Not only because the precise application of spray paint is unthinkably challenging, but these artists often risk legal ramifications, huge fines, and even jail time. These artists battle the elements, break the law, and spend their own hard earned money on paint and supplies. For what? It's all for the sake of art. Nothing else. And if that doesn't give you goosebumps, then you may be hopeless. It's all for the sake of creating something beautiful, original. To make something out of so-called nothing. To bring color and meaning making into a space that desperately needs it. Murals often get recovered, painted over, graffitied over. These masterpieces are temporal, fleeting. Goregeous and brief. And the artists who create them rarely get recognized. Or they didn't used to. I mean, this level of passion is something else.
the illegal side is more about the adrenaline, it's addictive.. and there's nothing better than seeing a completed piece, especially in a fresh or hard to reach spot you see on a commute every day. gives you a lil reminder of your double life lol
