The rubber tandem suspension is Hendrickson-Norde. Decent articulation but a very harsh ride when lightly laden. Advantages are low maintenance when compared to springs, lower cost than airbags, and overall durability. Disadvantage is barely being able to climb down from the cab after a bobtail run due to crippling back pain 😆 Great work, Mark, I really like being introduced to all these Canadian trucks 🙂

Hey Mark. Mercedes-Benz (now Daimler Truck) bought Detroit Diesel, Freightliner & Western Star years ago. I live in Michigan, and work for a Canadian company and we are developing a new axle technology for Daimler trucks. I don't want to say to much more in public till the system launches but I can tell you that Daimler highly values the Detroit Diesel brand name and still rocks the old school brand symbol on a lot of their parts. Also the main R&D facility is still in Redford Michigan

Shore power is an option when buying trucks. The new inverters work both ways, 12v to 120v out and then plug in and you have 120v plus it charges your batteries. Ideally if you carried a generator you could keep your costs down when waiting for a reload. Also the air gauge on the back of the bunk was probably for him to check his weight. The bigger they are the more accurate read you can get to check weights

You look at the high idle switch... the 400 Cummins had a place in the return line where you could insert a solenoid valve, that would restrict the return enough to speed the engine to half throttle. I have installed several of these when rigging up a picker, so you could speed the engine up from a switch in the crows-nest.

Others have already commented on the Daimler Trucks North America connection between MB and Detroit Diesel, but when Detroit Diesel started development of the HDEP platform it was a bit of a group effort between Michigan and Germany. There's a lot of Mercedes DNA in the DD13, DD15, DD16 such as the engine gear train being in the rear where it would make sense in a european cabover...

The long ramps in the back are to pull a Raised Goose Neck trailer. The detachable front is made to slide up the ramps because the decks don't have jacks since they lay on the ground or blocking to load heavy equipment onto front with the deck removed.

Goodness Mark, the negativity in the comments is astounding. I just wanted to say keep up the good work, I appreciate and look forward to every episode whether it's truck shows, on the hunt, or working on trucks. The LBL restoration is what brought me in years ago (been here since episode three!) but the variety keeps me coming back. Restoring a K100 Aerodyne is on my bucket list after I finish this panoply of other projects, and I love the tips and tricks I catch watching, or listening to (when I can't watch, nightshift daycab driver with just enough time to sleep but 600 miles a night to listen), your videos.
I meant to comment a while back, but when you were measuring the corrugated sides of the trailer for the wrap, I would take a roll of painters tape and tape all the way down the panel, in and out of every dip, mark the top and bottom, pull the tape and lay it on the floor and measure the marks, I think it would be the most accurate way to get the measurement you need!
    Thanks Mark, keep on truckin!

Those old brake controllers are just on and off. Wire them off the brake lights. That's why they are adjustable.
I got a Redarc TowPro Elite and it's actually has a G force sensor in it and the harder the vehicle brakes, the harder the trailer brakes. It has an intensity selector so you can manually crank it up if you want but setting 3 was always perfect for me. It's a beautiful unit.

Mark, On the trailer brakes they are now using an electronic controller. You just hook it to the battery, ground, brake light switch and the brake signal wire that goes to the electric brakes on the trailer. No more plumbing it into the hydraulic brakes at the master cylinder, Not since anti-lock brakes have they used that method.

I love when you do these. Bit of a reality check. Trucks I thought would go for a lot, went for way less than I expected. Trucks I thought would be dirt cheap went for a lot more than I expected. I was saying out loud, water tank, not fuel. You figured it out.. We wrap the water tanks not just so they don't freeze as fast but also so heat up and expand as much, tank is pressurized. Not all cement trucks need it. Our cement trucks are old school Macs. My favorite is the 2 stick. Mac style, forward Hi Lo and reverse on one, gears on the other... Can shift through them in reverse, I tried, it's terrifying. We REALLY need to figure out why that Cabover is STALKING you!! I mean what's going on with that poor truck...

The Hendrickson walking beam suspension on rubber block mounts was the RS series, a low maintenance, heavy duty suspension. It provided better roll stability than the spring type Hendrickson RT suspension.
More and more automatic transmissions in big trucks. This is going the same way as manual transmissions in cars and pickup trucks. They went from nothing but manual, to an option for automatic, to automatic being standard equipment.

The Mercedes bought Frightshaker and in typical Mercedes fashion stamped there name on anything and everything on the trucks to “increase” the value.
The oilfield truck with the rims with the “fill cap” is to most likely fill them with calcium similar to like farm tractors do.

The trucking company I worked for would have us put truck bed liner in the fender wells to try and keep the fender paint from getting cracked.

The Mercedes motors was basically a prototype engine between the 60 series and the newer Detroit engines like the dd13 and so on. Most of the Mercedes are in the Columbia's or the century trucks

On that old kw, that's called Hendrickson walking beam suspension, I have almost identical setup on my 94 w/star. It's good solid low maintenance setup. Nice and stable for spreading gravel with. Hard riding though not for comfort. Also referred to as rubber block suspension or sometimes elephant feet. Was common suspension not so much anymore.

The tank on that first mixer could possibly be the water tank so they can keep the cement wet and in the colder months might help it from freezing up could very well be wrong but just a thought
Should’ve watched a little bit further in the video before I made the comment my bad

The truck Sylvester Stallone drove in first blood
    Was a GMC M-135 from the 50s I own one….
The truck 1/2 a truck you were looking at. Looked like a 80s-90s AM general 5 ton
Had either a 250 Cummins or an 8.3 Cummins.
