    I recently viewed a video on how to utilize the uncapping knife properly. The uncapping knife is inserted on the edge of the frame laterally instead of vertically and "picks" the top of the capping off of the cell to avoid destroying the cell or making more work. It definitely works. Of course I learned this after I had "combed" the uncapping knife across the cells incorrectly lol.

    Thanks Jason. One of the most organized honey extractions I've seen! Have a great day.

    The same effect can be achieved with stickies, without DISEASE TRANSFER, by spraying lightly with water & placing on top of a hive for a couple of days

    Thanks for the video. I love that Maxant extractor, bought one just like it this season and I'm really pleased. Will have to try bolting it down next year.

    The fork I use 100% by lifting up the capping as you Demo'ed. I get fast at it and the loss is minimal.

      It's alright, I don't thing it extracts very well between the frames like it should.

      Honey looked cold thick and on the dry side I'm sure that plays a part . Extracted ours very well but we did do 3 honey pulls thru the season and it was alot warmer out. Also use a hot knife seems to release it more so

    I use two of those stainless steel strainers and two buckets. Those strainers clog with wax pretty quickly. As one clogs, I replace it with a fresh strainer and keep draining my extractor. I move the clogged strainer to the spare bucket and let it drain. Once drained, I use a rubber spatula to clean out the wax clippings and then it is ready to use again.

    Hi Jason. This was a very comprehensive extraction video. Two questions. How many times can a frame of comb be used in honey supers? And, I never seen a good extractor cleaning video. Can you demonstrate how to clean an extractor in a video? Thank you.

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe, a frames can be used several times if it's cared for properly. This is way storing them correctly is important. As far as cleaning the extractor, I unbolt it from the floor and set it out for the bees to clean up. Once I see they lost interest, I dump hot water in and swish it around then drain. Mine is still dirty so I will try to get a video when I do it.

    That looks like the same brand of food grade bucket I got from Lowes and had 3 of them split open on the bottom. Beware. Yikes, don't like those hornets. Thanks for the video.

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct, they are from Lowe's. I will keep an eye on them now that I know they have problems, thanks. The hornets can be nasty if they want but for the most part I don't see many until fall feeding begins. Last year, I had a smell nest in my yard, they never bothered me and I never bothered them. lol I figure they have their place. 🐝🐝🐝

    Hello Jason, thanks for your time and information in your videos. I have the cera cell feeders and also the bee escapes both work fantastic . You probably know about the roller for decapping ,I have it and it saves time and does not destroy your comb, also I just bought a new product synthetic comb from a place called Betterbee.com and will try it out this spring , I saw this product on a video by Fredrick Dunn . Since I have learned from your ideas and practices which I appreciate ,I thought you might be interested in these ideas. Thanks again

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I am aware of the roller decapper just never invested in one but I should. I don't extract much honey though as I usually let the bees keep it.
      These synthetic combs, are they aready drawn plastic comb? If so, I am not a fan (sorry). Kinda seems unnatural to me. A local guy was trying to sell them and I got a chance to see them up close. I do appreciate you sharing the information though and I hope they work well for you.

    Hey Jason i guess yer about to make mead.The problem with mead and wine drinks & booze is the high sugar intake that is bad news for the human body.I know i'm a party pooper but just look around and see all the bad things going on with people today.We all know that sugar feeds Cancer and Psoriasis.If you want to live to be a old beekeeper cut out all sugar and any food that turns into sugar.Go with a Keto diet and you will feel great and live to be a very old beekeeper.I like your work and hope to see ya for a long time .God Bless!

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steve, I understand what your saying but I'm gonna be drinking me so mead. lol I know too much of anything is bad for you and sugar is not different. I have never heard of sugar contributing to Psoriasis though, do you have any research on that? I have Psoriasis and have for about 10 years now. I am not a fan of doctor so I don't take anything for it.
      Thanks for caring!

      @stevesoutdoorworld4340 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JCsBees Hey Jason yes sugar will give you Psoriasis and the next thing you will get is cancer.Doctors and Big Pharma will not tell you this because they make too much money handing out drugs and they end up killing you in the end.So do your homework .A good place to start is Dr. Ken Berry video site.He will take you down the right path.Good luck my friend.

    Great video! That extractor sure looks like it would take the work out of it versus my old hand crank! For filters, I was frugal and used a kitchen strainer that you would place over a bowl, or pot. I made a jig to fit over my bucket so that the strainer could sit on top. It worked rather well, but it was a lot of goofing around I guess.
    I thought you were going to give those hornets the old hive tool test for sure! lol
    Looking forward to part 2! Take care!

    Shb suck..Wax Moths are even worse...I have had honey too high in moisture ferment, instead of wasting it I cooked it and killed the yeast and then it was fine,lil darker .Lost all health benefits of it, but it was a way to save it.Its also a pain in the butt if anyone does it..160 degrees and beyond lol

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me shb are worse, I am able to control the wax moths for the most part but they still suck! lol Good tip about heating honey!

    I dislike yellow jackets and hornets so much that when I find them in or around the hives I pinch/squash them... with bare hands. Have yet to be stung by one of them.

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you do really dislike them. Just be careful both of these wasp pack a punch when they do sting. I use my hive tool to smash them.

    • @highlandhoneybee
      @highlandhoneybee 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not fond of yellow jackets but I quite like those bald-faced hornets. They help to keep the fly population down and I have yet to see any real issues between them and my bees. Dragonflies cause me more grief than hornets in my bee yards.
