Mate top video. I am doing the water pump and radiator hoses on my Mazda tribute it has exact same engine and almost exact same setup. I am a little concerned now as I didnt buy the whole pump assembly just the pump so fingers crossed my plastic hasnt failed. I havent had any major issues its just preventative maintenance. Two excelllent tips I got from you were the non tensioner belt issue and the flexible hose clamp. Saved me some frustration there. Anyways thanks for the video, good work.

My dad was a mechanic and spent a lot of time on me when I was growing up. I've been doing it my whole life. I've been doing it unsupervised/independently for 27 years.

I think I would have been reluctant to do this job myself without this video tutorial. It was a huge help. Thank you for posting! Wish I could find a video on how to do a coolant flush and fill. I'm unclear on how to burp the system. And apparently there's a valve for the rear heat, too.

you can remove the belt by rolling a flat head screw driver between the top pully and the belt. you have to crank the motor so pull the fuel pump relay in the engine bay fuse box. start the car while clear of engine to make sure it uses all the fuel left in the lines. Once it dies crank it again just to double check that it won't start up when you're removing the belt. then have a buddy crank it a little at a time while you put the screw driver between the belt and pully, kinda lift on the screw driver as it rotates and it will slip on or off easier. Replace fuel pump relay.
or just cut the belt to begin with and buy a new one to only have to worry about putting on a belt and to have a new belt on there is smart.

So, Mazda uses a lot of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene and anti-freeze (from the factory) that dissolves ABS... great engineering Mazda... bravo.

GM Dex-cool is supposed to be a long term coolant that preserves the lining/coating in GM water jackets. Never mind the fact it eats ABS plastic parts. When you use Ethylene Glycol (Green antifreeze) in with it, it just strips that anti-corosive ABS protecting coating. (the crud in your tank.)

If it's in the budget- yes! If not, no. Lately I've been doing some charity work for people- super low cost stuff, but I don't want to go broke myself.

Hey, look, since the auto manufacturers have to actually provide some rust resistance in the body work nowadays, they gotta find SOMETHING to corrode and fall apart so you have to buy a new vehicle.
I'm just amazed they said "Screw it" to metal parts and instead figured out a way to make plastic "rust". :D

I see that all the time. Dexcool definately eats the ABS plastic components. It makes them extremely brittle. The intake manifold gaskets are based out of ABS.

  • @sailorbob74133
    @sailorbob74133 ปีที่แล้ว

The reason for all that check ABS plastic is emissions regulations - plastic is way lighter than metal so it increases fuel efficiency by a fraction of a percent to meet government regulations.

Awesome video, thanks so much for this helpful video. I have the same exact same problem. The same exact stupid part failed on my water pump too. At first, I went to all the parts shop looking for the piece of @#*@# that fail. Nope, dumb stupid engineer won't make or sales just that part. You'll have to buy the whole damn water pump. Damn FORD ("found on road dead"). Just order my part and this video will come in so handy once the part arrive.

    Howdy Brian and Spanky,
    Happy New Year to you!
You said that the coolant in there eats up the ABS parts, I'm guessing the green cool-aid you're using is 'conventional' silicate based inorganic buffered antifreeze, but have you found that OAT or HOAT based to be better or worse with respect to that? I switched out from a silicate to an OAT (used car) for the supposed extended life, and that it's the factory coolant (Toyota).
BTW have you resolved your camera situation?
    Thank you!

hey brian, you probably already know about this, but my dad got myself and the rest of his guys a really nice rechargable torch (we do alot of crankcase work on large diesels) i should do a tool review really. But i bring this up mainly because it has a UV LED function and its supposed to be for checking leakage from the dye they put in antifreeze. You ever used something like this?

why not just remove the bolts on the pump and pull it out. i never remove the pump housing on any 3.0 (mvp, tribute, 6, escape) i would say try to remove as little as possible. never had a come back that way. great video.. just my 2 cents

    • @genericusername1365

In this case it was the ABS plastic connected to the pump housing that was leaking, so he had to pull the whole assembly out.
