Glad I found this video. I noticed my MX8 Elite running in circles and found one of the tracks was off. They had worn and stretched to the point of failure after one full year. So far that is the only part I've had to replace. I inspected everything while I had it out to replace the tracks and everything worked as it should.
Your expertise made it simple for me to service my MX8 Elite - thank you for taking the time to make an excellent video and HELPER for the pool owners. God Bless You.
Bro, you just saved me at least $400... Get yourself a coffee on me. This pool cleaner is awesome. Ours is easily eight years old and these spare part remedies keep it working like new.
This video is definitely getting bookmarked. Pool season is just starting for me this year and I think I have something stuck in my MX8 Elite as both tracks turns, but every so often there is extra resistance turning it, this video will make it easier to tear apart and troubleshoot. Thanks.
Great video. I'm trying to unscrew the cyclone part because a small wire was in the pool and got stuck under the cyclone wheel. How do you get that off? Thanks for the video!
Thank you for the video. I had a problem with slowness and going in circles. I changed both directional controls, engine, and bearings. When I rehooked it up, the circular cleaning blades are not moving at all. Plenty of pressure. Spun regularly before changing parts out. Any suggestions? Much appreciated. What did I do? Reply
Hi, my MX-8 Elite is not working. I suspect it's the drive shaft because I recently replaced both gear boxes. After removing the engine housing cover, I see the drive shaft "popping" out when I spin the fan/turbine on the bottom to test the tire movement. Is the drive shaft "popping" out because I removed the engine housing cover? Is it even normal for the drive shaft to "pop" out at all? In addition, are the bearings suppose to slide off when I'm holding the drive shaft in a downward position? I've heard the bearings "click" on so I'm not sure if they're suppose to easily slide off when I'm holding the drive shaft in a downward position? Your response on this is greatly appreciated.
Do the wheels or wheel bearings ever need to be replaced? I can't find any videos relating to the wheel replacement. One side of my mx8 elite, it seems like the wheels are wobbly but the other side isn't that way.
I like how they made it so modular, but I dont like how much they charge per part. On my MX8 Elite, I haven't even had it a year and had multiple parts wear out. Luckily it's all been under warranty.
I have a MX8 Elite and it has been running for 6 years, never had to replace anything. Now it just stopped working, or will work for an hour or two and stop. I have noticed one side (left when facing it) seems to jam and stop after a partial turn in either direction. The other rotates easily in both directions a full turn. So I have decided to just replace and rebuild the entire thing. Total cost is about $130 from what I have found online. I did notice that when you turned the turbines on the old v the new one... much quieter on the new. This tells me the body itself may be wearing also, so parts don't sit as tightly. I noticed this on the middle underlying piece the drive shafts (the rotating flaps) sit in. On the right side there is wear and it seems the screws may be scraping the body.
Another issue that may occur if the mx8 stops moving is when the middle assembly seals are worn down. Unfortunately, you can't buy just the seals. You need to buy the entire middle assembly.
I bought my MX8 elite 6 months ago on your recommendation and I never regret that choice. It's the cleanest my pool has ever been . With season changing, I have to do a "heimlich" once in a while as it swallows too much leaves and palm seeds, but skimming with the net helps a lot. My MX8 still run like the day I bought it. For interest, how long was the mx8 in the video running before the major service?
This is actually an original MX8 and I converted it to an ELITE by adding the Turbines with the brushes. So it is over 9 years old. The Directional Devices after 2 years. The Engine after 3, the Turbines were replaced 3 years ago and the driveshaft just wore out after 9 years. It has had 3 sets of Directional Devices and of course a few tracks. I am going to say like the Hayward Navigator you can rebuild this cleaner until the body wears out. 👍
@@SPL Me again... :) When you say the body wears out, what parts, or you mean the whole casing cracking or something? My MX8 is in about the same shape as the one you repaired. Is it worth replacing parts or splurging on a new MX6 ( mx8 is big for my 10k gal pool)
I replaced all the weird parts on my MX8 Elite and now one of the rubber tracks keeps coming off alignment from the wheel, even though the tracks, the motors, the bearing paddles and both shafts are all brand new. Can anyone please give me some advice on how to address this issue?
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To - SPL If you are referring to the rubber tracks, I thought the same thing, so I had an extra set of brand new tracks and I changed them and it’s still doing the same thing. Now I I’ve noticed that the side that is coming off track, the small black motor gear that grabs the inside of the rubber track seems to be making rubber track jump ever time it grabs the little notches along the inside of the tracks. This is only happening on side, the other side doesn’t jump or come out of alignment.

Thank you! I was able to successfully perform the rebuild and my little pool monster now climbs the walls again! Great video!

It sounds like the engine vanes are getting hung up. Recheck that part.

The popping is normal. The bearings slide off pretty easy as well. The engine might be bad.
@@SPL Thank you for your response. When you say "engine," you are referring to the middle piece correct?
@@RemyXWong yes
@@SPL Thank you. I ordered the tune up kit so I'm going to replace all the parts.

No bearings in the physical wheel. Check to make sure everything is screwed in tightly.

That is a bit unusual. The parts usually last linger than that. Glad it is under warranty for you. 👍

What happens when your tracks are new but one of them keeps working itself off?

Too bad. But I see some logic in changing entire parts out.
Great video but I was looking for a video that showed me how to replace the main body. I had an axel break on a bottom wheel.
Haven't had to do that. According to schematics you just take everything off.
Everything except replacing the lid which I need. I assume it just snaps on and off.
Yes, it should be easy. Never done it though.

Can you put the scrubbers from the elite to the regular model?
Yes/ You would just need this part to convert it over: Cyclonic Scrubbing Kit R0714300 For ZODIAC Robotic Pool Cleaner MX8 & MX8 Elite

I wonder if the track is somehow defective.

How to rebuild direction device
Has to be replaced.
Thanks
My husband has replaced all parts but it still won’t move while in the pool.
Check to see if the middle house assembly seals is still in tact. This caused my machine to stop moving completely
Why are you simply rebuilding it? Why not make it bigger, faster, and stronger. A true robot warrior.
There you go! 👍
How do you get to the clear part how to you disassemble the unit to get to the clear part
That is part of the frame if you are talking about the clear shielding.
@@SPL Yes. How does that clear shield on MX8 Elite get removed to clean out the sediments inside? Is there a video?
