They recycled every theme from MH1 to Generations, with a few exceptions like Tigrex in MH4 They started to reimagine some of the Monsters themes with World, and I hope they continue with this. I want new versions of existing themes for future game releases

For example, I think the old Zinogre them and Brachydios theme are better than their newer ones (mount them for zinogre is pretty awesome though). In contrast, I think the new chameleos, Mizutsune, and Nargacuga themes are better.

Chameleos is a baby, plays around with the melynx in the reveal, has that goofy and playful personality, does a little dance when he’s about to do a big move and even in the lore he straight up only steals items so you can leave him alone. Make sure you dont give him a temper tantrum, otherwise we gonna have some villages turn into ghost towns.
I feel like this theme captures a new style of chameleos they seem to be going for, like, instead of the somewhat creepy, derpy and imposing monster they focused much more on making chameleos feel almost playful and childish yet very intelligent, like it’s messing with you the whole time, I still have parts of the original that I prefer but this version fits chameleos as a whole better imo.
i kinda miss that weird like violin part at around 0:42 from the original, but the added vocals and general newness of his theme more than make up for it. especially that brand new inclusion at 1:20 is so gooood
I kind of feel it's the other way around. I feel like Chameleos got a lot more serious and underhanded in this game, especially with some of his new AOE attacks.
@@hansgretl1787 I can see what you mean but I think with his more spazzy movements and also the feeling the music gives him, I feel he seems more playful, originally his theme had a more dark and almost creepy tone to it and his movements seemed less playful and more uncomfortable.

That's Chameleos' specialty; the unorthodox. He doesn't have any flashy and high firepower abilities like Kushala and Teostra, but he does have trickery. Every chance he gets he will try and confuse you, from the mist limiting eyesight, the pressure of his poison mist, to even the way he moves where he'll suddenly stop activity and then rapidly jitter around like a cockatoo on crack.
The OST is like the phases of how it feels to do his fight The first few moments is you giggling and being amazed by his quirky movements or happy nostalgia you are fighting him again. Then it moves slowly into reminding you this is an Elder Dragon and he does like half your HP in a single hit. Then from 1:20 onwards you are just having so much fun dancing with this quirky monster who can level villages in moments.
I love that Chameleos is actually taken seriously this time around. In previous games, he’s always seen as the runt of the Elder Dragon litter, but the fact that he deals severe poison damage and steals your spiribird buffs makes him just a big of threat as Teostra and Kushala Daora.
Capcom really went crazy with that new part at 1:20... Tbh I didn't really like Chameleos before but this theme alone changed my opinion on the monster.
god i love this theme. also i see some people asking why this is an elder dragon and i will tell you in his abilities and lore It's his mist, yeah he has toxic but it's his mist that makes him the most deadly and possibly the most cruel of all elder dragons. His mist makes him invisible, he has destroyed entire villages to the point no one could find out the reason as to why these villages were destroyed. Gameplay wise it's an interesting mechanic. fighting a monster that can turn invisible and spew toxic venom does seem challenging....for hunters. Now apply this logic to the villagers that rely on hunters to protect them. A monster that can simply go in, destroy an entire village and kill it's foes with toxic venom (which is more deadly and painful then poison). leaving no trace of it's actions. Imagine a village that is finishing a celebration of harvests or the newcoming of a newborn. Then you sleep, suddenly all you hear are people screaming in pain, houses being destroyed, so you wake up come out and all you see are houses suddenly crumbling down, people dying due to it's venom, getting shifted and squashed and thrown from something invisible. Suddenly it's quiet. A merchant passes by to the village, it's a well known merchant and it fascinates the people in that certain village that celebrates harvest seasons and newborns. Arriving, all it finds are dead bodies, houses abandoned and destroyed and a never ending mist that is dissipating as time goes on. The guild can only do so much against this monsters that can suddenly hide it's presence all the time. Heck some hunters come back after being injured from something they couldn't see. Kushala and Teostra have certain warnings that can help villagers escape or seek evacuation from the guild as the hunter deals with them. Kushala has a team already focused on determining how the wind changes when kushala comes (in Generations, a certain elder tells you about the investigation of kushala) and Teostra's habitat pattern has already been pointed out by the guild (it comes for powder to enhance it's blast powers and mating season, this was shown in World). However with Chameleos it's not possible to find a certain pattern. Once the catastrophe happens, then the guild dispatches the hunters. Basically the guild must wait for Chameleos to finish it's attack in order to find it. this is why Chameleos is considered an elder dragon. He can erase any village if it pleases too and they have no way of preventing it.
The thing is though it's fairly peaceful elder dragon that probably wonders into settlements on accident. It would rather make its attackers give up hunting it out of frustration rather than killing them, basically using Psychological Warfare.

There's a reason why Chameleos doesn't get turf wars, even against Magnamalo - it's not normally aggressive. In addition to preferring to hide using its invisibility powers to either flee or strike from a different angle, it's primarily an insectivore. If Chameleos enters Area 12 of the Shrine Ruins or Area 10 of the Flooded Forest and isn't aggro'd, it will make a beeline for a particular spot in the area. Upon reaching this spot, it will then turn around and slam its wide, leaf-like tail on the ground a few times, causing a number of small flying insects (not Neopterons) to start flying around in a panic. Then, like the chameleon it is designed after, Chameleos will use its long, elastic tongue to snatch several out of the air. Then, like all monsters do after performing an environmental interaction, it will drop a shiny and continue on its wanderings.
Since i listened to that part my brain keeps telling me that "new part" is another theme spliced in, but for the love of god i cant find it, the most "similar could be misty peaks, but considering that is not an original" habitat" for chamaleos makes no sense, i checked up all jungle, swamps and tower themes lol with no avail. Perhaps my mind playing tricks on me. And the fact some elder dragons in world has town themes spliced in, i checked too and same lol.

@Toxicstall Old Chameleos wasn't really as fun to fight, for one reason; His hitzones were absolute shit. Either you bring fire/dragon or you do nothing to it, and the only (physical) weakspot at all was its head, which as you know is high off the ground. Here, while Element is preferred for it, they at least bothered to put a weakspot on the front legs so GS and Hammer aren't left out.
@Toxicstall Only times he turned invisible in the old games were when he used the mist to cover the Arena, and occasionally when preparing for his poison breath attack. That being said, he also worked different in FU, in which he'd stay invisible a majority of the fight but would leave slight cues as to where he was, such as a slight flashing silhouette and sound cues, something Rise seems to have taken note of.

I also kinda wished he still stole your items. spiribird puffs aren't really anything worth being stolen anyway plus you can get them back, which sucks. other than that, fun fight.

@@Khezu_in_the_mountain yep, it's tricky but you can still make him out if you focus, breaking his horn makes him more visible too so it still gives you a reason to focus on hitting it whenever possible.
You know I was worried he'd steal my charms and talons if he hit me with his attacks. Fortunately, my fights look like a cartoon battle in a dust cloud when fighting Chameleos because my first fight with him was using dual blades with Demon Flight equipped.
@@loading2463 I'm kinda glad, it really didn't do a whole lot, it's not like he really used them. Plus now you can just restock at camp so it's pretty meaningless. It was a pretty bland gimmick. Now, stealing Spiritbird buffs AND using them may be the most creative gimmick out there for any monster. Makes using his weapons and armor against him really interesting too since you get buffs by dealing damage. He want from a cute and quirky but surprisingly uninteresting fight to being probably my favorite fight in Rise that I'm looking forward to grinding. He has so many really cool moves and movements and makes really good use of his invisibility mid-attack rather than just using it to reposition. They took a fight that had so much potential and fulfilled that potential.
I do enjoy this theme. It feels like an entirely new theme that is a total remix of the original. The original theme will always have a special place in my heart, but oh boy does this theme grant a whole new meaning and feel to him. Chameleos’ may look at first very silly and random, but it’s still and elder dragon and this new theme emphasizes both parts of it. The first half represents chameleos’ invisibility and cooky side, the second half represents his danger and power as an elder dragon. Once again hitting the nail on the head with a theme that perfectly matches the monster.
love how its got a sort of grandiosity, but even with the chanting choir, it never looses that sense of whimsy. also chameleos is my favorite monster after fighting him for the first time a few days ago so maybe im biased. hes just a silly little guy
The melody sounds like the theme of the first boss battle in a videogame, but the choir makes it more and more epic like if it was the final proof against an ancient beast. That's why i thought that Chameleos is the perfect dragon to start the arrival of the "normal" elder dragons on Monster Hunter Rise when i fought him: easy and nice apparently, but extremely dangerous and fatal when you know it. I'm looking forward to see new updates. I love how they are treating the soundtracks in this title.
Man.. I haven't heard this theme since Freedom Unite.. had no 3DS to play either MH4 or Generations but goddamn, this was good, welcome back old friend.

idk why everyone says chameleos is like a jokester his theme is has fucking scary chanting and he literally puts fog on the entire map imagine getting back to your village and everything is destroyed and the thing that destroyed it still there
My opinion on Chameleos' themes: 4U/GU is for when its just goofing around, just between you and it Rise is for when things gets serious, when a team of hunters is reminded why this thing is labeled as an Elder Dragon
It's was first time fighting the chameleos and his theme sounds like we're fighting a playful god and the fight is actually fun, it's my fav monster so far in Rise
this is hands down my fav fight in rise. the music is great, the creature design is hilarious, his animations are just fucking top notch, all the mannerisms and his attacks crack me up, and its just easy enough that i can appreciate all these things without it being boring.

Chameleos is amazing and underestimating it is lethal to say the least. Chameleos is an ED and is as dangerous as Teostra and Kushala. Its poison vape is insanely deadly. I love it.

Chameleos used to be such a joke in the past: what happened? He's got Severe Poison; he can actually attack while invisible; and that toxic breath attack has even received a buff by making sure it spread in a straight line. Chameleos actually feels like a challenge now and that scares me.
He may seem to be the goofiest elder dragon in the game, but he’s the only one who actually has some sort of effect on the environment you fight him in. The fog adds such a fun atmosphere to his fight. I would’ve loved something like that for kushala and teostra. Snowstorm for kushala and a fiery red sky for teostra?
MY LORD. I FUGGIN LOVE THIS THEME TOO! His old theme has been my favorite ever since MHFU and his stutter-walking was very unique imo. I'm also glad that tail fanning which required wind resistance is now gone.
As someone who enjoyed fighting this dragon in Freedom Unite as a kid, I can't help but feel very happy to see him again. With a new rendition of his theme to boot.

Most of the time, I'm not really a fan of the new additions that newer games add to old monster themes. But this. 1:20 That's some good fucking shit right there.
It gives me vibes of the whistling of the jungle, and the feeling that someone is playing a trick on you, yet getting serious as you realize that you arent alone.
Of the three, Chameleos seems to be the strongest, physically speaking; his tail slams launch boulders at you & his ultimate slams leave temporary impact craters.
It's cool that they actually made this fight engaging (even if it's still a bit frustrating, but that's Chameleos for you) when the original design for this monster was basically to force a time-out or abandon quest. It stole your healing, hid from you on the map, had fucking terrible hitzones (still does), and you were expected to learn some insane sonic bomb timing to even fight it. It's fun to see how the design philosophy has changed over time lol
The Sunbreak version sounds more Primeval, fitting as this Elder Dragon haunted us since Freedom 2, the ancient camouflaged beast that toy and confuse the hunters.

That's true. I never struggled with him in the older games however in Rise he kicked my butt....

Since i listened to that part my brain keeps telling me that "new part" is another theme spliced in, but for the love of god i cant find it, the most "similar could be misty peaks, but considering that is not an original" habitat" for chamaleos makes no sense, i checked up all jungle, swamps and tower themes lol with no avail. Perhaps my mind playing tricks on me.
And the fact some elder dragons in world has town themes spliced in, i checked too and same lol.

@Toxicstall Old Chameleos wasn't really as fun to fight, for one reason; His hitzones were absolute shit. Either you bring fire/dragon or you do nothing to it, and the only (physical) weakspot at all was its head, which as you know is high off the ground. Here, while Element is preferred for it, they at least bothered to put a weakspot on the front legs so GS and Hammer aren't left out.
@Toxicstall Only times he turned invisible in the old games were when he used the mist to cover the Arena, and occasionally when preparing for his poison breath attack.
That being said, he also worked different in FU, in which he'd stay invisible a majority of the fight but would leave slight cues as to where he was, such as a slight flashing silhouette and sound cues, something Rise seems to have taken note of.
@@yetravellingsonc8372 True, but at least in gu, he went COMPLETELY invisible, whereas in rise, even when he's at max invisibility, you can still see him. I also kinda wished he still stole your items. spiribird puffs aren't really anything worth being stolen anyway plus you can get them back, which sucks. other than that, fun fight.
@@Khezu_in_the_mountain I'm gonna assume the partial invisibility is to make it so that his moves are more fluid and it doesn't break up the pacing of the fight, also because I think they're reserving really hectic moves that involve invisibility in G rank
@@Khezu_in_the_mountain yep, it's tricky but you can still make him out if you focus, breaking his horn makes him more visible too so it still gives you a reason to focus on hitting it whenever possible.

Fortunately, my fights look like a cartoon battle in a dust cloud when fighting Chameleos because my first fight with him was using dual blades with Demon Flight equipped.
It's sad he doesn't steal items anymore...
@@loading2463 I'm kinda glad, it really didn't do a whole lot, it's not like he really used them. Plus now you can just restock at camp so it's pretty meaningless. It was a pretty bland gimmick. Now, stealing Spiritbird buffs AND using them may be the most creative gimmick out there for any monster. Makes using his weapons and armor against him really interesting too since you get buffs by dealing damage. He want from a cute and quirky but surprisingly uninteresting fight to being probably my favorite fight in Rise that I'm looking forward to grinding. He has so many really cool moves and movements and makes really good use of his invisibility mid-attack rather than just using it to reposition. They took a fight that had so much potential and fulfilled that potential.
If you're using an insect glaive he can actually steal your extracts. Really surprised me the first time fighting him.
Chameleos’ new theme really captures the playfulness of the monster, even though you can’t capture him.
I do enjoy this theme. It feels like an entirely new theme that is a total remix of the original. The original theme will always have a special place in my heart, but oh boy does this theme grant a whole new meaning and feel to him. Chameleos’ may look at first very silly and random, but it’s still and elder dragon and this new theme emphasizes both parts of it. The first half represents chameleos’ invisibility and cooky side, the second half represents his danger and power as an elder dragon. Once again hitting the nail on the head with a theme that perfectly matches the monster.

He's no bigger. He was a pretty tall boy in the other games, very upright posture compared to Kushala and Teostra.
The fact his theme gets muffled when he puts up the fog is the *BEST* thing about the ost!
love how its got a sort of grandiosity, but even with the chanting choir, it never looses that sense of whimsy.
also chameleos is my favorite monster after fighting him for the first time a few days ago so maybe im biased. hes just a silly little guy

The melody sounds like the theme of the first boss battle in a videogame, but the choir makes it more and more epic like if it was the final proof against an ancient beast. That's why i thought that Chameleos is the perfect dragon to start the arrival of the "normal" elder dragons on Monster Hunter Rise when i fought him: easy and nice apparently, but extremely dangerous and fatal when you know it. I'm looking forward to see new updates. I love how they are treating the soundtracks in this title.

4U/GU is for when its just goofing around, just between you and it
Rise is for when things gets serious, when a team of hunters is reminded why this thing is labeled as an Elder Dragon
It's was first time fighting the chameleos and his theme sounds like we're
fighting a playful god and the fight is actually fun, it's my fav monster so far in Rise
I love that Chameleos still feels like it's having the best day of its life when I see it walking.

this is hands down my fav fight in rise. the music is great, the creature design is hilarious, his animations are just fucking top notch, all the mannerisms and his attacks crack me up, and its just easy enough that i can appreciate all these things without it being boring.

Chameleos used to be such a joke in the past: what happened? He's got Severe Poison; he can actually attack while invisible; and that toxic breath attack has even received a buff by making sure it spread in a straight line. Chameleos actually feels like a challenge now and that scares me.
He may seem to be the goofiest elder dragon in the game, but he’s the only one who actually has some sort of effect on the environment you fight him in. The fog adds such a fun atmosphere to his fight. I would’ve loved something like that for kushala and teostra. Snowstorm for kushala and a fiery red sky for teostra?

The air in the Wildspire Waste becomes more shimmer-y when Teostra or Lunastra show up.

It gives me vibes of the whistling of the jungle, and the feeling that someone is playing a trick on you, yet getting serious as you realize that you arent alone.
Of the three, Chameleos seems to be the strongest, physically speaking; his tail slams launch boulders at you & his ultimate slams leave temporary impact craters.
Love the theme. Very mischievious.
This song alone makes the fight way more fun.
It's cool that they actually made this fight engaging (even if it's still a bit frustrating, but that's Chameleos for you) when the original design for this monster was basically to force a time-out or abandon quest. It stole your healing, hid from you on the map, had fucking terrible hitzones (still does), and you were expected to learn some insane sonic bomb timing to even fight it. It's fun to see how the design philosophy has changed over time lol

The Sunbreak version sounds more Primeval, fitting as this Elder Dragon haunted us since Freedom 2, the ancient camouflaged beast that toy and confuse the hunters.
I didn't know you could make the original theme better but they managed to do it.
