SoCal legends Sleeping Giant have announced their final album.
Sleeping Giant are bringing it home to Facedown Records to say goodbye with their final album “I Am,” set to release January 26.
Vocalist Tommy Green reflects on the past 12 years:
For me personally this band has been such an important and special gift in my life that I needed to know that I was actually at a point where I could let go and move on. I didn’t want to feel grief like there was something unexpressed, unsaid, or undone in me; I didn’t want to feel like I was selling myself out. This band has become the private journal made public of the story of my life. It is one of the most important things I have ever done.
It’s crazy and beautiful and hard and awesome and cathartic and creative all at the same time. I thank God for hardcore. I have been able to express my passion and my pain over the last 12 years.
At Facedown Fest 2016 we talked to JD and asked him if he would consider helping us to say goodbye. We wanted to finish where we started and show respect and honor for the label that helped us get our first exposure and created space for us to grow at home in Southern California. Stepping away from Facedown and becoming a traveling band and working with so many others, it became evident that there is something really special about Facedown; honestly this is just such a gift for the FD crew to be willing to take this on as a last project.
Our last show will be 12 years to the date of our first back home where we began.
I couldn’t and wouldn’t have done this, risked speaking and sharing my personal story without all of the people that have made this band: Massive Matt, Travis Boyd, Cory Johnson, Geoff Broullete, Eric Gregson, Matt Weir, Ryan Gregson, JR Bermuda, Nelson Flores, Lazarus Rios, Blake Hardman, Andrew Minervini, and Andrew Glover. Respect for your sacrifices and for your gifts and talents and efforts. You are all a part of Sleeping Giant.

Russell: I’ve been a fan of Sleeping Giant since 2007 and one of my very favorite music memories is watching them play a midnight set at Cornerstone Fest in 2008. Fast forward to summer 2014 and SG took my band on one of our first coast-to-coast tours.
Tommy’s kingdom mindset has been a massive inspiration on my work, and it was amazing to collaborate with him on No Love. Enjoy, Lovers.

I don't understand this. Same with For Today. I mean, I can understand, when the band needs more time for family (like For Today explained), but the work these bands do is so insane important that I can't faith they end the band.
Why not just make a break? Or take it slow?
Beside Fit for a King and For Today - Sleeping Giant was the only band which uses clear words of praise God. Maybe I just listen to the wrong tracks, but ABR or Demon Hunter, for example, are far more implicit.
SoundTek / Cry Posthuman I think it has less to do with being tired or needing a break and more of just wanting closure. Wanting to have an end result. I know that Tommy and Eric still do a lot of ministry work. They're not stopping their mission. It's just the chapter of their lives that is Sleeping Giant is finally at a point where it's time to close it.

Yes, that could be the thing and I see, why you are probably right. The thing is, I am a christian since I can think - with all the highs and lows and I am listening metal also since a long time. However, bringing that together is happen not that long ago and it is mostly happen with Sleeping Giant. Maybe that's why it's so hard to accept that!?

Jason LovesABR Sonny does have really good vocals. I wish he would've. I'm not sure it's kinda far from me vs when they played in Ocala, which was amazing! Plus I'm in nursing school but I'm hoping I will unless that add another closer FL date
Oh man, this is it then, huh? Sleeping Giant's final bow. There's something somber about it, like saying goodbye to an old friend. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. What an incredible group of musicians with a message that has produced such a strong feeling of longing and desire for Christ's love. Even now with this single, I can see that the SG feel is still there. I don't care if it's as heavy as Finished People. I don't care if they even hit all of the points a hardcore/metal band is supposed to hit. They sound like themselves and that's all I can ask for. Super excited to be able to experience the full album!

It's a shame this is the end for you guys. Because this song is more applicable today, in 2023, more and more, for us as Christians. than people realize. It's a constant reminder of what we need to focus on.

Agora com quase 30 anos eu não fico mais triste por uma banda que eu gosto muito encerras suas atividades.
Fico feliz pelo tempo que se dedicaram no evangelho dentro do hardcore/metal e tenho certeza que como eu amadureci em algumas coisas esse é o tempo que eles amadureceram para seguirem em frente de outras maneiras como disse o Tommy na descrição.

conheci essa banda em 2014 e só fiquei sabendo que acabou agora shajhajh mas acontece, a banda sem dúvidas era a minha favorita no estilo, caso ainda não conheçam, recomendo a banda Unlife, banda BR boa pra caramba.

Enrique Juarez Totally. I bought a plane ticket and flew to Dallas for the first one. Sleeping Giant was always on my list to see, and with only 2 shows my chances were running out.

I love that you guys have always spoken the truth in your lyrics, and this song continues that tradition. I'm excited for this album, but a little sad it's the last.
Great message: they will not care how much you know until they know how much you care. Every song SG has put out has brought me to tears, not sure if it is more of the raw/real lyrics or that Tommy, Geoff, and the others actually live what they believe. Feb 17th will be bittersweet for sure.
