The very first time I went hiking I was in high school (30 plus yrs ago). A buddy and I went to Sipsey. No map of the area, didn’t know what we were doing, it was in the middle of winter and we had summer weight camping gear. Unprepared was a huge understatement. We got lost and somehow, we came up on this around about 9pm that Saturday night. This was in the mid 90’s, so the Blair Witch Project movie was still pretty popular at the time. You can imagine how scared we got. Ha! We finally made it out and I swore I’d never go back there again. Took me a year or two, but finally went back. Been going there my whole adult life. Been to the Rippey Cabin many times since then. Have even camped in it a few times.
That’s my father in law in the blue shirt. We go on an annual trip here every January. I must have been at the creek at the time you were there! Rippey is a very special place to me. Lots of memories.
Interesting to see a place in the middle of nowhere that has not been vandalised. I could not imagine having to lug a generator into that place! I also can't imagine many places like that exist here in the UK unless in the mountains of Wales or remote parts of Scotland.
