After broadcasting what appeared to be an address read by Saddam Hussein, Iraqi television few hours later showed footage from Baghdad in which the Iraqi president appeared walking in the street with a small entourage.
In the video, dozens of people quickly surround him, chanting "our spirit, our lives we sacrifice for you Saddam."
Some of them were armed with Kalashnikov rifles.
The video also shows a drive by shot of what appears to be a Baghdad street. Smoke in the background suggests the street scene may have been filmed after the war broke out.
There is no independent confirmation this video was shot on Friday.
Earlier, in an unannounced television broadcast designed to rally his people, Iraqi television showed what they called President Saddam Hussein calling on Iraqis to strike at the U.S.-led coalition.
References to a downed U.S. helicopter in the message suggest it was made after the strike aimed at killing him, a U.S. intelligence official said.
The message was some of the strongest evidence yet that the Iraqi leader survived the attack.
Despite the traditional secularism of his Ba'ath Party, Hussein opened his speech with a passage from the Koran and peppered it with references to Allah.
The grim-faced Saddam appeared in a military uniform and beret, with an Iraqi flag over his right shoulder.
He paused occasionally to turn the pages of a notebook as he spoke.

This was during the battle of baghdad in 2003. This was the last time saddam was seen in public and iraqi tv before he went into hiding. The capital fell 5 days after this was filmed.

This was his way of saying goodbye to that corner of Baghdad. He lived there at some point of his life and used to attend a coffe shop there. This is sad to rewatch after 19 years ... I'm Shia but respect and honor Saddam Hussein. His past service to the Empire behind him, the man became a true Nationalist leader. A better man the the pretenders and real tyrants who wrecked his nation, raped, looted and pillaged it by any historical standard. In fact Genghis Khan for all his reputation would be envious. They humiliated and murdered him, as if that was their right. The world stood back and cheered like a demented Ork Kingdom. Those who should have defended a great Muslim nation were silent or worse. Sunnis have no concept of the most basic commandments we've been given. So it went with Qaddafi and Bashar al-Assad has had to fight with very little help from Muslims with the usual notable exception. The only ones to survive the purges directed by the usual suspects have been those who stood their ground and principles and fought, and had at least some allies from within the Muslim world at their side. Saddam was a Tyrant without doubt, and so are the looters and thiefs stealing Iraqi wealth now...the current rulers of Iraq are pro Iranian and have subjugated sunnis causing the rise of Fanatical Isis.
