Definitely male, but females definitely get nervous. Especially new mothers. That's why they have nervous behavior like hiding/burying puppies (which can harm or delete the puppy), showing little to no interest in the litter, abandonment, ect. Pretty sure the male was nervous that Mama was near by. Dogs don't let males around the puppies till a certain age. Males fear the females for a reason. The females are more headstrong and confrontational, which makes them better guard dogs but need stricter training.
@BooBeez That may be true, as well, but I know that many mothers are protective of the puppies in the beginning, even against the biological father. As a result, he can be nervous when he is finally given a chance to inspect the puppies.

My boy reacted like this the first time he met his puppies….it was a double blow because we didn’t know our girl was pregnant until we took him to be “fixed”. He was so hurt because he couldn’t understand WHY until the next day she delivered thier puppies and he saw the whole thing. At first he thought he had done something wrong but then they became a little micro family inside of our larger one. It was beautiful

I had to give it up because I got injured severely in a bad accident, where I was ran over by a Dooley truck, while crossing the street walking. So I had to rehome my babies. I cried daily in the hospital looking at their pictures on my phone. I will forever miss them, but their memories will always remain in my heart as long as it beats❤
