Life is tough and work is tough too, and teachers have to prepare us for that especially in a highly competitive field such as ballet. I'm sure that this teacher does actually care about her pupils since they do seem happy, confident and supportive of each other. But we also know that there are teachers who really don't like their pupils, in which case you take their criticism and use it to make yourself stronger and better. Accept that they are never going to praise you no matter what, and comfort yourself with the fact that at some point you will be leaving them behind.

I gotta say that sometimes I freaking wish I had a teacher like that, coz when I was like 16, our teacher used to threat us all the time or even beat us. And it was kinda normal because we didn't know any better. One day he threw a huge heavy ass office chair at us (I'm not joking lol) and left us some scars. Now I look at this and feel so happy for all who have an actual teacher, not some psychopath (but also kinda jealous, don't get me wrong haha):D

One time I was attending an adult ballet class different from my usual school because my school was on break and the teacher kept screaming at this girl "PAS DE BOURREE" and spat on the floor but didn't tell what was wrong so obviously she's going to keep doing it wrong???

That's stupid, pointless and counter productive. Teaching the arts means more than knowinf gow to do something, it means the ability to translate your own knowlesge od how to do it into WORDS that other people can understand. You can't effectively teach dance, painting, acting, none of it, if you cant translate.
My Russian ballet teacher would say " bend body back." seeing this class has brought back fond memories. Ballet is not boring 😊. There have been a few performances that have brought tears to my eyes with emotion. Love it 💕💕💕
These are the best kind of ballet teachers (teachers of any path, actually): they can keep a light atmosphere on class, but still manage to do a great job on correcting the students!! At least this is my favorite type!! Had few like this, though… God bless this teacher and her career!

My favorite ballet teachers I’ve ever had have been the sassy sarcastic ones who will still get onto you for corrections. It made ballet more fun as I got older.
I like this teacher 🙏 She is evidently a brilliant and observant teacher but she doesn’t shout at or berate the pupils. I noticed how she corrects different students differently (some by physically adjusting their position, some by using visualisations, others by demonstration) depending on their needs 🙌 She’s also so funny when she pretends to check herself in the mirror! 😂 That student won’t forget that correction after that.
I loooove the discipline ballet gives you. Like not every class is filled with hard poses. In fact it's a ton of control and building! This is what I love, and I miss this part of my so much!! 😢❤

This is what you call an Excellent Teacher! You can see, feel, and hear the passion in her voice and in her body demeanor. Someone that’s quality and only wants the best for for her students. I’ve had teachers that did not give a hoot to give their all.
I used to dance when I was younger for 16 years. I did it all, and ballet was my favorite, the beauty and the art of it. I'm 38 now, and I'm looking for an adult ballet class just to get back into it. Something that love and enjoyed doing. ❤
So graceful. This teacher is a gem.... She improved the technique casually and encouraged the student to go beyond. This way, ppl actually getting much motivations to stick on target and focus rather than instructor whom just wandering around and keeps complaining when you do not know what you've done wrong. I can't stand those teachers

It’s the same way personal trainers can and will poke different muscles to correct or get you to think about which to tighten or use. Your glutes are just as important as any other muscle to tighten/control in ballet. It’s a quick poke to whichever muscle just to get us to mentally note which muscle is being corrected or making sure it’s being used properly. So I’m sorry but I prefer a light poke over being injured because I wasn’t using a muscle properly.

I wanted to be a ballet dancer because it looks so gracefull and fantastic. Well, my parents thought it was too girly for a boy and put me into judo instead. I wasn't a happy bunny. I didn't enjoy judo at all and dropped out after I got my yellow belt. Both ballet and judo are difficult physically, but parents should listen what the kids want. The parents can kill the creativity in kids.

I was never exposed to DOING anything ballet related until I took a jazz class during college. I told myself it would be fun even though I had no background in dance other than fan girling over Baryshnikov and a few modern dance classes. HAH! The first 20 minutes or so was just work at the barre. I had no turn out at that age and lack of experience. Let’s just say, I was embarrassed and quite discouraged, but I didn’t drop the class 🤷🏾♀️😩
When I was 11, I had such a wonderful teacher..I’m now 73 so such teachers were rare at the time. She taught from her home and gave me such undivided attention and loving support. I still remember her so well and with much affection. I practiced for hours everyday at home. She believed I had much promise but all 3 of my younger sisters became seriously ill at the same time and we had little money for food and no money for ballet lessons (before insurance as part of a work package). She offered to teach me for free but my patents were from the “we don’t take charity” generation. Broke my heart to stop. I cried myself to sleep for months. My mother’s teacher fit the stereotype…hit her students with a stick…very hard…leaving them covered with bruises.
Barre is about making all the core and stretching look subtle so you can prepare for the dance performances. Barre is so passive aggressive, I love it!
As a former professional Ballerina for 30+ years & an Artistic Director of my own company - she reminds me of my French Ballet teachers. But my Russian (Vagnova ) Ballet teacher was much funnier! My favorite teacher of all SIR Frederick Franklin! I also enjoyed company classes with Edward Villela, too!
