    Just an FYI: The number you can enter in the warehouse (labeled "Desired") is to tell the warehouse that you want a *minimum* of that amount in the warehouse, not the maximum. It is working as intended.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmm..minimum..but they stuff the items in it even if it's zero :D I mean..I see how that would work if intended like that, but for me it's hard to see an application for such approach :D Normally you would want to limit the maximum so you can utilize one building for more resources and one of them don't take full capacity..but mkay I guess I'm missing something! :D Thank you for the comment and update!

      @@MLMariss If it's 0, that means they wont activelly try to fill it, only if a production building has stock. For example, you have two warehouse with default request 20 and a blueberry flag

    Regarding your 'prioritize' comment. When you need water put into tanks fast, don't prioritize the tank, prioritize the pump. Prioritizing the tank just makes them move water between tanks.

    Well Being is a benchmark reference. The higher it is means your city is a well oiled machine. You don't need to click beaver by beaver to know your city is in good shape. To see you on cycle 60, with a low well being means to me you have a lot of beavers living in random housing units not getting enough bonuses, so your city is not running as efficient as it can. I keep all my houses in same area with one road entrance so they all get the bonuses. I am on cycle 15 (Iron Teeth hard mode), with 130+ beavers and my well being is 15 constantly. I am only missing giving them Carousel & Ingenuity monument to bring them up to 17 well being.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, true - but not all bonuses/stats are created equal and can be skipped in favor of others or none at all :D
      Meaning - if you need to maintain whole new industry just satisfy a bonus that does not impact gameplay in meaningful way - then not building it at all already IS the most efficient way, if you get what I mean ;)
      Also the thing that lacks for me in this game - for example in Caesar 3 when you improve living situation you see people upgrading houses and that gives you the overall desire to provide such improvements, where in Timerborn? There is a number in corner of the UI that increases or decreases..yea, not that appealing to go though all the effort and struggle :D

    • @aljo8150
      @aljo8150 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So your beavers travel from the other side of the map at the start and end of each day if all your houses are at the same place?

    don't fully agree with the "unemployed" beaver one. I do like having between 3-5 unemployed beavers per district so i can easily assign jobs quickly, but a LOT of times, what i'll do is way-over-build inventors early game (16-24 of them) and that way, i really never have "unemployed" beavers. I just have some range of inventors from say...4 running to 24 running.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a very good tactic I use myself :D Because you can always fire some of them if you need elsewhere - and no production is halted/impacted :D Thank you for commenting this!

  • @ShadowDrakken
    @ShadowDrakken 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The game's warehouses aren't really "so bad", it's more that you're not understanding what that number means. If you look at the caption, it says "Desired", so it's not a hard limit. What the game does is it stocks the warehouse up to that level and then moves to another warehouse IF there's room elsewhere, but then if there's NOT room in another warehouse, it will go above the limit

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Points well made! And that leaves us with the problem - if you are over producing something - it will be stuck in the warehouse taking all the space and leaving to the potential disaster as some more valuable items might be left behind.

    when stacking buildings to the sky why not put a district gate up there and a new district center and keep going.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is hard stop at level 12 (depends on how far you start from the bottom) and second - each district has separate resources so that makes quite a problem to manage them all and workforce is also split. Living a lot of beavers up in the top district would be useless for bottom district where all your other operations are..so there are some drawbacks there ;)

    I don't think wellbeing is pointless, rather not explained. If you click on an individual beaver though, it shows what the boons are.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the thing is (failed to explain it good enough :D ) - the each of the bonuses matter! Especially those with the stars and some of them are better than others! So yes - in that sense those bonuses are important! But the well-being indicators just counts average and shows a number that itself doesn't mean/give you anything (besides unlocking next Faction). So for example you can have 2 bonuses +10% walking speed and +10 working speed which would show well-being 2 right?! And for example you can have +30% AND +40% life expectancy at the same time which is HUGE but the well being factor would be the same 2! So in that sense in both scenarios the rating is 2 but two totally different impact on your beavers :)
      I hope I managed to explain a bit more my approach on the topic :D Thank you for the comment!

    • @Commandant_Aeon
      @Commandant_Aeon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MLMariss If I get it right, you mean to say that the arbitrary number of the well being doesn't reflect the quality of the bonus behind it, as the number only represent how many needs you are actively filling, which means that said number does not help you have a precise enough overview of the well being of your beavers.

    can you put a new district up on the top of the tower at 41 min?

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically you can - yes, but remember that beavers, resources, everything is split in between those two districts! You have to build a special transport logistics to transport things back and forth, and there is no way to merge beaver communities, just manually shifting them from one to another, so the result would be something you don't really want :D

    To preserve natural forest, it's better to cut in diagonal. You have more tree able to give seed. So more luck to have a seed planted. Else, you have a lot of hole in your forest. And you don't really gain a lot of trees to cut.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is an interesting idea! So you mean like a chess table pattern? Now my only question (I have no answers yet) is - do the trees regrow diagonally or just on the sides? In case of only sides, then from 1 tile only 4 locations for the seedling, then your approach would be significantly better! Now I have to test it! Thank you so much, you might deserve a cookie and a beaver medal ;)

    • @Sombre____
      @Sombre____ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MLMariss Yes. Like a chess table pattern. Because your method is good but too much aggressive for the forest. In diagonal, it's less aggressive and you harvest half the forest & allow every tree to plant seed. (I this game, the forest struggle to feel the holes than you want it to feel, you can wait days before seeing a seed were you want, so diagonal is better for that)
      Tree regrow in the holes. It's really efficient. And with this method, you don't need to worry anymore about it. And the forest extend from her border !
      Also, i plant maple in diagonal, then, when the forester have planted the seed, i cancel the forester mud so the tree will put seed everywhere when growed up. It's really nice if you want to make a new forest taking of herself.

    • @MLMariss

    Just getting into Timberborn and I have to say this was incredibly helpful - thank you so much for all the awesome hints! It really helped to understand how the game works. And don't stress about the video getting so long, at least I personally love that fact that you explained everything properly and in depth. That way, I don't just replicate what you showed in the video, but I also understand why it is best to do this way. Great job, I have to say!
    I still have two questions that you might be able to answer (at least the second one would take me ages to get to the point in the game to test is out myself):
    1. How many tiles of farmland would you recommend per farm? I get the 2:2:1 ratio, but should I have 10:10:5 or 20:20:10 or 40:40:20 per farm?
    2. Would it be possible (and make sense) to build a huge and very high water reservoir where the water spawns with a very high damn that is kind of like the 3rd type of damn you showed at 58:00. Only it has the 1 or 2 of the outlet points at the bottom so you get a controlled flow with a certain volume per second, but at the very bottom of the damn. And then you build at the other side of the damn at the height of the outlet points, so at the very bottom of the damn.
    At least in my mind, that would mean that as long as any water is in the large reservoir, it will flow out at the bottom at the same rate and you will always get the same amount of water on the other side. That would make it very easy to build and plan on the other side and even during a draught when the reservoir is half empty, you still have water flowing without having to adjust any flood gates. I hope I was able to express my idea properly and it makes sense.
    Anyway, keep up the great work and thank you very much!

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your kind words and for the questions! ;)
      1. This is tricky - IF you don't have the perfect setup ratio (in the beginning when you don't have all cultures yet) the tiles per Farm will be different! Because of the different growing times for all three cultures! I'm testing as we speak the 2 farm setup (so we need to divide the tiles by 2) with 225 tiles on 2:2:1 setup and it feels at some moments that it can/should be bigger! So something like 250 tiles divided by 2 will be 125 per farm?! And another note I found on this - even if outcome food is/should be the same with 2:2:1 setup - beavers prefer bread and will always eat it first! So I'm looking if this ratio needs to be adjusted actually!
      2. I got you! Fully understandable explanation AND water physics approach as well! But it's not currently possible in the game! So for such an approach, we would need to have a 'leak' at the bottom of the water container, but whenever you place a Dam tile (half covered/half-open) piece - you cannot place Levee on top of it! So this piece can only be constructed at the top part (the very last piece) of your reservoir no matter how big it is! And the same is true for Flood Gate - you can place it next to your actual reservoir to control the amount of 'leak', but that still would require you to build a reservoir with an opening at the bottom, which is not possible - not with Dam, not Platform of any height!
      So currently the only option is to go with reservoir and the opening at the top side, which of course limits you so you can 'access' (let loose) only the top 3 levels of your reservoir (with 3 story Flood Gate) and the rest of the water will sit idle at the lower part of your reservoir. If that gives you the answer and ideas for the dam setup :)
      Just as a bonus - I was randomly getting on the Timberborn suggestion page and saw that request for the Aquaduct (o.O) is already approved AND being worked on!! I cannot express enough how excited I am for this xD You can imagine the possibilities and craziness that can be pulled off with this xD

    for drop off points: Always plop down 2: One for food and water, and the other for building resources. Water = 150 limit, and food = 150 limit. Then for resources: 100 Logs, 100 planks, 25 gears, 25 explosives, and 50 "bits" remaining for whatever else such as books (or extra food / berries if playing Iron Teeth)

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this might be a good idea, but it is not the..'bare minimum' :D I mean - there can be always more things to carry over and improve, but..that reduces efficiency and if you have that spot only to build a dam or stairs..but yea - viable option if you expand to stay!

Hard comparison, as this game is far from finished - no campaign, no scenarios, I guess not all factions, limited maps, no achievements, a lot of things missing for a final product (I assume). But from other hand - if you don't mind sandbox type, playing on your own, without goals/restrictions/theme/story - then none of that is a problem :)
      So the main question to determinate between one or another game would be your passion for sandbox (as you can create/edit maps for this game as well - so two sandboxes in one :D ), if that helps you with your question :)

    hey man, whats up! i see that you started Timberborn tutorials, and i like it. i watched your series on tropico and evil genius, and you are doing good job here as well. one thing i would like help with is dam and water reservoars. in this video you are in late game and its kinda confusing looking at those dams and reservoirs. can you make solo tutorial on dams and reservoirs where you start from scratch and explain how you contain water from beginning of the level. i think thats the most important part of the game, and i have problems with it. thanks in adance, you have my support. keep up the good work! :)

    Ive just started to get into these building sim games. I believe timber born is the perfect first choice:) thanks for the guide my guy. I've been so confused on districts and how to obtain the metal required for most building schematics.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say this is the right choice indeed! ;) Thank you for your kind words - happy that I can help with my videos!
      So for your confusion part: 1) Districts are a bit explained in the Expanding portion of the video and one more thing you need to know besides that is - clicking your current (main) District Center and then selecting to migrate your populations - that screen will let you send some (amount of your choice) beavers to live in other district! From there as I explained you can start fresh (exactly as your first district) or you can get Distribution set up to provide with all the necessary items! Another tip here - you can send more beavers (if you have spare (unemployed)) from your main district or send them back (for example to feed them and drink water).
      And the metal part - you need to unlock 2 buildings under metal building section - one is like gatherer who collects scrap from the big metal building rubbles (always few spots in the map) and then that scrap must be turned into final metal pieces! Be aware that other building requires some good amount of power ;) And that's it, quite easy to get - the biggest issue is that every map has a set of metal scraps and no more. There is no respawn or getting more than your map provides, so be really mindful where you use that metal ;)

    Actually water tanks are great during dry season if you build a tower 1x1 block and put a dump over it. You can get farm land for just a few drops of water. The radius is huge. Just store ton of water and turn them on and off.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This actually seems to be amazing trick! :D If I get your idea right - then there is even 2 possibilities: 1) if you don't have dynamite, then building upwards a Levees so they form a "reservoir' 1x1 size :D Then dumping water in it or 2) if you have an access to dynamite, then 1x1 hole in the ground and water dump on it might be excellent approach! :D You're a genius ;)

    • @Sombre____
      @Sombre____ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, i saw a guy put a water dispenser feeling up a hole of a tile size with water. It allowed to get the land green. I believe than this will be fixed soon.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But from other hand - there is nothing to fix..that is basic game mechanics - they cannot take away the water, the hole and the green area around it..t! It think this should be up for staying :D

    • @ronaldtrang5040
      @ronaldtrang5040 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Sombre____ why would this be fixed. Its basic game mechanics. Water dumper does what it's suppose to do. Release water. Water in a tile does what it does make land around it green. The only thing they should fix is the irrigation Tower. That tower is useless and needs a buff. At least iron teeth has a chance to use this.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree about the Irrigation Tower..it's a bit imbalanced at the moment. Will see what they will come up with! :)

    In the expanding part regarding distribution points stuff. I find it better to just build 2 drop off points and send food and water to 1 and then logs planks etc to another, as they are free to build. Rather than try and calculate it.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that is another way! Just one downside - especially the small/mowing/expanding posts often have to move around/replace the buildings (to move to the desired location, once stairs are built) - while the buildings are for free to place - if you store a lot of items in there, it takes long time to clear them out, without extra warehouse built :) It can work if you are sure the building location will be set for good of course ;) Thank you for suggestion and advice!

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm.. light and dark green? You mean like in the 2:40? If yes, then that is just marking of my cut area I have placed over the trees! This 'grid' of light and dark trees are already marked trees, to cut out highlighted trees and leave the darker trees alone so they can sprout seedlings ;)

    What is the priority for science?

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Damn excellent question right here!
      1. Stairs - only thing that opens up verticality, 2nd story buildings, access to other levels (ground)
      2. Platform - goes together with Stairs, especially for stacking up buildings and then making them accessable
      3. Levee - cheaper than Dam, only dam building element that can be stacked, this is essential for storing water, providing access (similarly as Platform, but without need for planks), expanding in rapid pace from starting position. My favourite building element in the game :D
      4. Forester - first and only crucial building without which you can be doomed to lose game. Why not first? Without stairs it's mostly not enough place to plant trees and pointless to have as priority. Also because Planks are needed to build, so before having those - no need to unlocking it.
      With these 4 you have everything you need, rest of the unlocks are complimentary/not crucial. Keep an eye before unlocking - what materials you will need to built it. There are many things that are not worth unlocking because you don't have that materials yet ;)
      I hope that helps!

    • @KevinHwoarang
      @KevinHwoarang 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MLMariss Much, I don't think I'm doing much it differently. What are good times to start opening up the paper/alternative energy/gear/scrap branches?

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly? I have (that's my personal problem xD) huge problems collecting scraps as I know they end so I don't want to relay on ANYTHING that uses/needs it ;x But the rest of it is the same chicken and egg problem - to have paper you need gears, to have gears you have enough planks AND power, to have power, you need enough/alternative sources.. :D Main mistake to avoid (changing the question) would be to waste science on the building which when unlocking - you realize you don't have that resource yet :D Metal, gears, planks for example..so whenever you have set the production of these materials - only then it's worth revealing them..
      And of course - if you have unlocked everything else, then of course just getting them ahead would not harm ;) I had such approach actually, when let loose reproduction and finding myself with 16+ unemployed beavers..then just set up 16 Science buildings and having everything unlocked in a moment :D Then remove all of the science buildings and build on..to thrive! :)
