    Im building one today to mount on top of truck luggage rack on top of the topper. Im going to use the one to put 8-10 baitcasters in, and then im going to just put the spinning rods in the rod tubes on the hobie. I shoulda build one last season, the kit with end caps has been sitting in my garage for a year, all last year id make this long 8 hour rides with all my rods in the hobie rod tubes. U can fit 12 if you double up all the rods in the boat. So it will be great having this rod tube this season.

    Use the left over pipe pieces for coal storage(grilling coals ) with a screw on lid at the top and cap at the bottom.

    Line the inside of the tube with some felt (or fabric) at the sections on each end where the reals go. Will keep them from getting stratched and beat up on the tube.

    What about adding a LED light to the ends of the RodPod tubes so you can see at the end?

    It may have been said elsewhere in the comments but if not I would suggest collapsing the handles on the spinning reels prior to inserting them into the rod tubes. When I do this, I can fit five spinning set ups into a six inch pipe.

    Nice video. They should sell kits that have (2) open/close caps, that way it would be way easier to stack and remove rods.

    A piece of rubber, or shrink wrap between the metal & the pipe would reduce the wear and noise on both the bracket and the trailer.

    Love AC idea, not only do I kayak fish, I’ve also been home brewing beer for 10 years, a couple years ago I turned a $100 window unit into a glycol chiller, I can easily get my water glycol mixture down to 25 degrees. I use it to cool 2, 15 gallon conical fermenters.

    Instead of a Hinged, drop down table, for the outside. You might find it Better, to actually have one that Flips UP, and is supported by 2 poles that are mounted to the Bottom of the table, and simply slide Into 2 receiver tubes on the lower rail of the trailer. No worry of table falling down. Build like a popup camper bed supports. Or..... when you build your Drop down style., have it Pinned, with those old racing car hood, or camper pop up lift pins.

    I have a smaller 5x8.5ft trailer.
    Im building a box , out of outdoor sheathing that is then epoxy fiberglassed, to be the carry-all for when I take the family fishing-camping whatever.
    Heres the big hook. the box Im building, is able to be removed from the trailer, so that the trailer can be used for other tasks.
    Since the box is fiberglassed and sealed, secured with locks, you can leave it in the back yard, not in the garage, and load it up when needed.
    CAVEAT... its heavy. you aint lifting it for nothing. I am using a "H" frame hoist to pick it up, then back the trailer under it.
    If I need to move it, Its stored on large, outdoor terrain casters.
    The box has a trapizoidal top. It has multiple acces points to the storage area, and I can tote 3 kayaks on the 3 flats of the roof.
    I wish I could have had a sleeping tent like yours, but the trailer is too small for that and the kayaks, and the yaks win.

    you probably have over 6 inches to work with in those tubes depending on what length rods you use. Do you have room to stagger them a little bit so the reels aren't all crowded into one spot? like 3 reels together, stagger, 3 more reels sitting "above" the others?

    Good idea and nice build. My only thought is the possibility of the caps opening toward the trailer could interfere with something loaded on the bed. I’d have had them open outward.

    Great vid. Again following this build and really like the concept. I am very picky about my rods n reels. I do a different type of fishing, so my gear is much larger and longer, which is why I will not be using the rod tubes. For this type of gear it is a good idea, and can see the use and benefit of it. Great job.

    I thought making some of those tubes, but I have seen story after story about folks just pull the screws from the non lid end a get themselves some free gear. I was thinking maybe rivers. Still would be easy enough get around but maybe a bit more of a deterrent. Also doubt my 8k spinning would fit...lol

    • @theupstateangler
      @theupstateangler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Safety screws with nylock nuts on the inside.... They would need a special bit to unscrew, and if they drilled the nylock nut would grab the screw and it would just spin, it would take a long time just to chew through one let alone three of them... I mean in all reality its just keeping honest people honest anyway....

Are you worried about any mildew or mold building up in the tubes and possibly getting on the rods n reels?

    Hey TJ, really liking your videos. I have a 12' trailer that I'm thinking about transforming into a camping/kayak trailer like yours. Do you have any concerns or thoughts about tongue weight after all your mods are complete? Liking all the mods that you've done soon far and really looking forward to seeing how you add air conditioning to your tent.

    • @KayakUSA1
      @KayakUSA1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks man, i’m not really concerned about the tongue weight because the trailer is already very light. Most of these utility trailers you can pick up and move by hand so adding a little bit of tongue weight actually helps it pull better down the highway. Not to mention when I add a heavy boat on the backend or the motorcycles or a four wheeler it will even out the weight pretty good. Good luck on your build and thanks for watching mine. 🤙🏼

    • @andrewwood2110
      @andrewwood2110 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If someone wanted what was inside I would imaging a good se of bolt cutters to cut the u bolts and just take the entire tube. Then the could take their time cutting into them in the privatize their own garage. Would be much quicker to make four snips and throw both in the back of a truck.

    • @t3angling575
      @t3angling575 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewwood2110, I have given this particular issue a lot of thought. I've seen rod tubes, rod lockers, etc, some like Yakima, or DIY. No matter where it is in the vehicle, if someone is going to steal, they will find a way. For me, I have a fair amount invested in my rods n reels. I do a different type of fishing, and the gear is bigger. So, really there is no solution I can come up with that will stop a thief, so I just carry them in a soft padded bag, made for them, and keep them in the truck. If I stay at a hotel, or camping they stay with me in the room, or truck. Sounds kind of crazy, but they are an investment, and without them I cannot do what I do, the way I do it. Great point.
