- My NomaDoes what your NomaDon't? XD A lot of work went into making full 32x functionality possible, something of an OCD gaming dream come true! 32x does NOT normally work with a Nomad, not even with a Mega Key and external screen, and requires internal surface mount soldering work to enable, among other things. It took about 20 or so odd mods, and a LOT of experimentation. But after the sandpaper dust settled, here's all the features I ended up adding to the system:
- LCD screen replaced
- LCD input switch
- LCD input jack
- External LCD controls buttons
- LCD off switch (for power saving when using TV)
- External Player 1 controller port
- Controller Port/onboard controls switch
- Soft Reset button
- Hard Reset button (for saving SMS games to Mega Everdrive)
- SMS compatibility mod
- 32x compatibility mod
- Expansion audio compatibility mod
- 3rd power input
- Li-Ion camera battery dockplate
- S-video Output
- Foam hand grips
- Secondary battery plate for 32x
- Battery plate to 32x jack
- 32x to video input cord
- 32x input cable mod
- 32x underside mod (allows video link cable to plug in cleanly)
Whew! :) Bonus side effects were being able to use the Nomad as a portable music player by using a Mega Everdrive, and being able to play Sega Master System games in FM sound mode when using a NeoMyth MD Cart (also shown at the end of the video). - บันเทิง

sega had so many missed opportunities towards the end of their console production life cycle. In an alternate reality Sega won and bought nintendo out.

That Laser Active controller is sweet!
That is awesome, some wicked mods. I especially like the battery mod, I used the original sega battery pack as seen around. But yours is much better as you can change batteries. This solves my issue of using the NP-F950 battery that pushes an amaaazing 7500mah.
Andrei Nicolae Using a newer screen helps aid in allowing a wider variety of batteries to work due to the lower voltage; the exact battery I use is an F550 (Sony Compatible) that is rated 7.4v 2500mah, they're dirt cheap on ebay and can be wired to/in/in place of the battery pack. Eventually I decided I should just internally wire a backplate that accepts the new batteries, and made it removable so I can still use the crappy AA pack if I want, but since using the Li-Ions I've never gone back. :)

That's pretty sweet. My Nomad is modded with a new LCD, but damn. In a way, I'm kinda glad it wasn't 32x ready out of the box. Could you imagine carrying that thing around as a kid. sheesh.
Don Long Its funny you mention that. I did carry around a 'portable' 32X setup as a kid but it consisted of a Sega CDX with 32X on top, and using PC Engine LT as a screen. It ran on 32 AA batteries! $1500 worth of hardware just so I could take arcade Space Harrier on the road. This setup is much better :)

Wow....now THAT is an awesome Nomad..can't think of anything else that could be done! (except maybe work out a way for SegaCD support? LOL)....however, I recall in the Angry Video Game Nerd video about the 32X, James said the 32X made the Genesis look like it was on life support....well, he should see this video...TWO batteries, wires running around the back of the system....I'm sure with the LCD, the Nomad gets good battery life and the 32X probably outlasts the Nomad battery due to it not having a screen

no it doesn't, the sound hardware is different. The music itself in that BIOS was taken from Space Harrier, however.

It looks clunky but it turns the nomad that way into a portible 32bit system,likely space harrier is also on the genesis.
Now how were you able to get video from the 32x on the lcd screen while still able to run the entire hardware? Also regardless of external sound, is it also required to mod the genesis model 1. & 2 for external sound or is this mod ONLY needed for the nomad?
Space Harrier II is the version that works with the normal Genesis and it is pretty awful and slow in comparison to original Space Harrier on 32x/ Arcade; it is a totally different game. The video does need to be fed from the Genesis, into the 32x, then back out from the 32x into the built in LCD screen, which the multiple mods I did make possible. The sound circuitry mod is necessary only for the Nomad since it was not built with it originally. The unit may seem clunky but considering the sheer amount of PCBs at work, and that its all original hardware its not bad (I've whipped it out for gaming on an airplane and its no less convenient than using a laptop).
Can it play audio CD for the flash carts like the Mega SD and Mega Everdrive PRO? the Mega SD came out in 2019 so I hope you're aware of this

Why plug a controller in when you can use the controls on the Nomad? Were they disabled?
+regno_films The built in controls work fine, but there may be games that you want a different controller (i.e. Street Fighter for an arcade stick, and XE1 Pro for Afterburner, etc.). The Nomad actually has a controller port on it but its only for player 2, so I had to add another port for Player 1. I use the Nomad as a console outputting RGB to a large display, so using a controller is much better under those conditions.

We need an update to this (please) with an LCDDRV RGB-driven LCD, Triple Bypass installed (or at least the audio part of it for better speaker quality), and Mega/Sega CD games running off a Mega Everdrive Pro or MegaSD in the bit where you remove the 32X :)
