    They don't understand that privacy of data is the employees responsibility. Not the public's responsibility to "not look at it".

    • @RichardHartley65
      @RichardHartley65 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s about balancing risks against the costs - financial and operational - of dealing with those perceived risks. It is the civic responsibility of citizens to act appropriately. If “audits” include the use of specialist equipment that gives someone access to records that no one would otherwise see, then public bodies will have to start taking drastic measures. For example, should organisations start to implement privacy measures that anticipate the use of telephoto lenses or drones to view items through windows? Do we want our taxes spent on that kind of thing? Do we really want windowless ground floors in all public and commercial premises?

    • @Leepercomm
      @Leepercomm ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RichardHartley65 It is the responsibility of the data handler to keep said unattended data present in any situation where the public might see it. Notice I say "unattended". If they walk away from that data it needs to be secured. If their on a computer for example that screen needs to not be visable in a manor that may be viewed by they public in any manor. Hard copy on a desk, potentially visible by the public, should not be left in such a state while nobody is at said desk.

    • @RichardHartley65

      @@Leepercomm - I’m aware of the data protection laws. The question I have for you is as stated previously: do you want all public buildings and commercial premises to have to block out windows in case someone pokes a telephoto lens at them? What about upper floors where a drone could potentially film something? Should we turn all those buildings into windowless bunkers? Because ‘auditors’ will keep escalating in order to get clicks, that’s pretty clear. Auditors don’t just act like a normal visitor to a building. So the precautions required to prevent an auditor viewing something are likely to be disproportionate.

      @@RichardHartley65 There are many different type of window coverings that allow light in and alow those inside to see out but prevents anyone from the outside to see in. Hence your argument about any drone or telephoto lenses is a mute point. You've heard of two way mirrors? The same can be done with windows but still allow ligh to enter. The other, and more common method, is to use a dark tint. Haven't you ever seen tall buildings where an aircraft flying by has its tefection on the windows of the building?

    Today I was walking past 2 officers who arrested some lass, who then shouted to me “take a photo it will last longer” so I began filming her and the female office told me to carry on walking and not film, I politely rejected for her to then say you can’t record this. Thanks to AB I know I can, I told her I can and I will as she’s no right to stop me. She soon shut up and backed off 🤣 why do officers think they can stop public filming in public… deluded liars. When starting out as a street photographer, I found it so difficult to take pictures of scenes with people for fear of making anyone uncomfortable. I accept that being specifically made the direct subject of a photographer or recording without warning or expectation feels intrusive and overly personal to many, if not most people. And it's an understandable feeling to have but yes, it's not justified, it's not a right, and it's not illegal to film anything in a public place. When people get defensive over filming of property and objects that are in public view, it's just ridiculous. This guy didn't overstep that mark, so he still gets a pass from me.

      So what do we actually learn from any of these? Nothing really significant so far. The best is widespread ignorance in terms of filming not.being readily controlled (yet). Will these actually change anything that matters? Seems very doubtful and more likely to encourage more power to control what is, in practice, often a nuisance caller

    • @RichardHartley65
      @RichardHartley65 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hj925- some of the police ones are illuminating and really do serve a purpose. The ones on other public buildings are generally cringeworthy and do nothing to further society. As you say, the likely response will be legislation to restrict filming in public buildings where it intrudes on the privacy of others. It will backfire. But for now, it generates views on TH-cam which is all these channels need.

    • @hj925
      @hj925 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RichardHartley65 The police were often disappointing, but that wasn't a shock was it and most of it was confirmation of what we already know. Actually some of it was strangely reassuring given their history. The public buildings were generally pointless. The rest is as you say.

    • @RichardHartley65
      @RichardHartley65 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hj925 - the ‘auditors’ argument is that engaging with police officers and publicising instances where they act outside their authority(or abuse their powers) is a way to bring about change. Police forces should discipline and/or re-train officers who have been shown to act inappropriately. They should also emphasise the rights of citizens and the limitations of police powers. Over time, the attitudes and behaviour in the police force should improve. I think there is merit in the argument, based on some of encounters that are shown on this channel.

    I reported gdpr breaches with peoples mortgage details to the ico. Provided photo proof and a whole timeline of me chasing up the windows getting covered.
    The worst and most unhelpful organisation ive ever dealt with is the ico.

    'Intransigent' is the perfect adjective for her demonstration of not understanding their/her responsibility to protect information!
    Sadly, they aren't intelligent enough to avoid demonstrating that lack of ability...

    It is funny how few people understand the law surrounding photography. You have the police who think that their own CCTV and BWV are fine, but you subjecting them to any scrutiny (or protest) by photograaphing (filming) them is bad, and then the misuse and abuse the law to bully and intimidate you.
    Then you have the police and politicians who think it great to have facial recognition going. But again, don't want you to film them.
    And all the other arm's length government employees such as security guards who think you should not be using cameras around them on or in government buildings.
    Then all the public who have cameras of their own but have some idea that yours is somehow bad voodoo but theirs is great.
    Everyone needs to get their heads into the C21st. If you haven't notices that cameras on mobile phones are ubiquitous it is time you did. So either ALL cameras are bad and the state needs to ditch all the CCTV and state 'security' cameras or everyone needs to get used to being filmed by whoever feels like it in public.
