@@haythamtaleaa1797 Ok, I received it! It's working ok for me. You'll need to draw a box around the two points with your direct selection tool (to select both), then hit CMD J or CTRL J to join.
@@GDHT Good day, I hope you can help me with joining 2 lines that are PRESENTING as dotted on Illustrator? I exported a Sketchup document and some of the lines showed up as dotted when they were consistently linear in Sketchup (they're not dotted at all and I changed all lines to be linear before exporting). Do I use Join Path Tool?
Jesus Christ, I've been meticulously making sure the end anchor points are perfectly on top of each other to join paths every time. This is gonna save so much time now
Simple and useful. . . great .. Do you have a way to merge two completely identical points? Each point on the end of a different path? The "join" option did not work
@@GDHT I got around this problem by drawing it in another way, but when the two points are exactly the same, no merging tool works. . I don’t know if the problem is only with me or the program’s origin
@@haythamtaleaa1797 Hmmm I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'the two points are exactly the same.' If you still have the file, you can send it to me, and I'll take a look. howtographicdesigner@gmail.com
Thank you Ann - all of your videos are great and very helpful! for some reason, when i tried to join the last two arcs, it would not merge them even though both were selected.
Your tutorial has been a great help. Sometimes when using the joining tool, a whole section of the line I'm trying to join line either suddenly disappears, or it turns into a horrible tangle. Any idea what's up with that, or how to prevent it?
I honestly don't use the join tool that much, and it's kind of hard to visualize what you mean....but instead of the Join tool, I usually select two points I want to join, then hit CMD J or CTRL J. We do have an Illustrator FB group where you can upload your problem with images, etc: facebook.com/groups/adobeillustratorusershelp
I'm pretty new to Illustrator and I have no clue what I am doing wrong. To practice I drew a circle and then two separate lines intersecting to circle. Now I want to delete the part of the circle that is between the two lines and delete the parts of the line that intersects the inside of the circle. So the end result is like a lightbulb. I've tried the Shift M which is fine if I wanted to the image to be self inclosed. But I want the bottompart of the light bulb to be open ended. I don't want it connected. Think if I was to create the Omega sign, a perfect circle and two ends that lead out of it and then I delete the part of the circle.
For this, I would create an overlapping circle and rectangle, combine them with Pathfinder > Unite, and then use the direct selection to select the bottom of the rectangle (you need to click right on the line itself) and delete it. This will remove only the bottom line of the shape, so it's open like you're wanting.
@@GDHT Thanks, I'm still not getting how Illustrator functions. I know PS and An like the back of my hand. Illustrator just seems counterintuitive for drawing, lol. Anyway, I have to learn it regardless - with time it will come. With "frustrating" time, lol.
For some reason while i am trying to delete the extra lines that create the ribbon across the shield with the Join Tool, it will not connect nor delete like you successfully did. I wonder what I am doing wrong here?
It sounds like you might not have the two paths selected. That's really the only thing I can think of - I made this video 6 years ago, but just now tested it. For me it's working the same way as in the video.
This might sound dumb but hôw do i draw a line with a pen tool? Without closing the path. I just wanna know how to get rid of the pen tool preview/tail (if you know what I mean)
It sounds like you might be using the Basic Toolbar. Click the Edit Toolbar icon (three dots) at the bottom of the Basic toolbar. Then choose the flyout on the upper right. Then click 'Advanced' at the top.
I drew a hexagon and a line that goes across it, now I want to trim off part of the line that is outside the hexagon, the join tool doesn't work in this case, is there another tool for something like this ?
It might be locked - go to Object > Unlock all. Can you select it? Another thing - the eraser works well on closed paths, but not too well on other objects, like objects with an appearance, etc.
I don't understand what you're wanting to do exactly. But, if you want to remove a path, use your Group Selection tool, click on it, and press your delete key.
