    Has a transcript been published?

      No. If I knew how to I would although from what I know it's a lot of work (I could be wrong) & I have a day job. If someone wants to then I can add it.

    20:49 I always see something new when I rewatch Mark's videos. PSInfo update time. Very nice. We've been looking at working out if people are rebooting their laptops or not, this can help.

    Funny that NewSID was mentioned because a few years later Mark redraws it and does a blog post on why SID issues are a myth.
    blogs.technet.microsoft.com/markrussinovich/2009/11/03/the-machine-sid-duplication-myth-and-why-sysprep-matters/
    But it's still strange as we'd have issue at work sometimes, back in 2007 and we'd use NewSID when deciding it was a SID issue. And every time it fixed the issue. So not sure what that was about.
    Just read some of the comments from the above link. Looks like it probably was a DOMAIN SID that was always causing our issues. It's been a long time now so it's possible we did other "fixes" that made it look like NewSID was actually working.

    29:13 can we use du for a shared folder over network like \\shared\data ?

    • @TheStevenWhiting
      @TheStevenWhiting  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looking in the book they released in 2016 where its still in use, no mention is made of it working on network shared drives. So I'm assuming not.

      @@TheStevenWhiting Can u please mention if we have any other way to get folder details like du for shared drives? Thank you.

    • @TheStevenWhiting
      @TheStevenWhiting  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vamsipaturi3296 Just tried it and it worked on my work laptop to a network share. du -l 2 \\servername\apps\ if I didn't put the end \ it would give a Invalid Path but once I put the \ on it worked. Obviously you have to have permissions to the directory. I'm currently working remotely so not in the office and over a VPN connection so its a little slow but appears to be working.

      Having said that its not finishing and appearing to just never finish. So may work on network drives but might not be reliable.

    That dialog about him and Microsoft was cringe inducing.

      But over the years he's still continued to poke fun at them. In one of the Defrag Tools videos he mentions how he pointed out UAC wasn't going to prevent malware as claimed. That was back when Windows 8 was about to be released (of which he had no involvement in regarding code as he was moved to Windows Azure by that point). From the look on his face and I could be wrong, it looked like he knew it wasn't going to be well received.
