Something I change in my resto’s of the it-28…I move the heavy 10w resistor from the wafer switch to a remote mount on the other side of the chassis where the 2.0 Mylar is located. Then the Mylar can be moved away from the hot tubes and wired directly to the power factor pot and selector switch pins. I also use a 10w 47k resistor and a 5w 33k resistor to clean up the power supply section. Fewer parts. Nice and clean.

I have one of those, works great! I refurbished mine, had to replace all the capacitors, resistors were good, so were the tubes.

The dual primaries xfmr is one of the things that make these IT28/IT11 units awesome. Its a shame more gear from the day didn't come like that. I'll always have 120V and 240V capabilities at my bench, but I much rather have native support for 240V.
All of these 1950s/60s vintage gear is a joy to collect and refurbish. Built like tanks, and def lasts when well looked after.

I remove the 10W cement resistor from the delicate and irreplaceable wafer switch and remote mount them on the other side of the chassis where the 2.0uF cap is currently mounted. Then, I move the 2.0 uF Mylar cap directly wired between the selector switch and the power factor pot. I use one, 10w 47k resistor in the power section and a 5w 33k resistor. That really cleans up the unit.

Hi, I'm curious why you said the values might be effected by the valve?
Unless the component is connected across the heater/filament pins there should be no influence by the valve/tube while turned off.
I guess you are thinking maybe a faulty valve shorted internally which is possible but not very likely.
What I've found with these units is those 2 electrolytic caps are always very leaky and need to be changed.
They will often blow the fuse they are so bad.
    Thanks.

I got lucky and managed to score a Wayne Kerr 6425 for about 200 euros all in (auction so auction costs, transport etc).
That should be a big help if it works, army surplus so..

The heyco tool is the correct one for the strain reliefs.
The Chinese tool does not work.

You're correct Chris. You might have a hard time finding an original Heyco though.

@@danishnative9555 I found a used excellent condition Heyco #29 set on eBay at an affordable $25 a few months ago. I had been watching for one about a year. They are available new currently for $70 on Amazon in Los Angeles.
