Sorry for the long story but I listen to your shows every single day (particularly your exhaustive coverage of The Warning), so here’s a little something back: I will always credit Rush for pulling me out of some bad times or possibly saving my life. 1977 started off as a bad year. My dad, my grandma and my dog died, my mom fell ill and I was trying to finish college and it wasn’t going well. Some complete fool convinced me I was an adult and should be listening to adult music so I put away all my prog rock heroes and had been following bluegrass and folk music for almost a year, meanwhile getting more deeply depressed, I was quite sure I was going to end up in the hospital. Then one night the local radio station played a whole album through that had just been released called Farewell to Kings by Rush. I’d never heard of them. I was completely changed. I felt like a new person. I felt optimistic for the first time in a year. The energy and beauty of that album turned everything around. Sounds absurd, but there you have it. Music changes lives. Discovering them (and the whole growing punk/new wave scene) totally killed the stagnation that had taken over my life. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that music doesn’t play a deep role in psychic well-being. I know you guys don’t need convincing. (I just looked up the release date of Farewell to Kings and it was my birthday, August 29, 1977 and that completely corroborates my memory of events.)
NP is used to being such a busy drummer that whenever there's a drumming break he tossed, flipped or twirled his sticks. YYZ (pronounced zed) is Pearson Toronto Airport.
Good Mornimg Guys, YYZ are the call letters for the Toronto International Airport. Alex was flying them back to Toronto when Geddy and Neil heard it and it stuck with them. Cool song and the Brazilian crowd's energy is second to none! Cheers
@@debbieplato5107 I remember watching an old documentary on the formation of the band and I remember Alex arguing with his dad about the band at the kitchen table when he was still in high school.
The first time I flew into Toronto, I kept my baggage claim tag just because it said YYZ on it. I lost it over several moves, but I'm going back in October to see The Warning, I'll get another.
Great reaction gents! Saw this tour - it was an amazing setlist! But that crowd reaction in Brazil - ONLY a bunch of football (soccer) fans such as this could 'sing' an instrumental! Didn't see that even here in Toronto! And yes, YYZ is the airport code for Toronto's Pearson International - Rush's home (and very close to mine). I never get tired of hearing this track - but you could tell here that they were having a wonderful time soaking up the energy! Alex being a goof, Geddy laying the best grooves...and Neil being, well, Neil! Agree it was also nice just hearing YYZ alone - Neil had his own solo later in the show. Cheers!
Usually whatever the newest instrumental is is where the insert the drum solo. My two favorites are where's my thing here it is and the solo during malignant narcissism.
I don't remember the source but the story is the washing machines are Geddy busting on Alex and balancing the stage. When house PAs improved Alex still insisted on keeping his wall of amps even thought they weren't needed so Geddy puts a variety of things on stage to balance the look. I think he had rotisserie chicken ovens on the Clockwork Angels tour.
The Rio crowd set the bar high for RYSH fans.
The crowd...making up lyrics/chants to an instrumental...what energy, passion and love for the band.
And that is MY people. Singing an instrumental and in perfect tune!🇧🇷🫡

Alex is a licensed pilot?
@@SDsailor7 Yes, and he has even flown a Canadian Airforce jet.
@@debbieplato5107 Wow! How long has he been a pilot?

He had the rotisserie ovens on the Snakes And Arrows Tour; he had a popcorn popper on the Clockwork Angels Tour.
Yes YYZ is the call letters for Toronto International AirPort
How many instrumentals get the crowd singing?
