Bit belated but great video, even from the thumb nail i could tell it was Whitby. I have bad memorys of playing with my Tamiya Bear hawk on Redcar beach, lost reception and off it took to the sea, lept into the water and started to paddle off to Norway!! Never ran again due to the salt water, just sits on the shelf now.
Thanks for watching, Whitby beach is a great place for driving RC cars. The salt water got into my Sand Scorcher gearbox and destroyed the bearings but I just rebuild and like new again.
@@stugreen5334 just wanted to ask that question about the salt water, a friend of mine and me took ours to Allonby Beach in Cumbria and experienced the same problem (video available at my channel). It is so much fun to run them through the puddles, but salt water really is a killer. It even made the die cast parts turn white in some places. I restored my original with re released parts and the most stupid thing was to not seal these holes in the new plastic gearbox covers with a dollop of silicone. But a rebuilt with proper cleaning with white spirits and WD40 contact cleaner found no real harm other than to the bearings. Tried rubber sealed ones with great success. Complete set available for under £20. Great footage!
@Kontrolleuchte They are great fun driving on the beach 😁. I sealed my gearbox but salt water still got in and destroyed my gearbox. If I go to the beach and run in the water I always take the gearbox apart and clean it out, bit of a pain but I don't want to have to replace everything again.
@@stugreen5334 I opened mine up on return from the beach on the same day and found the bearings already shot. I think the water gets in on the driveshaft. I put some grease in with the bearings to seal it better but tolerances are just all over the place so I'll stay away from salt water puddles. How long would you say it takes you to disassemble, clean and reassemble the gearbox?
@@dingjs1969 I looked your car up and saw that it has the components quite out in the open - did the RC gear break or did the motor seize up or both? I had a bit of trouble losing reception due to corroded contacts of my battery pack of my 80ies RC gear
They hold up pretty well, the body will crack if it gets a hard impact but overall a fun car. Spares are relatively cheap and you can modify it easily.
Just built mine I see you have coilovers on the front what shocks did you use? I used Kyosho Scorpion shocks on mine but the coils have plastic retainers. Nice footage classic Box art Baja! ✌️😎👍
I don't actually remember now where those shocks came from, I have some better oil filled ones now that don't leak and work really well. I got them from RC Mart. Thanks for watching 😁👍
I had one of the originals when they were released. Sold it as a box of very well worn out parts about 10 years ago for a to of money. I have a few RC things now but a real hankering for one of the re-release Sand Scorchers. I don't need ridiculous speed bit that completely enclosed and waterproof battery box. Perfect for beach thrashing. I'm not sue how many modern buggies can do that.
My friend still has an original from way back in the 80's when a few of us had them. When the re-release came out j just had to get one. I have changed mine from standard quite a lot, it's always still fun to give it a run. You definitely should buy a re-release 😁😁
@@stugreen5334 you're going to cost me money, thanks a bunch :) I've seen Aluminium rear engine cage upgrade, new chassis plate and even a rear Diff! Which was a huge failure on the original, not having one It shredded the universal joints.
My pleasure on helping you spend your money 😁. Don't forget aluminium front bumper also 😁. I had to upgrade the plastic to a metal one because mine strip out a few times with the Extra power I put through it.
Surprising the whole car held itself together, looks like you did a number on this car and had a lot of fun doing. Nice little video but I'm sure there was quite a bit of work done even for a short clip.
Thanks for watching. Actually the crash at 1.05 cracked the roof slightly but it's my basher body so no probs. I have another good body for display purposes 😁😁
Hi Stu, great video I'm in Stockton-on -Tees so not that far from you and Whitby is a great run out for us, wanted to ask what uprated shocks/coilovers are you using?
Hi thanks for watching. The shocks you see on it were just some cheap ones I found on eBay if I remember correctly. They look good but didn't actually work that well. I have some oil filled ones now that actually work really well which I got from RC Mart. If you want to know the part numbers let me know and ill look them up for you.
The part numbers are DSG-0060SV 60mm Damper Set For 1/10 RC Off Road Car Tamiya GF01 WR02 Kyosho Beetle. XS-TA29007BK 70mm Aluminum Front Shock Damper For Tamiya TT02B If you look on RC Mart there might be different ones available since I got mine, might be worth a look. I also upgraded the standard chassis to all aluminium to reduce the flex. And moved the steering Servo to the front of the car.
I really hope to get one of these some day.
Such a great car.
Great video..
Thanks for watching, hope you get your Scorcher soon.
Awesome video excellent bashing with an awesome buggy
Thanks for watching 👍
Liked, subscribed and hit the bell. Sand scorchers on the beach is a lot of fun to watch.
Thanks for watching 😁. I will be checking your video's out.
Nice jumps, i like the suspension action on the car, RC the best hobby in the world.

Great angles! Cant wait to build mine one day

Is it with the standard engine?
Yes it's the standard motor when I made this video. The motor in it now is a Tamiya Torque Tuned motor.
