I stopped Chloe ting because I didn’t think her workouts were very effective, purely because she doesn’t explain how to actually engage very well during the workouts, and they didn’t make me feel like my strength was improving. Madfit actually explains how to engage your muscles correctly, and I felt like I was getting a far better workout on shorter videos.

I began with Chloe Ting and NEVER noticed results, that as a young person really messed with me (and my mental health). I thought I was doing something wrong because I didn't manage to get abs in two weeks, or slim legs in 10 days (i did her workouts for a lil bit more than a year), but about 3 months ago I discovered Move with Nicole and her pilates videos have completely changed my life. I've seen more results with Nicole in 3 months than i did with chloe in a year.

I honestly learned so much from just this 10-minute video. a while back I used to do Chloe Ting workout videos because I was super insecure with my body weight. I never got results because I would literally eat a 2000 calorie cheeseburger right before and wonder "why hasn't 20 squats a day helped me lose weight?" . the moment I actually started seeing results, wasn't from youtube influencers, it was from educating myself and seeking professional help. I stopped putting deadlines on myself, such as "if I don't lose 30 LBS in 2 weeks, I'm quitting". I educated myself on calories and went on small 30 minute walks every day. most of all stopped comparing myself to other people who I've never even met in my life. I've lost almost 25 lbs since July 20th. It's a slow process but I'm comfortable with that. don't let diet culture control you, just do what you love and what's healthiest for you.

Worst one for me - 'How to get rid of hip dips'.
You Can't. It doesn't work like that. It's the shape and position of your bones.
And that's something I wish my younger self knew about and wasn't lied to by all these 'fitness gurus'. Because I spent soo much time and so much pain doing exercises that would 'get rid' of my 'awful' hip dips. Even at a BMI of under 18.5, I still had them and couldn't figure out why... it really messed me up.
Looking at these influencers now I can clearly see that a) their body shape naturally doesn't have hip dips because there's less space between the top of the femoral bone and the iliac crest (aka anatomy) . Or b) they actually have hip dips but on the 'after' photos or poses they pose with theit butt sticking out, drawing their hips and knees inwards, which creates a perfect hourglass shape + a thigh gap. So in both cases, the exercises have done nothing, and in the second - they just create an illusion.
I wish more young girls become aware of that and stopped comparing themselves to these influencers like I did back in the day. It's just embarrassing to think that these women openly lie to their audiences about such sensitive things... all of that for the likes and views.

Unrelated, but also somewhat related, I wish there were a variety of body types as models/influencers, not just skinny girls with small bone structures. I'm certainly not fit yet, but I don't have any idea how I might look if I were more fit. It's physically not possible for me to be THAT small, I have wide hips (as in, my bones are wide) and my genetics have apparently decided I will have DD boobs that don't go away even when I start losing fat. I'm not aiming for super skinny and lean anyway because I embrace my figure, I just want to lose the extra fat I gained during covid and get stronger in all areas. The next difference is that I seem to just be very meaty, whether it's fat or muscle. I can build muscle very quickly, but it can also turn to fat easily if I don't try hard to maintain it. It just seems like everyone already had a skinny structure down to their bones, and I know that "fit" for me probably doesn't look like that unless I nearly starve myself, but I don't really know what it would look like. I think a lot of people see anything other than small as "fat," when that isn't neccesarily true. I hope that changes in the future. And I dont mean clearly obese people, just people who have different body types. Big bone structure, small bone structure, people like me who walk a thin line between gaining muscle or fat, and people who seemingly never gain fat. They're all legitimate body types with their own struggles and strengths, and there's not one ideal look given their differences

I think even when influencers don’t specifically sell their bodies as what you’ll get if you do the workout, it’s no surprise that the influencers with most naturally traditionally ‘desirable’ body types are the most successful. Lily Sabri, for example, who I am very fond of, has the MOST incredible figure. I could work out with lily every day, eat what she eats but the fact is that at any size she has unusual body proportions that I won’t ever have. Obviously her fitness and diet means she looks as perfect as she ever could, but the raw materials she has to work with are not what most people have. But people don’t think like that - they see her figure and think they really will look just like her. If you look at someone like Sydney Cummings, who has a third of her following, but in my opinion a much better workout system, she will never be as famous as lily because her natural body shape isn’t the goal that Lily’s followers have in their head.

I used to follow Lilly but then I watched Justina’s review and it actually opened my eyes to the clickbait titles, as well as a more functional and better way to train, so I stopped.
Although I still like Lilly’s Pilates workouts since she is a Certified Pilates Instructor, I gravitate more towards Sydney Cummings because I never think about aesthetic goals when I’m training with her, only getting stronger, fitter, and better in every session I show up to.
If people were to ask me a recommendation, I’d always say Sydney Cummings.

Yes!! I agree so much!! But also, am I the only one who doesn't reallllly fancy Lilly's figure? She seems to have very little upper body strength compared to her lower body but since that's the physique that's "in" right now and that most girls/women want she does nothing to address that. To me that's not what fitness should really be about.

If women SPECIFICALLY spent less time worrying about how they’ll ‘look like a man’ and cared more about building long-term mobility and better posture and overall strength, Orthopaedic surgeons would have less work. I rather have a strong back, core and be mobile enough not to need my own hands to push myself up off the ground than fuss about ‘losing my curves. Not everybody is built for the bodybuilder life. It’s hard, and it’s stressful. But everyBODY has the right to a straight posture and the lack of need for a walker as they age.

So instead I focused on rounding my glutes out (hip thrusts with two 45lb weights each side, donkey kicks and pulses and fire hydrants) and it helps. I went from 36% body fat to 30% my goal is 23%. I do have a lot of fat around the lower abdomen area which stretches out to the hips, hoping that'll improve upon the look of the hip dips. CARDIO!

Oh my God this really annoys me as well!! They do these (typically hiit i find) 7 days a week workouts and I'm like well you really do need rest days to recover! And for your mental health! Rest is sooo important and underrated... and also just listening to your body like there's a difference between being a bit unmotivated but knowing you'll feel better and being glad you did a workout and between really just being too tired or whatever it is and taking a rest day even if it was "unplanned". If you're mostly consistent in doing your workouts/ moving your body it really won't make a huge difference anywa and will be better for you if you listen to what your body needs on that particular day.
I've also seen the phrase "Never miss a Monday" thrown around a few times recently which really bothers me. Yes, maybe it sets you up well for the week but say you work out 4 x per week typically then it doesn't matter at all if you do your first workout of the week on Monday or Tuesday!
I too find these clickbaity titles pretty horrible and misleading especially since they often reach vulnerable audiences... and as most people here in the comment sections only do Sydney's and Caroline's workouts but mostly just Sydney's! She's just the best all around in my opinion, so genuine and well-meaning, amazing personality, videos, speeches and dances at the end haha!

I started with Chloe Ting but eventually I just needed more of a challenge. Chloe’s videos were fine and I did see a bit of results. I knew the titles were clickbait and didn’t expect to look like her at the end, but I totally get what you’re saying about how they shouldn’t be making those clickbait promises in the first place. I started looking around and found Sydney Cummings and I’m sooo happy I did. I’m being pushed way more than I was with Chloe, and while Chloe was my initial exposure into exercising more frequently, I’ve found I’m way more consistent with exercising and also seeing more results with Sydney. She doesn’t talk about calories or spot reduction which I’ve found has really helped me focus on exercising for my own health and not for losing weight. I love her positivity!!

Honestly i 100% agree with you, titles like that (get abs in 2 weeks, lose 10 cm of thigh fat, etc) the only thing that causes (in most cases) is making people feel bad about themselves, cause it's obviously not possible to achieve what they're promising (again, in most cases), so people do those 2 week challenges and then don't get the results they thought they were going to get and then they start to think "what is wrong with me?", "why can't i achieve this? if this youtuber/influencer says i can do it, then why i couldn't?". And a lot of people love to defend these influencers saying that they're helping people be more active and stuff like ???? what do you know about how active people were before doing the exercises/challenges/whatever? or how doing those impacted their lives? Literally all of this misinformation harms more than it helps, people can start to become obsessive about getting certain results, leading to overexercising or even not eating enough. I know these aren't 100% the influencers' fault and that they aren't 100% responsible for it, but at the same time we gotta admit that they play an important role in this, just instead of "get abs in 2 weeks", have "abs workout", and that's it. But of course that won't get them 400 million views...

I started doing workouts last year during covid where I dived into the world of clickbaity workouts.. I did lose weight and got a bit skinnier but I never felt physically stronger. I stopped for about 9 months, where then I learned that only cardio workouts that raise your heartrate could actually help lose fat. After trying workouts from Heather, fitness with ty and Caroline, i noticed i am fitter and stronger. Now I workout predominantly for health, of course for appearance as well but i no longer see myself wanting results in 14 days lol

i did get abs within 2 week of doing pamela reifs workout .
BUT, let me put this into perspective. im 16 , 143 pounds , 5 feet 8 inches . as long as i can remember , (8th grade or so up wards ) i have always had abs . (except for that time in 6th grade when i got dengue and the meds made my weight gain and loss very rapid and unsettling) .this is bc my mum put me in karate when i was 5 years old . i grew up boxing , doing nunchuks, butterfly swords , sticks etc . not to mention , swimming , cycling and basketball. i hated sports outside of these things , especially in school . this meant that i was regularly training throughout my whole life for tournaments and karate exams, and eating really well , as my mom knew what i needed to keep up with all of this . but come 2020 , the pandemic struck . my school work increased exponentially ,and karate and sports took a backseat , my fitness also decreased , due to lack of physical exercise . may of 2021 , i decided enough was enough , and wanted to get back to karate . ( at this point , abs are almost completely gone ) so i started cycling(an hour or so everymorning) , an hour of running in the night and doing a couple of pamela reifs workouts per day . i was surprised at how quickly my fitness levels returned. 2 weeks later , i was nearly back to my oringinal shape , but not at my original strength . these workouts may whip you up into shape ,(sometimes they dont even do that) but they dont make you stronger . so i suggest take the time to slowly biuld up , that will be better than these sorta quick fixes ( if they even work for u)

Resistance train (lift weights) to gain muscle.
Do cardio to burn calories/increase cardiovascular health. Basically find a form of cardio you like, I like rowing or elliptical because it doesnt cause joint pain (its low impact but still burns a lot of calories)
When it comes to who I watch for weightlifting exercises, again find your favourite exercise for each major muscle and do that one :)

Honestly, the whole "bUt tHeRe Is A dIsClAImER!!!111" debate reminds me of the fine print in scammy advertisements. We will say that this pill boosts your metabolism and then we’ll put the fine print, stating that there is a herbal extract that has a 0,0000138% chance of boosting your metabolism, according to that one study. Oh, you didn't read the fine print? But it's there!
So what if there’s a disclaimer?! These people are still doing the shitty thing. Also, do you really think that 13 year olds with body image issues, that search “flat stomach exercises” on TH-cam, really read or care about some hidden disclaimers? Or that your fave did a disclaimer in that other video, “you just need to watch a full playlist and read on her site”? Seriously?
I also will never understand why people act so culty when someone gives constructive criticism about their favourite influencer. Like, I, for example, love Caroline Girvan’s workouts, but I do agree with some critiques about her program (e.g. it being too quad focused, etc).
I personally never click on anything that says “Hourglass body in two weeks” or “Toned thighs”, because it feels like the person, who posted the video, just called me an idiot to my face, and I don’t appreciate that.
Influencers are not your friends. They make money off you. Stop being so offended on their behalf.

As someone with a history of restriction wo has been weightlifting for 1-2 years now and has also been able to finally just eat what I want, I cannot understand why women fear muscles. this fear is DEFINITELY being kept alive by fitfluencers who wanna make more money.
