    I really love how you teach about why a hand made blade is so much better, and all the work and skill goes into creating these. KHHI is my favorite. They are my go to for both kukris and custom blades.

    The steel, of the Khukuri's made in Nepal, are made from the Leaf springs of Land Rover's are Mercedes Benz trucks. Which is about 5160 High Carbon Spring Steel. So really good steel to start with. I have a big one, the Kukuri Cowboy, by Khukuri House of Thamel. I've had it for years, and its a beast of a chopping blade. I just ordered a smaller one. The full flat tang, is better, and stronger. the Kukuri's with the buffalo Horn handle, those are actually rat tail tangs.

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  ปีที่แล้ว

      The horn handles are burn throughs reinforced with their homemade epoxy. Strong as hell, but full tang is always my go to

    I just got the sog kukri machette to replace my straight blade machette. I carry it on my camelback for enduro dirtbike missions. I got stuck in a ravine and needed a runup to climb a 50 foot granite wall. So i knocked down a couple of big scrub bushes to create my runup. I could definitely feel the speed and power of the gurka style blade.
    Although i wasn't quite sure about the design before, I'm sold on it now and want to collect a few nice ones for when i need them.

    I agree with you. I love these Nepalese hand-made kukris with blades between 9-15 inches. I have an even dozen of them. Thats my piece! KHHI sent me a beautiful one for 60 bucks, they made it to order, nice and sharp and mirror polished, and solid. Its not the best technologically, but I can understand why it has a cult like following. I wish it was stainless...have to Flitz it every couple months. Even with oiling because the wood absorbs the oil and holds moisture. Theres a lot of moisture in Jersey. The little utility knife they put on it actually works too. Only other gripe is the grip is small. I can 3 finger it. Top 3 best kukri. Khhi, Tora, and Great Gurkha

    I respect the Nepalese makers and learned from them. Now I forge mine without the Nepalese distinctions of the notch and the butt cap. everything about them isas good as you say. one thing they do that can become better is to quench in oil. I bought several of their blades and because they are being very careful quenching in water the edge quench can be a little unreliable. there can be soft spots on their edges. the more expensive Nepal blades do a little better job of quenching. No machine e ground knife comes close.

    Hey brother, a little tip, when you punch weather it's a jab or undercut or any punch really, most people Evan a lot of pro fighters don't know how to throw a punch wright, how to throw a good punch is pay attention to the thumbs the thumbs control the hand, when closing a fist to punch don't put your thumbs in front of your fingers, put your thumbs straight with your knuckle on the first finger, then punch, this keeps your thumbs safe and it actually gives you a little more speed and balance, just a tip that can improve your punches, your punches will have a bite like that kukeri knife, good video brother, God bless brother

    I confess that I am roadkill on the information superhighway and couldn't find your email address or I would have sent this to you as an email. It's just that I am an old dog, this is a new trick, and anything more advanced than quill pens and carrier pigeons will tend to be somewhat iffy for me.
    However, I wanted you to know that I am waiting on a couple of knives I ordered from the Khukuri House. They can't give me good shipping/delivery dates on them. But that is not really their fault. Nepal has been hard hit by the same outbreak of Covid that is currently ravaging India. I understand that several Khukuri House employees and their families have been adversely affected by this. It has impacted their operations and increased the amount of time that it takes them to process orders. It has also become harder for them to arrange shipping out of Nepal.
    So prayers for the people in Nepal would likely be appreciated. And if you currently have anything on order with them you will have to be patient.

      Absolutely. Besides a few of the staff having a forced two weeks off, they country is under a curfew, so the production hours have changed. They're still busting their asses to get blades put out.

    Hi Donny I have a challenge for you would it be possible for you to turn a szco carbon steel bowie knife into an iron mistress bowie knife because I want an iron mistress bowie knife but the ones I can find are to expensive it would be brilliant if you could make one

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ergonomice might not work. The Iron Mistress has a deep clip point rather than sweeping. The belly is also thin and it has a coffin handle. The amount of grinding it would take could ruin the heat treat. There is one on eBay that is damascus and the only difference is the guard doesn't bend forward, but it's gorgeous and only around $50. Type in, NEW! 14" Damascus Steel Bowie Knife

      In no way do I mean to sound rude but I think you're thinking of a different knife all I would like you to do is give a szco a hidden tang and give it a black handle with a brass Plack Google Alan Ladd iron mistress bowie knife have a look at the details it is truly amazing

      Were you thinking of a different knife

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stehodgson No. I knew exactly the blade you were talking about. The problem with customizing the Carbon Bowie is that the shapes are different from tip to butt. The Iron mistress handle is called a coffin style. The high carbon has a curled pommel. That would have to be filed down straight. The issue there would be that it would leave the rear of the grip too small for coffin contouring. The belly on the IM is a straight design compared to HCs big belly and the clips are different shapes. The guard would need to be removed and hammered over at the ends too. It would be easier to find a blade already closer to the IM shape.

    Those are amazing knifes, there was a news report about a gurkhas from the UK army where on a mission to eliminate a Taliban leader , they where to bring back dna evidence as proof of the kill, but there was a misunderstanding & in the middle of a fire fight the gurkha decided to take the Taliban leaders head back to camp as proof of the kill, & he used his kukri to do it. Here is a link to the artical.

      You wrote period and followed it with a comma. I don't think you can be taken seriously. Especially seeing as how this company makes the British Special Forces kukri blades that go through intensive military preapproval testing. Just junk. You can tell its garbage by how well it performed here completing all tasks flawlessly, with no hiccups. But I'm sure you can pick out a point in this video where the blade absolutely failed. Go ahead, I'll wait...
