this is what ppl mean about colourism. anok is one of the few models that elevate the art to its peak in the 90s and 00s. no matter how thin and perfect and skilled she is and fits into the industries deadly standards, she lost to a bugger less attractive, less skilled but lighter model. smh
i think on top of colourism theres a bias to cater to "diversity quotas" in a sense what i mean is that they chose her because "oh look we're making history, this is the first plus sized model to have this award, this is groundbreaking and diverse" its cool to see plus sized models represent bigger bodies, but its clear that in terms of work, anok was doind all the shows and everything im dont even keep up that much with models and their careers but its clear to see paloma was chosen to try to cater to diversity it doesnt feel genuine.. id rather have a plus sized model like paloma be chosen later, but who worked just like anok did, rather than her being chosen because its 2023 and we need to do something historical and new

She's beautiful and pkus-sized models should be given the same attention as any other model, but i don't think that she's the most skilled. Diversity is important but skill is even more crucial.

I think she's definitely pretty and has a photogenic and interesting face. But is she the world's best model? Definitely not. I am all for having different body types on the runway, but her walk is extremely plain. I have never seen her walk particularly 'confident'. She doesn't deliver diva, she doesn't deliver avant garde. There are plus size models out there that are better walkers than her and have a more interesting vibe to them.
