Yes, squeeze the bottom half (ink cartridge) gently and you can see the ink pour into the well above the bristles. This is how you use up the ink. I always hold my hand under the brush/bristles because twice I've squeezed to hard and the ink has overflowed and dripped out the bristles. I hope this helps and I hope you have a wonderful week!
I had to clean it even though it arrived brand new, because the ink flow was terrible even if I squeezed incredibly hard. Now that I've cleaned the entire pen (not including the ink cartridge) by soaking in water, it's working appropriately now.
