  • Seventeen-year-old Collin Griffith is accused of killing his mother, Catherine Griffith, after the two allegedly got in a fight in September of 2024. Collin Griffith told investigators his mother came at him with a knife and she fell on it, forcing a fatal stab wound, but detectives say the teen really murdered her. In 2023, Griffith confessed to killing his father in Oklahoma in what he claimed was self-defense. He was originally arrested for his father’s death but those charges got dropped.

They didn't let him go free hes never been tried so its still an open case and they can still try him. I think they chose not to prosecute yet because they want a stronger case before taking him to court. I don't think they would be able to retry him if a self defense verdict was granted and they think that it's a murder case but need more evidence.

So if it's not because of his parents, is it just some random brain chemistry that makes him a psychopath? Being a psychopath doesn't mean being a spoiled brat. It means you have brain chemistry problems that you're either born with or develop from trauma or get from a brain injury .. So, was he born that way? Well, that's not his fault. So many people defending this kid stating mom was controlling.. are probably the ones that have no idea what your kids are up to. And he did not kill her in self defense.. in order for that to happen he would have to prove he was in danger at that very specific moment, and he wasn’t. He was the attacker at that moment. Watch more trials so you learn that very important part especially on a premeditated count.

Sometimes judges don’t want there to be a reason for appeal so they make their decisions as such. I think because there was sort of a “grey” area in the case law both sides presented he erred on the side of caution of not having the case reversed on appeal on that ruling. There are lots of other recordings etc that have been admitted where he verbally states his intentions.

It’s so wild how many trials actually seem to put the dead victim on trial. They are not here to defend themselves. Cathy had her struggles. However, imo dealing with a kid whom she was scared of, whom was defiant, who learned how to manipulate, and was smart on top of that drove her insane. Then to top it off her mother was working against her instead of standing behind her daughter when she attempted to gain control of this kid. Cathy knew what he was capable of and made all these threats to try and get the upper hand. There’s no way this kid killed both parents and he is the victim.

Prosecutor may be new or maybe it’s just his nature. He doesn’t object to anything and his arguments against defense’s objections to exclude evidence were pitiful. I don’t want to speculate but maybe this case is so “open and shut” he doesn’t feel the need to fight everything. The defense has zero legitimate evidence that this was self-defense. Proving his mother was annoying, unreliable, made idle threats, and had completely lost control of her son isn’t evidence to self-defense. The defense attorney’s cross is almost comically bad.

If we consider the decedent's history, we can't rule out the possibility that she attacked Collin again, and that he acted lawfully in self-defense. Collin will probably be acquitted on the main charges, and will probably be acquitted on the lesser included charge of 2nd degree as well (listen to the jury instructions and the closing arguments tomorrow, and you'll see why). Yes, these two just should’ve never been in the same house. The mom has obvious issues. She’s at home fuming so she threatens a killer to expose that he is a killer, but then goes over there to get him. seems completely logical to me. 🤣
And this prosecutor isn’t the brightest or needs more practice. He keeps going on about that. The mom made threats but didn’t follow through on them like canceling his phone so what? To him it seems to be this big important thing that a jury needs to know that she would threaten to take his phone or other things, but didn’t know really doesn’t help. What helps is the fact that he had told people he wanted to kill her at times she would just say that another time he would remember he should put it into a context that oh if she attacked me firston this day, she did not attack him. That’s what is important and that he did it before sorry that’s an important fact.

Cathy had a history of disobedience, and that's why she got pregnant with Collin's older brother, and married an abusive man who took advantage of an underage student that Cathy brought into their home. The "law" is an extremely flawed concept. Laws are made by people who have their own intentions. Basically random. This kid is a psychopath and he may very well get off for killing both his parents. The statute for what is prejudicial needs to be revisited.

He went from one abusive parent to the next and begged multiple professionals to remove him from his mother’s “care”. The police would just Baker Act him. I did evals in a psychiatric emergency dept for years and they dump these kids off w years of issues and just want to take the responsibility of something happening off of themselves.
