@@PerthWAtch Also Tudor and many higher class watches take as basic for their movements ETA movements from the best quality range what they are refine. Fair points but you must know that it is actually quite uncommon to find an ETA 2892 powered watch that would be more expensive than this IWC. The value isn’t there - that’s the criticism that many give. Tudor and many higher class watches are moving to use in-house movements in their sports watches at these price ranges. If a brand wants to use the 2892 for the reasons you specified, that’s fair enough… but if they then charge the same as other respectable brands putting in manufacture movements, they are not going to sell well.
Thanks for the review! An an Oris owner, I guess I'm somewhat prejudiced , but I believe the Oris is the much better value. Yes, the caliber is a higher quality than the Oris, however this and a few 'better'features does not merit the insane price of the IWC -in my opinion.
Cheers for that. I own the Oris and not the IWC so I'm inclined to be biased also - I think Oris has it on the value stakes for sure. And if that's the main criteria one could easily argue there are $500 Swiss divers with better value than the Oris. As we go up the luxury continuum value becomes less of virtue, and unique features, exclusivity and other factors come into play I think.
Almost agreed in all points, but I would have added more points to Oris in terms of style (subjectively) and value for money 10/10 (objectively). Very good review brother.
That Oris is a good watch, but definitely not in the league of this IWC aquatimer. In fact the bezel of that IWC is a piece of art, very smooth, very precise, best bezel in the business. The sunray-blue dial of the cousteau edition is absolute killer, with the little splash of coral-red on second hand, just gorgeous. The overall finish and especially the brush finish on IWC looks like silk, so perfect, German perfect... It's just not fair to compare Oris to IWC, and of course the IWC is 3x the price, fair enough. IWC vs ORIS, it's a no brainer, IWC all day, and twice on sunday.. (let's go diving) ;-)
Thanks for the comment Alex - absolute agree that the IWC is definitely a superior watch. As noted, this isn't really a head-to-head battle, more a comparison to explain what you get for 3x the price. If the Oris was somehow better, IWC should be taken to a back alley, beat up, and shot :)
@@PerthWAtch, thanks for the reply mate, I completely agree with you on that one. Now, the truth is that for diving, IWC is not even the one... I use Rolex, SD43 and that's really a bullet proof watch!

Interesting comparison between two such differently price points.Price aside I like the IWC for its nod to its engineering prowess but one to one really not much arguably to pick a winner ? I don't see many reviews where two watches of vastly differing prices are thrown into the ring! Cheers,Len.
Thanks Len... yeah not really a head to head match-up in my mind, but more an exploration of what you are getting for the price of the IWC in comparison with something quite a bit cheaper. With regards to more such comparisons, check out my video of a Planet Ocean vs. a Steinhart... that was something like $5000 vs $500 watch :)
@@PerthWAtch Hiya, yes I have just dug it out.You have a lot of content out there so am about to subscribe.OK. I would pick that I think and save the rest for a rainy day? Great debate though! Cheers.Len.
Good illustration of diminishing returns. Three times the price is probably what- 15-20% more watch? This is the same ratio between mid and high range optics. I would like the IWC, but it is very hard to justify objectively. Subjectively, I still want it.
hi ivan. another fun and informative watch review and comparison. thank you. however, it is kind of unrelated and unfair comparison between the Oris and IWC, but sometimes it is what it is and still very watchable video. without considering the prices of two watches, if i had to choose one for myself, probably, I would choose Oris over IWC because it just does look really good as a diver, everything is very solid all around. Aesthetically, design, colors, specially the bracelet, it might be a perfect diver watch without breaking your piggy bank. As for IWC, even though, IWC was one of my very favorite watches of all time, but this one is bit strange. I just have a feeling that this will go out of style in few years... Ivan, how about some real comparison and very interesting comparison between this Oris vs Ginualt or Monta Ocean King...etc they are more or less in the similar price range and it would be very interesting how new reputable micro brands can stack up again quite established yet good valued Oris. again, thanks Ivan and good day to you.
Thanks Alex... yeah, more just an exploration of whether what you get is worth for 3x the price really. The Oris is a real darling of mine, so I'm a bit biased towards it. Would certainly love to review and compare a Monta Ocean King if someone would lend me one... Ginault vs. Oris doesn't quite ring right for me because they really are quite different, more so than with the IWC IMO. I have done quite a few videos of Ginault comparisons, not sure if you've checked those out yet? For a more head-to-head comparison, well keep your eyes peeled because I got one against an Omega SMP 300M coming up very soon! :)
Wow, NICE review. If money was not an object, Well, If it weren't, i would have both but, this is a tough one. $5K for the IWC and I like the quick change strap and that awesome dial function. The Oris is a great deal compared and that blue sunburst! Then again, all watches these days come in a blue sunburst. I love a nice stainless bracelet but I am not a big, big fan of that big chunky, THICK link bracelet. I dunno. That's a tough one!
Haha tricky one isn't it? Personally I this Aquis is a real darling of mine, although I still aimed to be as objective as possible, and I think I managed it. Personally I just love that bracelet, and with the dial, well there's sunburst and there's sun BURST... this is more like the latter ;)

Both watches are much more than the sum of their parts. The designs are unique and beautiful. This is why I don't care about inhouse movements in IWC watches. The designs of the watches are the stars, not the movements.
@@PerthWAtch my next watch will be an IWC. The Portugieser or the Aquatimer. That should answer the question 😀 I already own an Aquis which in my opinion is overpriced for what you spec wise get. But the design makes up for it.
Hi Ivan, great video! I have a quick question regarding the size of the IWC, since you are the only one on youtube mentioning the true size of the IWC - 42 case with 44 bezel. Did you actually measure both the case and bezel with calipers? It would be of great help to me to decide if I’m going to pull the trigger on the IWC. Many thanks!
@@PerthWAtch kudos on the review, but failing to measure the case thickness and lug to lug is a glaring oversight. A watch review is woefully incomplete without including those two vital metrics.
Kudos on the comment Paul, but making a statement without first reviewing the information available is a glaring oversight. Measurements are provided in the original reviews of the watches - I don’t repeat this in comparisons. Cheers ;)
@@PerthWAtch the fact that I didn't know that you provided the thickness and lug to lug measurements in a previous video from how many weeks or months ago proves my point. Viewers don't necessarily watch every single video you ever posted. And anyone who hadn't seen your previous video, or if they had seen it, had not memorized every bit of the information contained in it, would find this video lacking because you didn't include vitally relevant information. And by the way, consider growing thicker skin. Your snarky reply to my comment was unnecessary. You may not have liked what I had to say but it was a legitimate critique offered in a respectful tone.
I believe that the 2892 was developed for smaller watches cause the 2824 was to big to put into dress watches. I feel marketing Is responsible for thinking the 2892 is better than 2824. They both can be cosc certified. But good video
Thanks for that. The movements are the same diameter but the 2892 is 1mm thinner, so in that sense it will fit in a smaller watch, although of course entirely unnecessary for this chunky IWC. Info I find consistently report that the 2892 is engineered better with higher efficiency (longer power reserve). The highest grade 2824 is COSC of course, but the 2892 is still more expensive.
Iwc is the better watch and brand. Oris is good value and good option as well but it should be competing with Longines, Tag, Tudor etc. Iwc is seen as a high end luxury brand that competes with Rolex
Oris has alot of watch for the money, there isn't a watch out there ,that can compete with oris price wise ,Oris bracelet is way better than any Rubber strap, just because the movement is made in-house means nothing, i also have both watches ,except My Oris is the orange version.
I will never understand, why someone would buy a watch for the price of the IWC that has not an in house movement, although the movement it has is of good quality, in this price range I expect more than a pimped up third party movement
Yep, most of the time I think I'd be hunting for full manufacture watches at this price... why would someone pick up this IWC? Well I guess if you particularly like the proprietary design features (bezel and quick change system) that might be enough of a reason - the R&D costs here would be considerable.
I prefer the Oris case but the uncommon lugs and bracelet looks crap IMO. Big chunky links with big gaps between them. Makes it look cheap, and with the uncommon lugs, you can't buy a replacement bracelet/strap. I don't see professional divers using either one of these watches, just as I don't see people driving a $300k Range Rover to go off-roading.
Yeah the proprietary unique lugs & bracelet design can be a bugbear and put-off for some. But you *can* buy replacements actually. I thought Range Rover / Land Rover is the King of 4WD but I get your point... to that end I would be inclined to think people may not use a Submariner or Fifty-Fathoms (or a Nautilus for that matter!) to go diving... but a $1300 Aquis might fit the bill (kinda like a Landcruiser :)).
@@PerthWAtch recreational divers maybe. The serious hobbyists and professional divers use diving computer. Mechanical dive watch is obsolete. Digital dive watches like the G-Shock Frogman with depth gauge, temperature gauge, dive timer, etc. are still somewhat useful, but even they can't compete with proper diving computer.
Yes, most (probably all) divers use a dive computer. But most divers also wear a watch, because IF your dive computer fails, you will need to resurface. And before you can resurface, you need one or more decompression stops. To time these decompression stops, you need a watch. It's as simple as that. Sure, it can be a G-shock, but it can also be a mechanical watch. The point is: Watches, mechanical or quartz, still have a very important role when diving. To go diving with only a computer, and no back up timing device, would be extremely foolish.
Well the comparison is like comparing a Volkswagen Golf GTI with a Mercedes SL. I personally enjoy the Style of the Oris 10 times over IWC. The Design of the IWC is boring, by my opinion, but this is where the opinions divide. If you enjoy a 1200€ watch over 3300€. And the comparison of the Bracelet is just dumb, how do you compare a Rubber bracelet against a stainless steel one? Really... is like comparing the submariner with the Blancpain, which by the way was the first with a rotating bezel...so I would not compare Oris to Rolex...
Nah nah nah!!! I totally disagree with your marks on these watches!! I think in terms of value alone, the Oris is a giant killer!! You just cant say that the IWC is a better watch when its three times the price of the Oris! If Oris can produce a watch this good for the price and punch this much above its weight then it has to beat the IWC hands down and the IWC doesn't even have a bracelet for Gods sake!! I rate the Oris as a better watch in terms of value all day long. I certainly wouldn't buy the IWC at the price it is when you have companies like Oris producing watches this good at a third the price of the IWC!
Thanks for your comment Paolo - however I am not sure what you are getting at seeing as *I gave Oris the higher mark for value* Do you have any other specific areas where you actually think the Oris is better than the IWC? *IWC does have a bracelet option* (pretty sure I said this) and that bracelet would also be hands down better than the Oris one if I had that to show. I say that IWC is a better watch because it IS a better watch... if you have different ideas on the marks, then please let me know what marks you would give. Cheers, Ivan.

Yes, the caliber is a higher quality than the Oris, however this and a few 'better'features does not merit the
insane price of the IWC -in my opinion.
Oris by far the best watch.
That's very definitive :)
Almost agreed in all points, but I would have added more points to Oris in terms of style (subjectively) and value for money 10/10 (objectively). Very good review brother.
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed this comparison :)
Great watches, thanks for your work putting the comparison together, syncing the watches was a nice touch as previously noted. A tiny suggestion, make the comparison then reveal the score instead of other way around. Thanks Ivan.
Thanks man - will give that some thought!
Is the IWC a compression diver? Why a crown on either side? Both watches look fantastic and stylistic and durable.
No it's not a compressor case... the bulge on the left side is not a crown... watch the video for explanation of this secret, or better yet, check out my review of the IWC: th-cam.com/video/h_qdyiogmIE/w-d-xo.html
Beautiful Oris...love the blue dial
Thank you - me too! :)
I have just ordered the Clean Ocean Oris 39.5mm, can't wait for it to arrive.
For the price v quality, there is absolutely no reason to overlook an Oris when shopping for a luxury time piece.
Agreed - Oris is not to be overlooked :)
Fan of iwc obviously but in this case i truly prefer the Oris. Even though iwc has a better movement.
Fair enough... that price difference though, ouch!
@@PerthWAtch OK thanks, missed that one! Cheers.
Do let me know your thoughts if you get round to watching it :)
@@PerthWAtch Hiya, yes I have just dug it out.You have a lot of content out there so am about to subscribe.OK. If I had never heard of either Steinhart or Omega and you asked me to pick up which one I guessed was better quality and better looking I would have gone Omega straight off the bat. However as before knowing the quality the Steinhart has and looks and heritage for s 10th of the price that shakes things up a lot? I would pick that I think and save the rest for a rainy day? Great debate though! Cheers.Len.
Haha awesome man, thanks for that... I'm still releasing content weekly, so a subscription would be appreciated support :)
Good illustration of diminishing returns. Three times the price is probably what- 15-20% more watch? This is the same ratio between mid and high range optics. I would like the IWC, but it is very hard to justify objectively. Subjectively, I still want it.
Thanks for the thoughts John!
Both are good watches. I like both designs, but not enough to buy one of them.
Thanks Rene, all fair enough! :)
hi ivan. another fun and informative watch review and comparison. thank you. however, it is kind of unrelated and unfair comparison between the Oris and IWC, but sometimes it is what it is and still very watchable video. without considering the prices of two watches, if i had to choose one for myself, probably, I would choose Oris over IWC because it just does look really good as a diver, everything is very solid all around.
I Love IWC brend and specially there big pilot collection but in this segment, oris aquis is the winner to me.
Thanks for sharing that - yeah the Aquatimer is not their most classic work.
IWC please but on a metal bracelet. Really nicely done vid ivan 👍👍
Thank you :)

@@PerthWAtch good call. i need to quit buying. I honestly feel that you do OK with keeping neutral. Sometimes I wonder. You did one and hit the invicta several times that I felt was a little over the top. Don't let the haters influence you. I watched another guy, not Jodie, this guy has bought some high end pieces, Rolex, Brightling... He hit the Parnis too hard to suit me. I'm afraid he is comparing the Parnis to these thousands of dollar watches. I don't see you doing that so, I think you do well. Unless we no longer care about little guys and $100 pieces. I know you care. Cheers! OMG ! speaking of Invicta, I think they are new but there are several, You know the IP, black painted watches? They made a kaki blue and ? forest green. I could PUKE ! They r nasty ones case, bracelet, all painted. looks like a 5th grade art show.
Haha thanks for that. Oh my oh my... green, khaki, and blue!?!? May it's like some joke... was it released at the start of April? :)
@@PerthWAtch O M G ! ! ! I can not believe this. I was going to look for this and I still have it open on my master PC. Maybe!,,, Joma did this? It sure looks factory or someone dismantled each watch to paint / powder coat them> Her is the link. www.jomashop.com/invicta-pro-diver-watch-27540.html
Both watches are much more than the sum of their parts. The designs are unique and beautiful. This is why I don't care about inhouse movements in IWC watches. The designs of the watches are the stars, not the movements.
Good point... that’s fair enough. Big question is then whether the design is enough for you to pay the rather high asking price of the IWC.
Yes indeed, I use callipers to measure the case dimensions. ATB!
@@PerthWAtch Thank you for your response, this is very helpful! ATB and keep up the good work :D
If the measurements to the outside of the bezel are 44mm on the iwc then how do they get away with calling it a 42mm?
Because the case is 42mm? I can’t remember man, what did I say in my original review?
@@PerthWAtch So the case is 42 mm and the case dianameter is 44 mm?
Nope
I would never pay $5k for any watch using an ETA movement! Oris has always been priced right...good company!
Fair enough - you are definitely not alone in that sentiment!
Thks for the info !
Correct..smiliar price and performance between top versions of both but, 2892 is deemed aesthetically superior.
Iwc is the better watch and brand. Oris is good value and good option as well but it should be competing with Longines, Tag, Tudor etc. Iwc is seen as a high end luxury brand that competes with Rolex
Interesting. Seen by who?
Which is more accurate?
Neither are chronometer, but the IWC ETA is better regulated than the Oris Sellita.
Oris has alot of watch for the money, there isn't a watch out there ,that can compete with oris price wise ,Oris bracelet is way better than any Rubber strap, just because the movement is made in-house means nothing, i also have both watches ,except My Oris is the orange version.
Thanks for sharing those thoughts - yes Oris is just about the best you can get at its price point.
The Oris is quality, but it's also chunky and clunky.
This IWC also happens to be rather chunky actually...
Yeah very true... almost all forum discussions I have seen, divers say that dive computers are the go now.
@@franksbr good point.
Lost me at when a rubber strap is same as a bracelet
Who said that?
IWC every time over Oris
Why?
Oris looks more expensive.
Oh but don't let that fool you, it is devious charmer that will ensnare the unwary!
Sounds like you enjoyed this apart from the dumb part. Well if you wanna get me the IWC bracelet I’d definitely compare it again. Cheers mate ;)
The Oris is a very handsome purpose built watch, the IWC in my opinion is butt ugly 😮 sorry but the Oris is easily the winner for me. 😊
Haha thanks for the thought!
Fair enough. NATO straps irritate my skin so can't wear them.
Thanks for your comment Paolo - however I am not sure what you are getting at seeing as *I gave Oris the higher mark for value*
Do you have any other specific areas where you actually think the Oris is better than the IWC? *IWC does have a bracelet option* (pretty sure I said this) and that bracelet would also be hands down better than the Oris one if I had that to show. I say that IWC is a better watch because it IS a better watch... if you have different ideas on the marks, then please let me know what marks you would give. Cheers, Ivan.
IWC for CEO, and ORiS for all the men working under him.
Haha good one! :)
PS. Some well treated janitors there!
A smart CEO who wants to stay a CEO would go for the Oris, what fool will pay three times more for modified ETA and a gimmicky rubber strap?
@@kieronjohnson8834 ,because good looking Oris with a reasonable price is a good value prize for some one works hard for the boss😊
buy a TIMEX and call it a day. The oris is nice looking...you discredit yourself by saying some cheap ass(textile strap) with a name brand on it....is rated the same as a stainless bracelet
Thank you for sharing your definitive opinion, Jerk Ass ;)
unwatchable due to lack of focus.
Thank you for your helpful feedback ;)

;)
Oris garbage, IWC great. No list needed…
Very definitive. And wrong 😂
Rubbish review, he basically just keep complementing every watch by every aspect, spent 15mins on describing the style which we all can see with our own eye. Didn't mention their movements at all which is what really differentiate two watches. Overall rubbish review poor comparison
Rubbish comment... sounds like he didn’t even watch the video, not to mention missed where the reviewer described the movements, which is only one aspect of difference anyway ;)
Perth WAtch i missed the 10s movement description part and? It doesn’t take away the rest critics i mentioned, he basically just keep saying nice nice nice nice nice and that’s it. Sounds like you didn’t even watch the video not me.
This guy has given very nice nice nice awesome feedback and that's it. All the best ;)
@@PerthWAtch you are the guy who only listen to what's in your favour and takes absolutely no otherwise opinions and that's it. A smart youtuber would listen to their audience and improve on future video but not you, feel sorry for you
make that review after 5 years and the crappy standard grade sellita sw200 movement accuracy of oris will be much worse than the top grade ETA 2892 movement in IWC. Don't fool yourself an oris aquis is an expensive watch with a base sellita movement. A Sinn is comparable with IWC not oris aquis
Thanks for sharing your insights - I shall be keeping a close eye on my SW200 pieces! Thankfully this one is 3 years along and so far so good... crossing fingers! 🤞
