  • Indiana Landmarks’ African American Landmarks Committee presents “Indiana Avenue Matters,” an online information session looking at the history of Indiana Avenue and erasure of Black neighborhoods. The program, recorded on November 10, 2020, examines plans for a multi-story apartment building proposed for development north and west of the historic Madam Walker Legacy Center in Indianapolis and offers viable alternatives for the area.
Olon Dotson Ph.D presents thoughtful design alternatives for the apartment development with an increased focus on neighborhood engagement and connectivity, including additional retail and community space. Dotson is associate professor of architecture in Ball State University’s College of Architecture and Planning, and chairman of Indiana Landmarks’ African American Landmarks Committee.
The program includes remarks by Claudia Polley, co-founder, Indiana Landmarks’ African American Landmarks Committee and daughter of Jean Spears, co-founder of Historic Ransom Place; A’Lelia Bundles, journalist and great great granddaughter of Madam C.J. Walker; and Justin Garrett Moore (AICP, NOMA) urban planner and designer, and member of Reclaim Indiana Avenue and BlackSpace.

I'm hoping 🙏 and Praying this comes to Reality, Indiana Avenue is Indianapolis version of New York's Harlem.

If it Really Mattered, imo, it would STILL exist as Broadripple, Massachusetts Avenue, Virginia Avenue & the like.

This looks amazing I love the og statement. I wonder how do you get black people to re invest there and go about protecting our self so this does not happen again.
