Man this song is so magical. The instrumental is as gorgeous as always, so are Molly's vocals (to a point where both almost synchronize in an infinitely satisfying way) and all of that is pulled together by the whiplash of the lyrics painting an atmosphere of absolute tragedy. A masterpiece. Love Alvvays.

I fail to get the meaning of these lines. I only get the idea that she's somehow indifferent. Because she speaks of losing her love yet she seems to be dancing everywhere.
There's some really beautiful moments here: when the hands spin across the screen as she says "I lost his hand in the current", when the bridge comes and the snare pops just so, and again when the instruments die off for the final chorus and she sings so lovely. This music is so heartfelt it's dug its way into my heart.

I think it's about a boy she liked and who liked her but he wasn't mature enough to handle the relationship so she had to leave him. Alternatively the lyrics could be a nod to her celtic folk upbringings. Young lovers drowning is a common theme in celtic folk music.

No entendia mucho el ingles pero pensaba de que la cancion hacia referencia a que habia terminado una relacion con su pareja y en la cancion lo estaba recordando sentada junto a unos arboles. Luego me entere de lo que le paso y encontre la letra subtitulada y correctamente interpretada, entonces todo cobro sentido, me quede impactado de lo maravilloso que Alvvays convierte el sentimiento de nostalgia en una musica con ritmo y asi cambia la forma de ver la tragedia que sufrio con su padre. I think it's about a boy she liked and who liked her but he wasn't mature enough to handle the relationship so she had to leave him. Alternatively the lyrics could be a nod to her celtic folk upbringings. Young lovers drowning is a common theme in celtic folk music.
@@Elfwald nicely put. I do believe it was him drowning. But a nice way of looking at it is. I left him like she had to break up with him and know she’s free and happy away from him. Because he was so immature and not mature enough for her. I totally prefer your interpretation and I love it a lot more then the drowning one. 👌

Conurbano They're so modern and cutting edge! Reminds me of how I was blown away when the videos for Blue Da Ba Dee and With Arms Wide Open came out.
No entendia mucho el ingles pero pensaba de que la cancion hacia referencia a que habia terminado una relacion con su pareja y en la cancion lo estaba recordando sentada junto a unos arboles. Luego me entere de lo que le paso y encontre la letra subtitulada y correctamente interpretada, entonces todo cobro sentido, me quede impactado de lo maravilloso que Alvvays convierte el sentimiento de nostalgia en una musica con ritmo y asi cambia la forma de ver la tragedia que sufrio con su padre. Me encanto el grito del final junto con todo el video, me hace llorar. Grande Alvvays.
