@@NisseOhlsen YMMV. Lufthansa Economy experience for me was terrible. Poor service, inconsiderate staff, plane overstuffed with pax, poor food. I will never fly Lufthansa again. The Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Barcelona was also unpleasant with no leg room and seats like rocks to cram in more pax. My experience of the A380 on Malaysian was worlds apart - better - but sadly, Malaysian have given up their A380s.

These are by far the best plane for long haul. I went on the Boeing equivalent and nearly had my fillings shaken out, I also had to wear ear plugs all the way due to the high noise level. When I fly on the A380 I fall asleep instantly it’s incredibly quiet and comfortable.
The real benefit of the A380 design was its low noise and short take off so it cleared the area around airports quickly unlike the 747 which took so long to get airborne. Airbus put a lot of research into the A380 which whilst the plane might have been a loss maker, the innovations went into the A350 at little/no cost. And it will be airport congestion that may well lead to the A380 becoming viable. LHR will struggle to get a 3rd runway Changi suffers stacking now and Indian cities are likely to see huge growth in air travel. a 600 seater with first and business class at the same comfort level may well be the answer. And airlines know that folks are happy to pay a premium to fly the A380 which tips the economics.
The A380’s short take off run is due to the fact the wing & engines were set up for the larger -900. So the wings produce a lot more lift at lower speeds on the -800. However, Airbus approached Boeing years ago about building a NLA - looking a lot like the 380 but Boeing weren’t interested - bet they’re regretting that decision now! Only reason the 380 never cracked the US market was their failure to look beyond Boeing - a situation that’s now putting US airlines at risk of falling behind counterparts that are happily using much more comfortable fleet. Indeed, why are Delta - the second US airline switching to an all Airbus fleet and even United are taking the 321NX!!
@@leathomas9983 The American Airlines were too engaged with frequent flights at lower capacity on the basis that folks flying LA to NY etc would rather have a choice of times. They also were misguided about the loading times of the A380. Good organisation at the gate, and using all the doors could have seen an A380 in 2 class configurations loading 600 passengers as quickly as a single door 200-250 passenger plane. Though North American passengers insist on not checking bags and overloading overhead bins! And yes, not built here was a totem they carry to their grief. Such a shame because the A380 would have given the public a much better experience and one for airlines to have to reach too, forcing a better experience for everybody.

I flew business and it was just like lying in my room watching TV. Amazing plane. I also flew economy on Emirates which was not so great in terms of comfort.

Can you imagine all the Suppliers attempting to ramp production back up? Lead time on some forgings are as far out as 2 years. Might be a minimum 5 years to get a first flight. Likely the same amount of time required for an all new design.
Will cost far more to restart production (i.e resourcing materials, production lines and staffing allocations) than any amount of realistic future sales would ever generate. The report I have seen is from (Airbus, 2024) themselves dismissing they will consider restarting production.

Critique: What "big edge" would an A390 "shorter double decker" have over the A330neo or dhe A350? None that would justify an all-new design. Especially with Airbus having no spare capacity to develop and later produce this at all. Makes no sense at all I would think. For us, studying airplane types is fun, but for Airbus it would cost bilions when they've got good offerings in the 400 seat category already.
I do not believe airbus would risk bringing this giant back into production unless at least 800 to 1000 pcs are in order.... such a beast in the sky....

On a per passenger basis the tall, wide body the A380 is highly efficient: you can fit many people inside. The A380 was always wildly popular, but never so with the neanderthal bean counters in the finance department.

They have managed, by the skin of their teeth, been able to worm their way out of real US Government wrath one more time, but I doubt very much that it will happen again. The 'too big to fail' is not a guarantee of success and yet another major scandal pertaining to safety from Boeing and airliners all around the world are going to shun them in droves. So far, there have been under the breath grumblings and mumblings but not much more. The long and the short is that demand for Airbus would in that scenario be astronomical and just because they have converted current manufacturing facilities to other aircraft production, it doesn't mean that they cannot convert them back if they feel it economically viable. They could even build new facilities elsewhere and it is worth noting that Airbus, unlike Boeing, is a cross-border collaborative enterprise. Considering the A380 FAL has been converted to A320 production, new-builds are not going to be an option. The 777X finally has FAA TIA so it can now actually be certified and start deliveries within 12-18 months.
But I think Airbus always had an eye that the former A380 production line might be converted back to A380 production in the longer term, especially now with international air travel growing again.
Also the A380 program failed catastrofic and gave Airbus a huge financial loss. Airbus like Boeing has problems enough to revisit old projects (A380, B757) Spirit who makes parts and fuselages for both is a serious headache. The A220 program is still not profitable and every unit is sold with a loss. A severe shortage of skilled aircraft builders, engineers. The next generation of aircraft engines/ renewable fuels f.e. the unducted turbo fan 2.0 is in the testfase. So no "old" airliners are being developed onlu upgrades and later with the new engines new fuselages.

Trouble with 777x is that it’s not big enough. Airlines that are filling A380s today would take a revenue cut replacing them with 777x. The demand for an eventual or even near term A380-like aircraft is definitely there, hence all the refurbs going on.
The 747 was designed from day 1 to be converted to a freighter when it reached middle age and finished flying passengers. The A380 was never designed with that conversion in mind and even if you did convert one, you would have lots of empty cargo space left after you fill it with what it could carry. It also needs different gates and wider taxiways, so you just cant point it at any airport with a long runway. The production line is also closed and in use for other airbus products. For whatever reason Airbus chose to build a passenger only A380 and once it has done that it is game over. They wont build anymore because there is no market for them.

I just flew on an A380 last week for the first time and it’s the smoothest, stable and quietest plane I have ever flown on. As much as I love the 747 it was a superior experience on the A380.

Wow, there is a lot of false and bad information in this video. There are 10 airlines in the world that fly the A380, and none of them are bigger us airlines. If not one US airline wants anything to do with the A380 how can you say that airlines are “obsessed“ with this plane? Production is essentially impossible because the production line is removed and it's machinery destroyed. There may be a refitt if interest is high but that's about it. A new double decker would be unlikely to have a chance because while airlines are begging for planes, the 380 volume class is not one of them.
Unfortunately, I highly doubt it. There are about 5000 airlines in the world. I believe only 16 purchased it, and pretty much one airline owns most of them. Things need to change a lot for this to happen.
Glad if the airbus A380 can make a come back. It has lots to offer.. New engines coming out soon can power the new aircraft and can make make the Airbus A380 more emotional.
The A380 has no production line available. Looking at probably a couple YEARS at least to get the supply chains back in operation AND get an assembly line for it built.
A useful update. We used Emirates and the A380 on March/April 2024 for our journey from UK-DXB-AKL, home from CHC-SYD and MEL-DXB-UK. Also 7:15 around 250 aircraft were built - we flew on the last one during one of the flights in March/April

One thing to remember: when the airline market had this massive resurgence in passengers, almost every airline that had an A380 had to rush to their storage facilities to bring them back into service. They were not all prepped and on standby on the tarmac. British Airways brought theirs to my airport (DFW) several times. It draws crowds so the airport security have to run out and push people back. I don't get why they want to be so close to the runway. People are nuts, LOL. Those Rolls-Royce engines put out 280,000 lbs of thrust altogether! I wouldn't want to be within 500' of that thing when it lands!
If Emirates wants the A380 so bad they can put their money where their mouth is, by building a line in the Emirates somewhere. This airbus satellite could "install plugs" in existing frames on the A380 and reengine them and other improvements. If enough demand exists, they could new build A380s in the UAE.
They're only cool aircraft until the first crash, then people will want to avoid them. Unlike other planes, this one is quite unique and easier for the general public to remember.
On the other hand, I've been on a transcontinental trip lately (Munich - Detroit - Seattle - Paris - Munich), and I have not seen a single four-engine passenger jet, only some in freight livery.
No the A 380 will not come back, its build facility has been reworked for Airbus A 320 which are much in demand, and the cost of restarting production would be prohibitive : Supplier lead times are very long. Further a neo version would have to replace the current variant which would be hugely costly.
If we flying geeks could decide all aircrafts would be A380's or a new B747 but thats not going to happened. Selling 100 aircrafts is nothing compared to the thousands of orders both Boeing and Airbus have on other "next gen" aircrafts. A380 gives other challenges on support and maintenance, you can't just park this beast in any hangar, you can't even land it everywhere or reach any gate. I think finding facilities for assembly can be done but you would need a quite large order book to even consider this. I would also like to see a new double decker but dont think its going to happen.
I think there is demand but its the supply side which doesnt make sense. They would have to reconstitute assembly lines to restart production possibly replacing scrapped jigs which would be very costly and it would still be a 20 year old design. They could update it with advances from the A350 and A320 NEO bringing composites into the fuselage, different wing design and the upcoming generation of engines but they would still have to recertify it like a brand new aircraft, not even a minor stretch which again would be extremely costly for a limited number of orders. Finally the airports issue, not a huge number of airports went through the cost of redesigning their apron and gate operations to support its vast size, if you built an even larger aircraft you would have to go through that process again. On the plus side there is a lot of spare lift capacity built into the A380 wings meaning you could stretch the fuselage slightly without requiring wing changes or build a substantially shorter fuselage with the same wings and fit only twin engines (Though could lose some cruising speed).
Clickbait. Airbus is not going to restart production of the A380. The former A380 FAL at Jean-Luc Lagardère - Toulouse has switched to making A320s last year. There is no capacity at Hambourg to produce a A380.
Think of it; if the A380 can be relaunched, now with all the up to date engines and other optimizations; it might be an absolute winner. Not only in terms of sheer passenger capacity. Also because airlines will save money as one A380-1000 has 2x to 5x the passenger capacity of twin isle aircraft. Thus airlines can free up other aircraft in their fleet to do other business. Furthermore, large alliances (Star-Alliance as example) can optimize their shared routing even more.
If the A380 made such a massive comeback, do you think the passenger 747 might come back too, depsite the existence of the 777X ? And particularly the 747-8.

It also needs different gates and wider taxiways, so you just cant point it at any airport with a long runway. The production line is also closed and in use for other airbus products. For whatever reason Airbus chose to build a passenger only A380 and once it has done that it is game over. They wont build anymore because there is no market for them.
Ohhh stop it click bait, just cause Airbus mentioned the door was not completely closed on production they still said very unlikely. The A380 is back in service mainly due to a shortage or delays in production of new jets.

I don't think the A380 ever made a penny of profit. Doesn't matter how popular it is now, the prospect of ever making a profit is virtually zero.
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere it didn't make a profit, but can't find the info. As much as people like the plane, it was still a failure for airbus and the companies that purchased it, with the exception of emirates, which based its operations in a hub model.

I just flew on an A380 last week for the first time and it’s the smoothest, stable and quietest plane I have ever flown on. As much as I love the 747 it was a superior experience on the A380.

A380 is my preferred option, it's just more specious than other air crafts on long hauls.
The best aircraft ever made. Tragically, it was both too late and too early for the required demand. Too late for hub and spinner and too early for the capacity constraints of pilot shortages and on trans-Eurasian routes.

Wow, there is a lot of false and bad information in this video. There are 10 airlines in the world that fly the A380, and none of them are bigger us airlines. If not one US airline wants anything to do with the A380 how can you say that airlines are “obsessed“ with this plane? On top of that airlines that do fly, the A380 aren’t all in love with it, for example Qatar airways Akbar Al-Baka said the A380 was their biggest mistake. Emirates is the only airline I know of that has been asking and wanting for a new version of the A380
Flown on A380's of Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Air France, Qatar Airlines, Qantas, and Malaysia Airlines, love them, built the Engines and worked on them at Airbus in Toulouse, bring them back in production please
Production is essentially impossible because the production line is removed and it's machinery destroyed. There may be a refitt if interest is high but that's about it. A new double decker would be unlikely to have a chance because while airlines are begging for planes, the 380 volume class is not one of them.
Unfortunately, I highly doubt it. There are about 5000 airlines in the world. I believe only 16 purchased it, and pretty much one airline owns most of them. Things need to change a lot for this to happen.
Uhm and those 16 airlines own over 65% of the non American market

A useful update. We used Emirates and the A380 on March/April 2024 for our journey from UK-DXB-AKL, home from CHC-SYD and MEL-DXB-UK. Also 7:15 around 250 aircraft were built - we flew on the last one during one of the flights in March/April

Me too! In case Airbus A380 don't return. My most Favorite plane of all time is A350! Seen many airlines operating the A350. You can't believe Lufthansa became the 10th A350 operator back in 2017!

One thing to remember: when the airline market had this massive resurgence in passengers, almost every airline that had an A380 had to rush to their storage facilities to bring them back into service. They were not all prepped and on standby on the tarmac. British Airways brought theirs to my airport (DFW) several times. It draws crowds so the airport security have to run out and push people back. I don't get why they want to be so close to the runway. People are nuts, LOL. Those Rolls-Royce engines put out 280,000 lbs of thrust altogether! I wouldn't want to be within 500' of that thing when it lands!

If Emirates wants the A380 so bad they can put their money where their mouth is, by building a line in the Emirates somewhere. This airbus satellite could "install plugs" in existing frames on the A380 and reengine them and other improvements. If enough demand exists, they could new build A380s in the UAE.
They're only cool aircraft until the first crash, then people will want to avoid them. Unlike other planes, this one is quite unique and easier for the general public to remember.

No aircraft ever got out of business because it crashed - in recent times. Even the dreaded 737Max-8 returned to operations.

No the A 380 will not come back, its build facility has been reworked for Airbus A 320 which are much in demand, and the cost of restarting production would be prohibitive : Supplier lead times are very long. Further a neo version would have to replace the current variant which would be hugely costly.

If we flying geeks could decide all aircrafts would be A380's or a new B747 but thats not going to happened. Selling 100 aircrafts is nothing compared to the thousands of orders both Boeing and Airbus have on other "next gen" aircrafts. A380 gives other challenges on support and maintenance, you can't just park this beast in any hangar, you can't even land it everywhere or reach any gate.
I think finding facilities for assembly can be done but you would need a quite large order book to even consider this. I would also like to see a new double decker but dont think its going to happen.

I think there is demand but its the supply side which doesnt make sense. They would have to reconstitute assembly lines to restart production possibly replacing scrapped jigs which would be very costly and it would still be a 20 year old design. They could update it with advances from the A350 and A320 NEO bringing composites into the fuselage, different wing design and the upcoming generation of engines but they would still have to recertify it like a brand new aircraft, not even a minor stretch which again would be extremely costly for a limited number of orders. Finally the airports issue, not a huge number of airports went through the cost of redesigning their apron and gate operations to support its vast size, if you built an even larger aircraft you would have to go through that process again. On the plus side there is a lot of spare lift capacity built into the A380 wings meaning you could stretch the fuselage slightly without requiring wing changes or build a substantially shorter fuselage with the same wings and fit only twin engines (Though could lose some cruising speed).
Clickbait. Airbus is not going to restart production of the A380. The former A380 FAL at Jean-Luc Lagardère - Toulouse has switched to making A320s last year. There is no capacity at Hambourg to produce a A380.
I was lucky enough to do two trips in the A380 in May, in Biz class. Emirates. Oh my word. Fantastic, I wish I could afford to fly it every week.

A large plane and the pressure on staff at airports for quick return around on these aircraft , can take its toll on the staff involved.
Think of it; if the A380 can be relaunched, now with all the up to date engines and other optimizations; it might be an absolute winner. Not only in terms of sheer passenger capacity. Also because airlines will save money as one A380-1000 has 2x to 5x the passenger capacity of twin isle aircraft. Thus airlines can free up other aircraft in their fleet to do other business. Furthermore, large alliances (Star-Alliance as example) can optimize their shared routing even more.

The reason that A380s are returning is that Boeing are backed up on the 787 and Airbus on the A350. If there were no backlogs there would be no returning 380s.
