- A cancer form called a gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST) starts in the digestive system. The stomach and small intestine are where GISTs most frequently develop. A GIST is a cell growth that is hypothesised to develop from a certain kind of nerve cell.

I firmly believe in tailoring the treatment of my patients as per their needs without compromising on the outcomes. The needs of a young lady with breast cancer and no financial constraints is likely to be very different from the needs of an elderly lady coming from a remote village. To understand the needs of the patients we have to have a frank and open hearted discussion with them. I believe that advanced technology like robotic surgery should be used in appropriate cases because when it is used indiscreetly it can cause more harm than good.

Is good information. But can you talk about the tumours that cannot be treated with tables like imatiniv etc. I have a GIST and i had it removed twice by surgery, i was told my gist did not react to tablets. My question is do gists keeps coming back or will they eventually go. And how many surgeries would i be able to have? Do i have to have surgeries the rest of my life? I was 45 when it was diagnosed and I'm 48 now. It only come to light when it was too big and was obstructing my bowls so i couldn't eat and i was vomiting and diarrea. My stomach hurt like hell if i eat, test were done and have had surgery and it was only found it was a GIST when sent for tests. Thank you for your time.
