In the larger cities or landmarks you want to light...It's be a great idea to run a few LED's under or to the side of the map...then drill pin holes and run fiber optic cables to each location..that'd make the beacons/Gondor/Bree/ wherever really stand out when its getting dark. Ohh..you gotta add Radagast's house..with a spider >:)
That's an awesome idea! I couldn't pull it off in this one but I am planning on making a much larger map of the mountains between Gondor and Rohan where you push a button and the beacons light on a timer across the mountain range.
13:53 I cannot believe you transported it like that
Lol. Me either.
I've never really had the layout of the films in my head til now, this helps a lot! Excellent work. I agree with another comment to add a Mumakil
That's a super cool idea! Maybe I'll find out where their natural habitat is and put some Mumakil in a herd together.
@@christopherclaflin Yes! I would love to see that.
I sincerely hope you feel proud of this fine piece of art. This looks badass on screen, I can only imagine how it looks irl
Not that important but i hope you consider adding the City of Dale in front of Erebor. Still very well done Chris.
You NEED to add the grey havens / mithlond and the ship Frodo and crew sail off in to the undying lands! Awesome work by the way
It was cool seeing my comment at the start of the video. Hope it helped! The Ost-in-Edhil ruin reference turned out really great! I still think the body of Durins Bane and ruins of the endless stair from Two Towers would be very cool to add to the top of Zirakzigil.
This is incredible. I would very much love to have something like this around while I re-read the books. Then I can look up and track the journey upon this wonderful map.
WOW! I am AMAZED at the amount of detail you’ve put into this project. Can’t wait to see the finished desk.
I don't think you'd be faulted if the major sites/locations are even 110% or 120% or even more. Kinda like how you have Smaug, which is obviously not that big (shown as big as a mountain), but is shown so he is at least visible to the eye. You don't even have to have things that out of proportion. Kinda like seeing footprints on a map that look like they're a city block in length.
Having said that... it would be cool if you had pinhole led lights showing the beacons of Amon Din/Minas Tirith ;)
BTW... PHENOMENAL WORK!!!
None of these landmarks are to scale. to do a true to scale map - this would have to be MUCH larger of a map or the landmarks would need to be pinpricks on the terrain. But it turned out how I wanted it. I do think that I'm going to do a map of the lighting of the beacons of Gondor and put lights in it.
@@christopherclaflin Beautiful!
@@christopherclaflin that would be brilliant, as is this!
absolutely amazed by the quality and scale of this, unbelievably good work and i’m excited to see what you make in the future
Aw, you could put a tiny fishing boat in the river to mark where Deagol and Smeagol find the Ring. You could also add a tiny Balrog corpse where Gandalf "smote his ruin upon the mountainside."
I don't have Instagram but I was able to catch the first 3 parts of the path of the fellowship mini series on FB! Bravo bravo bravo!!!👏👏👏
I definitely subscribed here and I'm really looking forward to part 4 of the path!!!
Dude.....
This is amazing!
Insanely beautiful work! I've always loved the intricacies of tiny art like this. It truly is a labour of love and fantastic exercise for the imagination.
a narrow LED strip that runs the whole route the ring takes all the way to its ending would be cool.
Seeing an update to the first video set the standard my entire week. It's gonna be a good week.
It was good work. It made the places fit better in my mind.
Hey, loving the project so far. I have a few suggestions for additional landmarks you could add:
- Perhaps add the Midgewater Marshes in the space between Bree and Weathertop. They appear in both the book and the Extended edition of Fellowship of the Ring and are one of the first locations that Aragorn and the Hobbits cross on their journey to Rivendell.
-You could also add a miniature Prancing Pony to Bree and a miniature Green Dragon Inn to Hobbiton.
This is SO cool. I commend you on your patience and attention to detail my friend!!
Crazy amazing hard work and result.
I am absolutely loving this project, its really cool seeing this map slowly come to life! If you have any plans for a part 3 I have some additional landmarks that I think would be cool. The city of Pelargir, the ruins of Annuminas, the Stone of Erech, Druadan Forest and the old road through it , Dain's halls in the Iron Hills and Thorin's Halls in the Blue Mountains. Two geographic changes I would make for some additional lore accuracy is adding 3 distinct mountains peaks over Moria and adding the Ice bay of Forochel where the last king of Arnor died.
Yeah I would like to see a third video. I think it could be improved in some ways.
-Mordor would look more like the Mordor of Jackson's movies if you touched it up with a fair amount of deep black paint with an airbrush. It's a volcanic landscape. It should be blackened by soot and by dark black basalt rock. Leave some ridges and summits of the mountains untouched by the deep airbrush paint to enhance the texture and create a sense of depth.
-Find a tiny yellow LED light. Coat it with a tiny blob of slightly amber colored resin. While it's turned into a plastic consistency, half way between being hardened and being liquid, mold it into an almond eye shape. Add the pupil with black paint. Add the red streaks in the retina. And place this illuminated eye of Sauron at the top of Sauron's tower in Mordor.
- Add 1 or 2 white ships off the north western shores, having just departed from the grey havens.
-Add a few sprays of glue to the white tops of mountains, then sprinkle some white, reflective pigment powder onto it, so the snow glitters now and then when you change your viewing angle.
-Add that clear modeling glue to the surface of the sea. Is it called mod podge? Then use an unloaded airbrush (or a straw and your breath) to blow air onto splotches of mod podge. It will blow them into shapes that resemble waves. Covering the entire ocean's surface with such waves, would drastically increase the realism of the sea water.
This is class fella! If you ever get the motivation to do something similar again (I know it's hard to with these hige projects haha), you might have a look at making The Shire. Using the same sized board, but obviously way more detail, with all the farthings and rivers and forrests and elven towers
theoden: where was gondor when the westfold fell?
theoden here: where was gondor?
Sweet! Bow make a map of the first age before the War of Wrath sunk half the continent.
Beautiful work
man when my super secret idea to make 10 mill pans out i am going to get that executive desk.
I think you should change Lorien to be a golden gray color like in the books but it’s an amazing project!
You really should add the beacons
Either way, this is incredible
Brilliant build. The only other places that I would include would be the ruined city of Annuminas and Carn Dum. These are vital cities during the period of the fall of Arnor. Ellesar rebuilds Annuminas as well as Fornost.
Those are awesome suggestions! I'll definitely add those!
@@christopherclaflin good stuff! If you are looking for inspiration on design, Check out the Mod for medieval total war called Divide and Conquer. This game is amazing.
Truly amazing. I love the passion you have for your projects. This channel will be massive soon I hope.
I hope so too! And I really appreciate the comment. My favorite time period of a channel is actually where this one is right now. It's small enough that I can see and respond to most of the comments. When things get big it's fun in other ways but I like the small community phase the most.
Awesome build. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic!
Are you Mad? This is Insane! Love the Love for Detail!
lovely map well done
I'd be over the moon if you did a 3D map of westeros, though it would be more complicated with how many higher and lesser castles there are and the terrain with places such as the North or Dorne.
Also, have you thought about adding lights to places like Lothlorien inside the forest or a light at the doors of Moria.
Awesome map! One addition i think would be cool is the Stone of Erech but it isnt mandatory.
This is so fucking sick
Excellent work, again!
i don't get why people would complain about the accuracy at this scale. i do 3d print and i think this looks awesome as a large scale diorama!
Making it a table is such a fucking cool idea and something that I wish for😁💯🤟 gratis on the work dude!
this is so cool
What about a map of Roshar, from the Stormlight Archive? The map is a cool shape (it's actually a slice of a 3D fractal called a Julia Set) and the landmarks and cities have very distinctive looks.
In this scale you can actually build Angband too (11-12km height). 🏆
This class of maps must be used in oficcial productions.
The size of the ring is even more bigger if it was to be a swimring😂
Great Video Chris! ❤
Thanks, guys!
28:30 i think an even smaller gold ring would be better!
The only thing I can think of that wasn't included is the marsh lands or "Dead Marshes".
You really should add Morgoths darkest fortress Utumno
Would love to play a game of War of the Ring on this board
Very cool video, if you do decide to do LED lights, imagine somehow having the fellowships path they walked illuminated and even bilbo and crew in the hobbit. Regardless, absolutely, amazing work!
That would be awesome. I'll do that if I ever do this map again. But it would ruin the map to add it now I think. I just don't think I know what I'm doing enough to add that to this particular piece.
Will you add old Beleriand too? 💖🙏
Put the beacons between Rohan and Minas Tirith!
but in the movie the hobbit 2 qnd 3 is a big lake between laketown and the lonely mountain, and in your model is only a river. but still a impressive map
Never watched lord of the rings but this is a very interesting video
Gorgeous! Which projector did you use? (Asked on Instagram as well.)
11:07 the Rings of Power looks so good! Why did the writing have to be so bad?!
It's true. A lot of lost potential. But one thing that's interesting to do if you have time... is comparing shot composition between ROP and LOTR. I noticed about halfway through there are a LOT of bust shots. And the series (even though it's gorgous) feels kind of flat in the shot composition. LOTR has these AMAZINGLY framed shots. I've been thinking about doing a video on this actually because Peter Jackson spent like 2 years in storyboarding where it was just him and an artist doing sketches to compose each scene. ROP had SO much budget behind it and they never bothered to think about planning each shot.
When will knightweave ship internationally?? I NEED KNIGHTWEAVE!
Unfortunately we opened the business shipping internationally but it almost put us OUT of business with shipping costs and lost parcels. I think it will be another 18 -36 months before we revisit that as a possibility.
feels weird to see someone with the same last name as me that isn’t Sam Claflin lmao
What about the beacons of Gondor?
Wow...❤
add mumhakil ouside faramirs camp
From Sauron’s view?
Minas Culeth.
Is everything to scale?
The map is. The landmarks are not. They're simply visual markers for cities and regions.
@ thanks
❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Where is Hogwarts?
Epic project! I'm not sure - you added a ton of landmarks already, so I might have missed it, but maybe Beorn's house could be another one.
Yeah! Beorn's house is in there! It's just north of the Gladen Fields and you can see it in the shots where the one ring goes into place.
You look like Aragorn
I almost didn't watch this because your thumbnail makes this look clickbait AF, plus this isn't microscopic. I understand that you chose your thumbnail in order to keep the number of views to a minimum, but I think it's too bad because this is a really well made diorama.
1 hour
Make ur files free plz
Dragon is way too big.
Lol.
Christ saves 🇻🇦✝️
Amazing...
you have a small departure from lore that the "black-sailed ships" that sent Denethor saw in the palantir, have red sails here.
It makes me cringe knowing there are so many sweaty useless people getting upset over some minor inaccuracy in a map like this. Go touch grass.
