Don’t know if anyone saw that after the match, even though they did not shake hands, Elina acknowledged how competitive and fun the match had been, by a slight nod and lifting one hand in appreciation to Aryna. Sabalenka also applauded as Svitolina left the court. These girls were once friends, and they had said after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, that they all used to feel like family. Now most of them are still devastated by this war. Such a shame.

The challenges she went through these last months has only made her a more matured person and better player. Such an exciting, entertaining match, but what a bizarre 2nd set by Svitolina! < 40% of 1st serve in, Not a single point won (0/5). How she regrouped for the decider? Only one mom (Azarenka) remaining. Good to see those comebacks after maternity off till late stages. A new (baby) formula in WTA? > 20 min is an excellent highlight, nowhere else!

It was a surprise tactics. Never seen Sabalenka play so many. You've seen she started to retrieve a few in the third. Also, Svitolina was a few feet behind the baseline to absorb Sabalenka's power, so it's a compromise: move forward to save more drop shots but accept more errors on really deep shots.
Today the drop shots from Sabalenka had helped her to stay in the match.She was very very lucky today.Svitolina had won today! But this is tennis,it can be very cruel and sometimes unfair! I didn't use to watch women's tennis on atp tour, mostly, nothing sexist, just that there is a lack of power which makes it rather unexciting; clearly, I was wrong with these ladies. You can see how they summon all their powers when the urgency pushes them to give everything in their power, literally. What a great match. Will certainly watch out for Sabalenka now. She did pique my interest when she beat Swiatek in the last Mutua Madrid, I believe, or is that Barcelona?. Will watch her more now. Swiatek is so so good, but her style is not to my liking, I have to say.
