard holders , forget it about unopened box stories lol. Good video to alter others!
Good info. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching. Have great rest of the week!
That sounds like you made a very nice move there! Keep collecting those CC Morgans👍👍
very nice morgans!!
Thank you Jonny B!
Love the Morgans, but I do not buy ones that expensive... at least not yet... I have my Morgans books I would like to complete someday...
I buy the cull beat up common dates and I love to be able to hold em, not a big fan of slabs anyway.
Sorry that happened. Everyone tells me don't buy from eBay, but I do buy from there. Thanks for sharing it.
I buy from Ebay as well... just not ungraded or unboxed Morgan dollars. It's too easy for scammers to write an add that will both mislead you and be difficult for recourse on Ebays platform-IMO. Thank you for checking out the video- I always appreciate your support!👍👍
@@SilverStruck I have got scammed a couple of times. It's just part of the business. Unfortunately. Have a great 4th!
Hey JG- just subbed your channel! Your right about the ungraded GSA Morgan dollars- too risky.
@Silver Struck Hey thanks for stopping by my friend 😀
Ya ungraded ones can be a problem but the high grade GSA’s are a very good long term investment.
That is a wonderful gift your father left you! Authentic unopened GSA boxes are becoming more rare as time goes on.
@@SilverStruck thank You very much!
Love the gsa cc morgans just picked up 3 more they are the non uncirculated ones but are sweet looking where still in boxes will do a video of them soon
Hey Stack Attacker, just subbed your channel so I will be able to see your video! Thank you for watching my Morgan video, much appreciated 👍
I bought an 1880 gsa vam 4, but the case had some damage to it, so I wonder if that affects the value.
Sometime the condition of OGP can change value. Most of the numismatic crowd will buy the coin and not the holder.
HOWDDY🎉🎉🎉,GOOD CARSON CITY COINS.
Thank you for watching!
Hello from the rising sun Japan awesome video I am subscribed
Hey K Titus, thank you for watching! Great job getting to 1K Subs on your channel! Sorry I didn't sub sooner. Best wishes good sir, see you on the next video.
Awesome!🙌🏻❤️🔥
Thankyou my friend! 👍👍
So awesome 😎👍🔥
Thank you!
Great information ❤
Thank you!😊👍
Thanks. Good info. 👍
Thank you for watching, much appreciated 👍😊
Whats your opinion on these GSA’s now? Should I wait to get in till the fomo diea down? Thanks man
The GSA holdered Carson City Morgans are a great way to collect this coin. Your better off purchasing an already graded GSA so you know what you are paying for, imo. Purchasing "unopened" GSA's is a gamble. I've purchased several over time and it never really works out. If you come across any good deals, It would not be a bad idea to collect one of the GSA's!
Why would you block he coin out with some logo??? Never seen someone do that before...JackMaster
I was face revealing in the reflection of the plastic- hard video to create as the GSA holders are reflective.
Definitely a risk buying so called un opened coins. Would love to see your whole collection of CC Morgan's. I only have a few myself
Great video 👍
Thank you very much Butter Beans! Always great to see you here
Super cool coins collection i have to 1655
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words.
I just picked up an 1894 cc graded 'good' for $404.
1884 cc Ms63 for $395
I feel like a sucker, but I love me some CC's
Got a cull for $100 I forget the year.
They didn't make an 1894 cc, that u say u got graded in good condition for $404. If it is a 94cc it's a fake
Also, how do we know if these coins have been graded?
You will know they have been graded because there will be a label from a grading company on them.
Where do you recommend me buy them besides eBay or Heritage
Well, I purchase primarily from Heritage, my LCS and sometimes Ebay. I have considered buying on these sites but have not yet: Great Collections or Stacks and Bowers
Love the pcgs gsas
Me too but I only have one in the collection. You see way more the GSA holders graded with NGC.
i bought one from a very well known coin channel as well for a very high amount only to get it and realize it too looks like it has been cleaned. i havent said anything to the channel owners but i might ask to get my money back if it ends up being a truely cleaned piece, or do you think im in the wrong for asking for a refund?
THANX 4 THE INFO
Thank you for watching! Happy new year😊
Don't know anything at all about Morgans, CC at that.
Yes I do collect them but I got mine back in 1972, so I know they are the real deal
Awesome! You remember when these coins were released to the public😊👍

Thanks for checking out the latest video Scorpion!
They got ya ...
People need to be very careful of "unopened" GSA boxes. It's just a safer bet to buy graded Morgans, imo.
@@SilverStruck yeah 1885 is a little pricey.. yeah al.keep collecting those little by little 1881,1882 83 and 85 then look for rare date..
Damn.... Ouch.
Exactly- ouch. Buying graded Morgan dollars is much safer. Thanks for watching!
They got you.....I was paying anywhere from 150-210 for 1882-1884.
Yup- well technically I got myself, I could have stopped bidding. Having the box already opened though was not expected. The auction house has since refunded my money and even paid for shipping costs.
You could always resell it and probably even make a profit.
I would have an issue with the auction house for it being "unopened".
The auction house made it right in the end. They said a staff member opened the boxes to make sure the coins were in there. I don't know- I guess I can see that happening.
I got screwed pretty hard myself 😅 575 for ungraded and CLEANED!!
Yup- you gotta be very careful with some of these for sure. Sorry to hear about your troubles.
I got mine back in the 70's for $45
That is very cool Mary! I love hearing from people that had the foresight to purchase such a great coin back when it was much less. Now look at how your coin has appreciated, well done!
thanks
Thank you for watching
common date cc GSA's sell for about $300 now
Yes the easier dates have come down in price.
How do u get ripped off on ebay? U can dispute
These where purchased from a well known auction house- not Ebay. I rarely purchase PM's from Ebay. I ended up getting refunded, so they did step up and take care of it. Buying an unopened GSA coin is similar to buying Vault boxes- it's a coin scratch ticket.
Лайк в копилку 👍👍👍
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Damn now I’m thinking the one I just found isn’t real 😪 will find out tomorrow tho
Good luck! I hope you have an authentic coin!
Ripped off= gamble didn’t pay off 😂
@@SilverStruck The Grading Company gets rich,,NOT you. LOL!!
Dang
Thank you for watching!
They have faked the PCGS and NGC tags on those so get yours Certified
Thank you for the heads up! I have heard of that happening. I'll have to dig out my graded GSA CC's and register them.
👉🌹🌹🌹Very nice to success permanent and happiness to your heart and life
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment, much appreciated!
If it wasn't already opened how did they know the date they wrote on the box . Total rip-off
I know, right, lol! I will say the authentic unopened Morgans are still in the outer box they had been shipped in and the date in noted then.
Why did you keep putting your logo up whenever you turned the coin to the reverse side, or why didn't you want us seeing the reverse?
That is a great question! I kept "face revealing", lol! Normally I would re-shoot the video but face reveal problem aside, I liked how the video turned out. Sorry if that annoyed you. Those GSA holders are just sooo reflective.
I have 9 of these
Excellent! I do not have that many, I think 5 or 6 total. The GSA holders are a classic must have for collectors👍
LOL, THE CULL FROM EBAY IS WAY BETTER SHAPE THAN THE 500$ COIN HE BOUGHT FROM COIN SHOP. WOW HA HA
Your the best, thank you for watching!
gambling is your game i see
I did give it a whirl once! These days, I just buy the coin I'm looking for👍
Thay do have fake slabs
Yes they do. I sent my entire collection to CAC to be double verified- no fakes.
This is what happens when u dont dyor
...research
Keep your GD graphic logo out of our field of view, please...
That GSA is reflective, so that graphic was covering face reveals. Sorry you found it frustrating
lot of bagmarks
Yes- bottom of the bag coins for sure. I stick to buying already slabbed and graded coins these days.
GUY MAKES A VIDEO OF HOW NOT TO GET RIPPED OFF, THEN GETS RIPPED OFF AGAIN ON CAMERA, LOL LOL YOU CANT MAKE THIS STUFF UP
Hey, thanks for watching! I made the money back I lost from your watching the video, lol!😊
There are a lot of fakes but don't let that discourage you. Anything can be faked but the real deal is known by collectors
My 96 look better than that
ok
