    Spectacular interview. You can feel the passion and history through their voices. Clarko's reign could very well be the next significant chapter in the history of our club!

    I remember some of the old blokes who used to follow North back in the VFA days. When we won the flag in 1975 they were reduced to tears. During that summer the club organised a replay of it outside with a movie camera & white screen on field (don’t think we had VCR’s back then though the club released an LP with the call of the GF) and with a few coldies we relived every bump, every ball up, every free, every goal and by the end it was sweet relief, tears & a few more beer.
    Vale those old true blue shinboners who followed North for over 50 years and two leagues to finally grab a cup before they died. I was 20 & it has been the sporting highlight of my life. Nearly 50 years down the track I still get warm and fuzzy when I think about it & I usually watch it once every two or three years and relive it all.
    The late Brian ‘Skinny’ Martyn former player and Mick’s father was a neighbour so we got into the social club that night and when the players came in the cheers almost lifted the roof. We were up close to the podium set up for them but I was busting for a piss and the toilets were a fair way back from that vantage point. When I’d finished all the players were on the podium & I was stuck in the crowd by the dunny. I was devastated for a couple of minutes but the magnitude of the occasion brushed that away quickly.
    What a wonderful era it was for North and its long suffering supporters. It was history in the making and I was there with my father just as I was when we were getting flogged season in & season out. Bloody brilliant
    I write this a week after our young battlers got done by a point and tonight they got done by 3 points. The media wrote them off and had NMFC all but dissolved as an AFL club. Slowly and surely North will stick it up the media and other detractors. That’s Shinboner spirit. It’s not winning every match, it’s battling the odds and coming through and the club has always done that. NM is nowhere near dead & the kids will pick up a few wins from here on. It was great to see young Archer in action as well as the boys not backing down from the melee. They could do with a bit of old fashioned mongrel in them.

    Sensational interview NMFC. There is not much better than listening to stories about our glory days through the late 90's. Let's all hope we get back there soon 🔵⚪️

    I remember collecting beer cans at windy hill to stand on. Couldn't see a thing, but loved it. AFL has gone to shit since. Carey and Mckernan made North back then and deserve way more respect by this club.

    Made up for losing 98 we were definitely best team in 98, who knows what could’ve happened in 97 without injuries and I recon 94 could’ve maybe beaten West coast, but all if buts and maybe winning 1 is so hard let alone 2

      98 was bad memories. Adelaide supporters wanted to leave at half time and then with 15 minutes to go I had my beanie stollen and nearly strangled by my scalf. At least we never gave the GP back you SA dickheads..

    All the talk about pinching 1999.... why?
    North were the best team in 1998 and had a bad GF and lost....Noone ever says Crows pinched the flag, and who's to say essendon wouldn't have done the same thing and have a bad game had they made the GF? The proof is the fact they choked in the prelim final.
    Cats were best team in 2008..... Do Hawks claim they 'pinched' the 2008 flag? No
    Tigers best team in 2018.... Do the Eagles claim they 'pinched' the 2018 flag? No
    during the 1999 season North Only lost 5 games the whole season, 2 of which were margins of 2 and 6. Three of those losses came in the first 4 rounds of the season, from that point on north won 19 of 21 matches..... Essendon Only won 1 more home and away game compared to north but lost a game to melbourne who finished 14th that year...
    Yes North lost to essendon twice during the season.... as did carlton... who then beat essendon in the prelim final.... Since the AFL era began in 1990 the team that finished in first place on the ladder during the season has gone on and won the flag 12 times compared to other teams winning it from 2nd to 8th place 22 times....
    So Stop with this narrative of pinching the flag, north were the better team for longer and when it counted. Period.

      Dennis says Let's not make excuses. Fair enough. Sheedy on the other hand, is the king of excuses. He reckons North stole the flag from Essendon in '99.....if they were so perfect that year, why couldn't they beat Carlton in the finals? And who told Dean Wallis he was good enough to run and have a bounce and take on a tackle? LOL And Sheedy reckons the 1 PT loss to Sydney in '96 cost Essendon a flag.....on what basis? Does he think all the North team would have slept in and missed the game???? Have another flagon of claret, Kev!!

    If they were the best side in the comp by a mile they would have beaten carlton and won the grand final
    But they weren't good enough
    North Melbourne were the best side in the comp in 99

  • @thebob3712

    Pagans paddock is no longer a thing, todays footy is more like a rugby scrum, both sides are huddled inside the 50mtr arc, how many times do you see a player getting the ball and their initial response is to look behind because no one is in front of the ball, game is almost unwatchable these days

    • @maximillianford9301
      @maximillianford9301 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's impossible to enact that sort of gameplan nowadays because of the players' endurance levels. Where before, defensive pressure levels were laughable and the game almost amateurish, now the players look like professionals. Those bygone eras had some absolutely incredible individual brilliance, no doubt about it, but whenever I watch a game from those times, I'm struck by how fucking easy it was to move the ball up-field. I'd rather have a product that doesn't look like it could be from a ressies league game, and that's exactly what we have now. Makes winning all the sweeter because you know the whole team has to put in a mountain of effort to outlast the opposition

    • @thebob3712
      @thebob3712 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@maximillianford9301 yeah you never lived through that era so your comparison doesn't mean anything, what they want from players these days is athleticism, beep tests, how far they can run, some of the players today do not have the football skills to be playing at AFL level. Look at how many kicks go backwards in a game, go watch soccer if that's what you want. You like that every player, 36 of them are in the 50m arc? shitshow and todays "footy" is nothing compared to the 90s where players had skill.
