I skipped this yesterday because I wasn't in the mood for a compilation of Dan having a bad time on the show. On a whim, I came back to it today. How in the ever loving hell was I ever supposed to know that this was a proper episode?
Just from the title, I can tell; This is gonna be Dan's favorite episode
Game: Slowly and clearly shows that half the scoring is by stroke total and half is from time to complete the hole
Our cunning heroes Dan and Arin: "I just cannot figure out this darn scoring"
I think it's cause they think there would be more difference, like if someone does really bad, but no matter how slow you go or how many shots you take, you're getting no more than 4 points that hole
They just have a chronic inability to look at the whole screen
@@AtomicFlounder42 yeah, they are looking for more traditional score= +/- par combined with needing to keep the banter entertaining for the video and its why they don't notice. Whats the bet they notice the second they stopped recording though
@@spawnofkermit2687 You're right, but even if you ignore how scores are given out, it still ends up being 2s and 4s (and 3 for tie)...so either way Dan couldn't have caught up to Arin when he said "no one knows how the scoring system works".

It kinda hurts to feel dan so hard on himself. I hope he knows the vast majority of people support him. They realize that he's only spent like 40 minutes playing and they blew through 36 holes. And he did not rage quit as most people probably would have already. And he also pulled off some impressive shots.

By playing to the algorithm they aren't really likely to get more subs and instead just alienate the people that are already subbed to them. I disliked this video and won't watch it because that's how much this shit pisses me off.
I hate the new clickbaity non informative titles too but just look at all the comments saying “I clicked because of the title” and you gotta admit it works somehow.

I will never stop being frustrated when they don't read the information on screen. The points are very simple, it's based on your placing (in this case, first or second) in shots and your time.
When Dan got three points, both got one point for being first (tied on shots), Arin got one point for finishing first and Dan got two points for coming second.
Four point somes from being second in both shots and time and two points comes from being first on both.
I feel so bad for Dan's suffering...

Re: 36:00, there's a small, card game called "*Why First?*" centered around this exact concept. Each player has pawn on the 0 space of the board and a hand of number cards that can range from -4 to +5 (but no zeroes). You play cards from your hand to move player pieces forward or backwards on the track. At the end of a round (once all cards are played) whichever player is SECOND furthest down the track earns points and at the end the end of 5 rounds, whichever player has the SECOND most points wins.

I thoroughly enjoy that "dingdong, bingbong" has become one of Dan's noises/sing-y things.
How the point system works: So basically two contests are going on during a hole. Those being strokes and time. If you use the least strokes you receive 1 point, if you are second in strokes you get 2 points, and so on. If you are the first person to get it in the hole, you receive 1 point. If you are the second person to get it in the hole, you receive 2 points, and so on. The scores of both those contest are totaled and the person with the least points wins. It is incredibly convoluted
I love how they constantly mention how they don't understand the scoring system, when after every hole there is a thing that pops up and shows exactly how the scoring works. They score who gets to the hole first, and who has the fewest strokes. And the score is just the sum of where you placed in those two comparisons.

Dan's videogame competence extends almost exclusively to 2D games that have a control scheme no more complicated than the first 3 Mario games. Anything else turns him in to your grandfather trying to play the Halos.
The scoring system! It appears to be that you are scored in two areas: time taken, and strokes. You're ranked in order of who came lowest, and then you get points equal to your rank in both areas. So, let's say we have three players, Alice, Bob, and Charlie.
Alice makes the hole in 12.61s and 5 strokes
Bob makes the hole in 16.65s and 8 strokes
Charlie makes the hole in 10.12s and 12 strokes
For strokes, it goes Alice, Bob, Charlie. Alice gets 1, Bob gets 2, Charlie gets 3
For time, it goes Charlie, Alice Bob. Charlie gets 1 point, Alice gets 2 points, Bob gets 3 points.
At the end, Alice gets 3 points, Bob gets 5 points, and Charlie gets 4 points
Drunken fun fact from a Grumps fan who trains dogs for a living: The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a breed of dogs who has its hackles up all the time because of how its fur grows. Other dogs often end up in fights with Ridgebacks because they misinterpret the hackles.

Looks like the points are based on your place in both time and strokes.
So if you are first in strokes and fastest, your first in each and get 1 point in each.
If you were second in strokes and second in time, you get 2 points for each.
And if you were 1st in time but 2nd in strokes, you get 1 point for time and 2 points for strokes. :3
Ok, in case nobody else figured it out: the scoring is based on two criteria. Strokes and time to get to the hole. Then the number of the placement you get for each of them is added into your total. If they get the same number of strokes they tie. One of them would get 1st in strokes and 1st in time, therefore 2 points, and the other would get 1st in strokes and 2nd in time, therefore 3 points.
Love the early titling to these episodes.

Returning to tradition I see...
This is a nice arrangement. They play and experience all the tension, while I get a mild thrill, but I'm primarily very relaxed.
So Golf Gang is a golf racing game essentially. Points are given to you based on the number of players and how well you do in number of strokes and how fast you get to the goal. If Arin gets a better time, he gets 1 point, but if Dan gets it in less strokes, both Dan and Arin get 3 points because they got 2nd place in their respective other category.
One minute into a video whose title begins with "Dan Suffers" Arin says: "It's probably easy you know how it goes"
When Aron calls someone/something a freak it's the funniest thing in the universe to me.
I love how this game doesn't let one bad hole ruin your score. It's about winning the hole, not overall score.
