There was a time when my writing prof told me that my writings were pretty much colloquial See, it's really hard to kick out my bad habits. I have benefited from your video with 5 not-good habits that should be less used in writing.
1. Avoid Nouning (it when the noun hides the verbs)
Example: The driver gave assistance to the injured pedestrian=> The driver assisted the injured pedestrian.
2. Watch out for Expletives ( there is, it is)
Ex: There are a dozen students who volunteered for the experiment=> A dozen students volunteered for the experiment.
3. Don’t let It be (is, am, are, was, were, be, being)
Ex: Paul is blogging for a living=> Paul blogs for a living.
4. Avoid Weaklings ( very, lots)
Ex: The really bad news => The terrible news.
5. Chop the Deadwood
Ex: Due to the fact that harvesting takes time.. => Because harvesting takes time.

In some cases, yes. "Edit back" and "edit down" are two-word verbs found in the dictionary.
