    Thanks, this was a good start, however, in order to completely eliminate vibration it is usually necessary to reduce the Pitch and Roll Power values on the Basic tab (I'm using 130 and 50 respectively), also setting Gyro LPF (Advanced tab) to 1 or 2 can help to smooth out the responses.

    I am not sure if Painless covered this in a earlier comment but I found after much trail an error that other than changing the Noisy setting to Silent the position of the camera is crucial. I was getting the nasty motor noise and what finally stopped it is i moved the camera maybe 2mm back into the harness. Once I figured that out I changed how the harness is latched by having the part that goes around the lens go directly down through the slot, run it on back, skip the rear slot, and bring it around to strap it in. This made the came sit about 2mm back that where it was and now there is no noise and no jello in the video from the vibration of the motor. I always knew this was an issue for the roll just didn't think it would have been a big issue for the pitch. Makes sense that it would though.

      FuYing Bro I also had to use 2.40 firmware since my board said there was a mismatch and that I was using 10.3 b9 or some garbage. the 2.40 worked for me but it was probably because I had a newer board. Like he said be careful with your firmware or you may be buying and new board.

      that is mostly caused from oscillation because it is a cheaper gimbal, this creates vibrations and then it gets worse! glad your solution works, but here is a more permanent one I used. two small square pieces of 3m tape between camera and gimbal. this stops the oscillation from creating vibrations. I love the gimbal BTW!

    I'm still very new to the hobby, but I've been building a 450 size quad and want to use it as a camera platform so I purchased a Walkera G-2D brushless gimbal. My system is using a FrSky DR4-II receiver (in PPM mode), a Taranis XD9+ Transmitter, a Seriously Pro Racing F3 EVO flight controller, and Cleanflight Configurator v2.1.0 to program the FC.
    My plan was to use one of the slider pot controls on the Taranis transmitter mapped to a spare channel on the FC motor output signal pins to control the gimbal camera by hooking it to the gimbal pitch control signal Input pin on the G-2D. I've watched many a TH-cam video to gather pieces and parts of what I needed to configure each of the system components to get this to work, but I've failed to get the pitch control working.
    When monitoring in Cleanflight connected to the FC the radio channel tied to the slider pot appears to be working as expected and shows signal on AUX2 going up/down with respective slider pot control movement. But output tied to the gimbal pitch control simply doesn't work.
    In hopes that it will provide the necessary information for someone to help me, I've added a shapshot of all of my system component setups. Any help in resolving this issue will be most appreciated!

    Thank you for sharing this informative video. I certainly was able to download the drivers and simple BGC 2.2 (2.2b2) software with your links, but, I have not used it.
    "Out of the box", my GoodLuckBuy, GoPro brushless gimbal worked fine. The gimbal was stable with with each axis movement. There had been an initial whining of the motors but it soon went away.
    I was able to activate tilt control by connecting the "pitch" pins (signal & ground) at the board with a signal and ground at a spare channel at the receiver, and, set that channel to use the "VR" knob on my Futaba 10J Tx.
    The issue - With the "VR" knob centered, the gimbal and GoPro camera tilt down 30-40 degrees at start up. To get the gimbal back up to level with the horizon, I have to turn the knob counterclockwise.
    Have you experienced this peculiarity? Is that something that I can fix with the software or is that a Tx function that I need to enable? I thank you for any advise.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rogelio, don't worry you can sort this out.
      This feature allows you to set the attitude of the camera manually so you can set a 'tilt' that the gimbal maintains when flying. I use it myself to have a slight downward tilt so that the GoPro camera is looking more at the ground than the sky as I fly using another camera mounted on the body of the model.
      To correct this - connect the gimbal back to the PC and fire up the software. Make sure that one of the button press selections in 'Menu button' tab is set to 'Set tilt angle by hand'. You can see this on mine at 5:23.
      Make a note of how many presses it takes to activate this mode - mine was three.
      Disconnect the gimbal and power it up. Press the button on the board the number of times to enter the 'Set tilt angle by hand' mode and the gimbal will go floppy. Hold the angle you want the board to maintain and after a few seconds the gimbal will store this position and power the motors back up.
      I may make a quick tip out of this as I'm sure other pilots are having the same issues. Hope this helps. Let me know.

      Painless360 Thank you for the reply and help. I wish that I could report that I had success with the GUI. However, the first time I tried to connect on my Comm Port 6, I received an error message that there was a "GUI vs Board Mismatch". The latest version of FW on the board of my gimbal is 0.1.b9 and the GUI is 2.2.b2. Of course the suggestion was to upgrade the FW, but, I can't use the 2.2 GUI to do that because there is a mismatch.
      I have the FW update on my desktop - BGC_2_2b2.enc.hex file, but, the question is how to upload it unto the board. I tried using the "X Loader" (can't recall where I got that idea) to upload the hex file, whilst I didn't know where it was going to be uploaded. Nevertheless, I got another error message...."Failed to upload. Error writing FW."
      Do you have a "How To Upgrade The Firmware On A Cheap GoodLuckBuy Gimbal For Dummies" book handy? I sure could use it right now.
      Thanks again for your help.

      Painless360 I guess I should consider moving on with this gimbal. After several attempts to upgrade the firmware using XLoader (failed to upload error) as prescribed by the Basecam website, all I managed to do is to "brick it". It now just flops to one side and does not respond to anything. The LED's on the board light up, but there is no boot up, nor any response to Tx input. Again...thank you for your help.

    Out of the box, you should throw away that flimsy GoPro strap. It won't hold the camera snug which causes errors with the balance. I ziptied the camera to the case very snug and the buzzing, whining, twitching went away! I have not programmed anything, just out of the box. Also when you move the aircraft at a very high angle, the gimbal does not twitch! Hope this helps anyone.

    Hello, great informative video.
    I'm trying to use this gimbal for a hand held steady cam project. That means I have no need for a flight controller, so I was hoping you could point me in the right direction for some components.
    Around the 7:30 mark you used the servo sweeper in conjunction with some sort of power regulator paired with a battery. I would appreciate some guidance on the power regulator and battery + charger. I unfortunately have very little rc experience so I am largely unfamiliar with these components.
    So if you could point me towards a battery and power distributor like you used in the video it would be much appreciated. Again I have no need for radio control, so your test rig would be the perfect solution for my project. Ideally it would give me 2+ hours of run time between charges.
    Thanks, Teddy

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use any 3s battery something like a 500-800mAh should be ok for this (unless you want to run it for hours at a time). You'll need a UBEC that has about 1.5amps available and a couple of 'servo testers' (that's the thing with the turny knob) to use to set the angles of the gimbal. Best of luck!

      I've not touched one of these for years so all I knew was in this video. The basics for any gimbal apply here - always install the camera before powering on, balance the camera in the gimbal before you turn it on and if it struggles to hold the camera in place then check the balance and then increase the power setting for the axis that can't cope. Best of luck!

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's designed for the weight of a Hero3 camera so if it's close then it might work. The gimbal should naturally balance with the camera installed so that the servos/motors are being used to just move the camera not support it's weight. Best of luck!

    I have the same, but I cannot get the pitch control to work. I connected the pitch control directly to a channel on the receiver.
    - If I connect a servo on that same channel it works perfectly.
    - If I connect the gimball to that channel (only signal or signal + ground, not the +wire) the pitch control doesnt work.
    - I also tried with a servo tester connected to the gimball RC_pitch control and that worked.
    The gimball itself is powered through a 12 Volt bec taking power from the 4S lipo.
    I think it will work when connecting all pins from the receiver to the gimball (also the red cable) but in some video's it is stated that you should only connect the signal wire. I read articles that said it needs a common ground so I also connected the black but still not working.
    I fear that connecting the three wires (also the red) might lead to a short or smoke somewhere. However, when testing with the servo-tester the gimball also receives + volt through the wires (red wire also connected)
    SO... Can I connect all three pin (+,- and S) from the receiver to the rc_pitch control on the gimbal?

    I've been pulling my hair out trying to configure one of these to work with an Iris+. I sort of get the idea that the Pixhawk in the Iris is trying to stabilize the gimbal, and the gimbal controller is also trying to stabilize the camera, ergo the signals are essentially fighting. Would you recommend disabling pitch stabilization on the Gimbal board, and allowing the pixhawk to control it? End game, I'd like the Iris to be able to be able to control the gimbal for autonomous missions. Thanks!

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've not had that here but I'd suspect that it's because the power level setting for that axis is a little low or the gimbal isn't balanced. Check the gimbal rests horizontal naturally with the camera in it..

    • @Painless360

      The camera is supposed to sit on top of that bit, not hang from underneath. Mounting it that way will not allow it to balance naturally (see previous answer)..

    I did everything the way your video shows matey. The only difference was that I didn't need to install separate drivers to run the software, it worked with the downloaded software alone. What would be the outcome if I was to reset the board via the option to do so within the software or via a "long press" of the said little button? Is this something you have done before?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would record ALL of the settings that are in the board now before looking at reset. It will reset the board and also set all of the setup to default. I did this to mine accidently and only had the ability to set it up again as I'd made a video that showed each of the tabs in the software!
      Does the software show that pressing the button three times will perform the 'Set tilt angles'? If so then check the press switch is working..
      Best of luck..

    I have a Question concerning the Servo Lead hook-up. The Gimbal is powered with 11.1-12.6 Volts from the Copter, Ok. So I noticed when You hooked up the servo tilt that You left all three leads on the connector attached, that would be "Signal,center is 5Volt power, and Ground". My Question is this: Is that 5 Volt Power Lead required for the tilt servo motor signal to work correctly? I'm concerned about having 2 Power sources feeding the Board, "12V and 5V", Are they isolated from each other? I'm just worried about that magic smoke that happens when something is not connected properly...lol ;)

    Hi, Thank you so much for your video. I see that you made some adapter to fit the battery plugs, but is is ok to use the 4pin jst-xh directly? if I just solder the - and + wires to the board and ignore the other 2 wires on the 4pins jst-xh?

      Binh Nguyen I use something like that all the time here - see the soldering videos in the RC quick tips playlist.
      Double check polarity and voltage out of your new connector before plugging it in - always pays to be safe not sorry..

    I have a mobius. What do you recommend to do to get it well balanced on this gimbal design? Currently, I have it mounted far out of the mounting plate to keep it relatively balanced, though because it is so light weight it tends to vibrate and buzz, weirdly enough, it does not add any noticeable jello to the recordings, but it does reduce the sharpness (similar to motion blur.) My guess it that it high frequency noise.
    Also with this mount, I have a good bit of jello to work out. I have some EMAX 2213 motors, and some reasonably balanced nylon 10x4.5 props. If I add some foam between the mobius and the gimbal, vibs become really bad. I think lowering the P and D on the gimbal will fix it, but have not tried it yet.

    Hi there Painless. I watched your video on how to adjust the level settings manually. I have the same gimbal as yours in the vid, apart from mine is silver. I have tried the 3 button presses but nothing happens. It connects to the software ok and gives live data on what the sensors are doing and also responds when you click "read" and "write" when making changes. My Gopro settles tilted slightly forward and is a little annoying that the sensor thinks its level. Any suggestions please?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does the software show which number of switch presses is used on your gimbal for 'Set tilt angles by hand' in the 'Menu Tab'? Use that number of presses.
      If you do not have it listed as an option, add it. Hope this helps.
      Happy flying!

    Hi, Do you know hot to connect this board to flight controller so I can control roll and pitch using my transmitter? I don't have PWM possibility so only connecting it to FC can be used to control them?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you don't have PWM on the Rx that you can use then most flight controller have the ability to 'passthrouigh' an aux chennel to a spare PWM motor output for things like this. Look at pass-thru or channel forwarding in the manual/documentation for the flight controller and software you have.

      Thank you very much, I've used Servo_Tilt as Channel Forwarding is impossible to understand and made it work.
      To give some info, Servo_Tilt didn't work on latest CF 2.0.1 and 2.0.2, but I've flashed to BF 3.1.7 and it worked. The catch is if you want it to work you need to add servo under resource using motor ID.
      So if you would like for example use PWM pin for motor 5 then (resource motor 5 none, then resource servo 0 XYY depending on ID you had for motor 5)
      @Painless360 maybe if you could make some video for Channel Forwarding ;)

  • @zacjohnson8404
    @zacjohnson8404 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    you wouldn't happen to know how to control the pitch when your output is set to ppm? There is ppm option in the simplebgc gooey which I have tried and still doesn't work. I can get it to work but setting my output to pwm but then I can't control the quadcopter. I'm using a naze32 board.

      I'd look at channel forwarding to send one of the channels onto an unused PWM output.. Best of luck!

    Just for now I’m going to use the pitch control as I only have 1 spare channel (channel 5), I want to use the top right slider button on my fs i6s radio to control the pitch, would I just connect a wire from the signal pin on the gimbal to the signal pin on channel 5 of the receiver (powering the receiver and gimbal separately)? If so then it’s not working for me. Thanks for replying so quickly for my other questions and sorry if I sound like a noob (I am)

      +Painless360 I finally got it figured out, you can control this gimbal thru the Naze32, with CleanFlight. I don't have the fancy setup to show on the computer like you do but this is how I did it, with my taranis using the left slider.
      1 click on Servo Tilt
      2 clicked on Channel Forwarding
      3 under "Servos" I clicked Servo 0, A4
      I set my left slider to channel 8 which became AUX 4
      and BAM, I can control the pitch of the camera and it also maintains level balance in flight.
      I do have one small issue, the camera has a very slight "twitch" and I have not figured out how to stop it. when I disconnect the gimbal from the Naze32 the twitch stops so somewhere there is a setting I have not found yet to adjust to stop this, but its not bad enough to prevent a video. If you can play with the settings and find a cure I would be in your debt. Thank you good sir.

      @Painless360  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    hi,
    I plan to buy a gimbal like this, because it is the cheapest ATM, but I don't want to use it for FPV yet, but to use it as a handheld stabilizer on my spider camera rig.
    Can you help me, with some circuit scheme for example how to build the cheapest and most simple controller for the manual pitch and roll controls (using switches or potentiometers and no servo tester)?
    As I know the 3 pins have -, + and signal, all I want to do is just send a correct 'signal' for one direction when pushing a button or turning a potentiometer manualy without a transmitter/receiver.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can manually set the angle of this gimbal by hand (see th-cam.com/video/wv301eDPIBI/w-d-xo.html) so unless you want to move the position while in use you can avoid any other electronics.
      If you do want to move it then you will need something like a servo tester to change the PWM values sent to the board like I did in the video. A pot won't do anything.
      Good luck with the project!

    • @fotoamgamgfoto3695
      @fotoamgamgfoto3695 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the idea. This is like the one I used in the video and would allow you to remove the flimsy cover and put them into a custom case if needed - www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store/__14774__HobbyKing_8482_Servo_Tester.html
      Good luck with the project.

    • @fotoamgamgfoto3695
      @fotoamgamgfoto3695 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, this is the cheapest, starting from 2 dollars on ebay.
      Could this one also work?
      www.banggood.com/Multimeter-Tester-for-Servos-ESC-Multi-axis-Aircraft-p-915499.html
      I guess I would need to have some voltage regulator to got 5Volts from my 12Volt battery for the servo tester, but it is also not a big issue :) just the smaller 150mA max version of LM7805 could do it.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would but surely you'll need an easer to see and move control to move the servo output? A UBEC and small 2s lipo will deliver the power you need. Good luck with the project.

    I'm about to buy this gimbal, although I intend to butcher it so I can mount it inline with the frame rather than hanging below. Few questions...
    Do you get the strap that holds the gopro in place? And does the strap have a glass lens or is it hollow?
    How to you mount the gimbal on a DJI F450? Or does it just mount easily on a phantom 2? If so I could get a adapter plate :)

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The strap came with the gimbal and doesn't' have any lens, that part goes over the GoPro lens housing. You can also get them from eBay separately too.
      You need to buy the longer legs and then you can mount the gimbal to the underside of the craft using the nuts/bolts supplied. Don't know about the Phantom - I don't use them myself.
