For the engine mount threads, use Time Serts and their insert tool for the threaded inserts. You can get ones with the same thread pitch as the OEM bolts. The steel inserts are a millimeter or two shorter than the depth of the original threads, but this is not a problem because the threads are now steel and not weaker aluminum.
Good video! One thing I do when doing the TDI timing is check the torsion value before I remove the timing belt that way you know where it should be or close enough
I sure wish I would have watched this before I got into mine. Now my timing is all messed up and idk how to get the crank and cam close enough to lock them in to fix it.
Bar them over together slowly, other option is if the cranks close have it a 1/4 turn out that way all pistons are down a bit and then get the cam locked, and then bar the crank over to lock it
Hoping to work on it a day this week. The rocker replacement isn’t terrible it’s the little holes here or there around the replacement rocker which is eating up time.
Hi! just got a mk4 wagon tdi and i have no service records for it, so its time to do a timing job. Do you have a link to those tools you were using to lock the cam/crank shafts?
you can purchase from wherever you prefer (idparts or cascade german in usually my go to) crank lock - www.idparts.com/metalnerd-crank-lock-tool-mncrpd-p-2763.html Cam lock - www.idparts.com/locking-pin-for-injection-pump-camshaft-locking-tdi-mn3359-p-2761.html They sell an entire kit as well but i've never had the need for it
i want to check this on my 600k km BEW Golf. we just did the timing on it and i want to check the value with my rosstech but i can only do a full scan and clear codes, how can i add my mk4 to it? i use it for my MK6 CJAA and CBTA, do i need to do something to add a third older car?
Very helpful, just about to start the job, very familiar with ALH engines, this is my first BEW. You showed what I need to know.

I like that INA kit you used. Nice kit that doesn’t break the bank.
Thanks for putting out new content on these. I know it doesn't change much, but still helpful.
No problem, should be a few in the next couple months as I’m trying to get caught up on deferred maintenance before I sell it.
Thanks for the video, I did several alh timing belts and a few ea288s but I'm doing my first bew tonight
Great video. Not many mention the torsion value, which throw me off first time.
Thank you

Yeah that’s not a terrible idea either, I meant to throw vcds on before but this job was a bit rushed

Nice video , keep it up .
Waiting for rocker panels replacement 😅

Which vcds cable is it, there’s some that only work on canbus cars which are 06 and newer
How long does this take to do?
3-4 hours, maybe a touch longer if the first time
Thanks for the video. It's very helpful
No problem hope it helps
Legend 🫡 doing this tomorrow I don’t have new bolts hopefully they don’t break
