- 👉 In this playlist, you will learn what the distance and midpoint formulas are and how to apply them. The distance formula is derived from the Pythagorean theorem given the coordinates of two points. We will use the distance and midpoint formula to not only determine the distance and midpoint between two points but to also use this information for figures on a plane. Lastly, we will explore how to determine the endpoint given one endpoint and the midpoint.

@@tiffaz84 personally my actual teacher gives us the formula and tells us to try it, while here he gave us examples that he wrote down and answered instead of kind of leaving us to figure it out for the first part like my teacher does.
Adnan Kashalo that is so unfair. Our head of department at school always stresses the importance of dividing the lesson into at least 2 chunks of theory then practice, another theory and then another set of practice. It is very difficult to master a math skill without first practicing it enough, making mistakes and learning from those mistakes.

the two x-coordinates sum divided by 2 gives us the x-coordinate of the midpoint.

My teacher never taught us this and gave it on the test. I didn’t understand and obviously got it wrong. Like every kid unless they got a lucky guess. But man my teacher is bad.

Alternate method:
X's: Since moving from 2 to -1 represents a decrease of 3, just subtract 3 more from the x at the midpoint to get -4.
Y's Since moving from 9 to 6 represents a decrease of 3, just subtract 3 more from the y at the midpoint to get 3.

I’ve always been bad at math and I’ve just now trying out geometry, i have a thick skull so most of my teachers teachings go in and out one ear a lot even though I don’t mean to let it. I’ve even had moments where she’s just taught us it and five minutes later I need retaught the lesson. While I’m still confused on what exactly I’m doing I can work out the problems now with out using a calculator and just entering the problem in. Though I might still go on an online conference with my teacher just to make sure I get these right. Thanks Brian Mclogan!

Thankyou so much, I just started year 9 and I'm in a low graded class because I missed a lot of classes last year and they wont let me up even though my teacher has agreed I shouldn't be in my class. But anyways thanks because my maths lessons are very disrupted and I don't learn anything this has helped so much so that I can get good grades and hopefully move up classes next year.

Sir at the end of the video, the coordinate for D should have been (-4,3) as it was the answer to the midpoint equation. However, it was written (4,3). Was this just a typo, or intentional? Thanks for your help

So my question asks: “given the midpoint (-10,8) and one endpoint (-2,-8) of a line segment, find the other endpoint.
So what I did was x= -2+10 divided by 2 and for that I got x=-6
And for y, I did y= 8+-8 divided by 2 and got y=0 so overall I got (-6,0) as the other endpoint.
Is this correct? Please answer if you can, thanks!
