I just need to remark on this Mans articulation. I’ve personally never listened to anybody who matches this persons use of language .
He doesn’t waste one single word , he’s incredible ❤
You need to listen and hear what he says

What i really get out of this is, you need a proper assessment of your back issue, going to see a professional might or might not get you a good assessment and good advice, it might steer you completely wrongly, so you need to see me to get the proper diagnosis and treatment. Good luck with that. The discussion is all very interesting, but not really helpful in a practical way.
Thank you for using our anatomical models to help explain the science of back pain.
Fascinating discussion! I wish I could see him. Thanks Bob & Brad & Mike for having Stuart McGill on your show.
Hi...I'm a 48 year old male, reasonably fit, working out everyday for the last 30 years. About 80% of my workout is body weight ( pull up, push up, running, shadow bowling, stretching etc) & 20% is light / medium weights.
I play active cricket.
In October last year, while doing a dorsiflexion stretch in lying down posture, I got pain symptoms of sciatica ( due to a disc bulge). Terrible pain lasted for about 7-8 days & after that it's negligible. I'm doing the McGill big 3 for last 8 months but a certain part of my left leg - near the outer calf muscle, still feels lightly numb. Sensory perceptions are 100% all right even there ( as per tests) but that numbness / rubbery kind of feeling persists. I am a left arm fast bowler in cricket & wish to continue with the game without debilitating perils to my back. Is that possible ?
I think so: th-cam.com/video/ebrqj_TOT9M/w-d-xo.html

This conversation is pure gold!
Excellent questions & Interview many thanks🎉
This guy is a global treasure and should be protected at all cost.
Dr McGill mentioned that a sign of ilio psoas injury is difficulty straightening body in last degree of action of standing up. Is that a common or reliable diagnosis? I suspect i have that injury.
I have this
@@sarahgordon2597 are you doing some rehab work?
Mam 64 lata i mam zmiany chorobowe w kręgosłupie.
McGill reminds me immensely of Menser
I was thinking to myself, “This guy! He puts thought into every single word that he utters.“ And the interviewer said, “that’s a lot of thought that you put into that answer.“ “Well, hopefully, that’s what we’re doing,“ the good doctor responds. Hopefully, yes, dear Dr. McGill. But realistically, no. You are nobility. As an intentional person who puts thought into everything he says, and does, I really appreciate you.
Dr.McGill mentioned smoking causes back pain or elevate back pain.. He meant probably for cigarettes smoking . Does smoking cannabis causes back pain as the cigarette smoking does ? So many people are smoking cannabis because everyone says its good for back pain. 😂
Can't even go to space to get rid of backpain.
Actually, exercising in pool is almost identical to weightlessness.
Nooooooo. I can’t stay so much time watching a screen. Put timetable according subjects.
Listening to this now while I'm on my way to a orthopedic clinic for my stupid back issue that just won't heal smh
Highly recommend taking the online courses CoreBalanceTraining
18:43 gonna tell my lady she has wonderful mass anteriorally ( o ) ( o )
LOVE this guy - Stu McGill. His thoroughness is unmatchable. Fabulous explanations.
💯
@bobbradpodcasts993 This discussion makes me wonder if the open book stretch is actually helpful or harmful for the back.... Perhaps Tom Myers that wrote Anatomy Trains could be a future guest, that would be amazing 🙂
in 1997 I had a very difficult time getting Drs to properly diagnose me with piriformis syndrome ... I would hope they would be more knowledgeable now.
Were you having sciatica symptoms from your piriformis syndrome like me?
I suffer from a L5 disc bulge. I saw a McGill Master Clinician for over a year. Spent thousands of dollars. Read all his books. Had a video call with Brian Carroll. Practiced his method consistently, daily for two years. It did absolutely nothing for my pain and injury. His master clinician couldn’t even identify the cause of my pain after countless visits. Very disappointing as he was my last hope.
some people just can't be fixed?
@@Dynamicdiscdesigns I only wish people like him and many others would discuss their failures as well. There is much to learn in failure. But I realize that doesn’t sell books and clients.
@@Dynamicdiscdesignsthen why does he speak as though he can fix pretty much anyone?
@@Pie1183Gamesthank you for saying this. His false hope hurt me as much as my injury did.

I didn't like the "Back Mechanic" because it focused only on the low back, rather than the whole spine (I had a hyperextended posture at the time and kept wondering why I had neck pain).
I think the issue is it seems like doctors are more hesitant to treat lumbar with surgery, so people are suffering with lumbar issues and few to no options
McKenzie method addresses the entire spine
I learned a lot!!
The big three isn’t helping with my pain
You need to work your hip to stabilize the lower back muscles.
How ?
The spinal region is very complex. You can directly work on your hip to stabilize your lower back but it can come from other things like the intervertebral discs etc. I am not a physiotherapist but I can advise you in private.

Why would anyone smoke anything and NOT inhale. That seems to be counterproductive. What would be the point?
Simply fascinating.
8:40, interesting concept "confidence". In actuality, in cognitive science, that's just the action-reward at play, in which case a reward could be negative (pain). The brain tries to protect you by registering the pain associated with an action, and it becomes subconscious. I suppose, all we are doing, here is redirecting the brain to find alternative pathways not to experience the negative reward at the expense of inconvenience or odd motion
I'm half way through this podcast and wow! These questions are over the top amazing and sooo informative!! Thank you both!!
I would like to find these before a surgery
Luckily my back is not an issue for me but is for a couple of family members.

Great video! 😀
Thanks!

Doctor spoke about joint instability a lot, my question is is there any way that we can make that joint be stable? In other words, in addition to strengthening the muscles around, can that joint repair by nutrition and exercises?
In his other videos he discusses the topic more
Joint instability is due to the muscles not doing their job properly

Has McGill ever talked about what he thinks of the reverse hyper machine for rehab?
I don’t believe so, but I’ve always wondered what he would say about it
Dr. McGill is a treasure!
Should I accept health advice from someone who doesn’t know who Trotsky is?
My knowledge of World History is apparently lacking behind my knowledge of the Human Anatomy 😄

Yes,you should consider
Mcgill is legend .trust him blindly

Never really gives a straight answer 😮😮😮
This is real life. Things are complicated.
If he gave a simple prescription and claimed it would work for everyone he'd get a lawsuit against him. He's covering his bases but also we are complex beings and unfortunately, there really are no one size fits all interventions for back pain.
Smoking what, though? I smoke high quality cigars w/o any negative effects. Cigarettes, on the other hand, are entirely different. Cigar smoke is not inhaled (horribly painful to do so) and smoked slowly; cigarettes are made with the poorest quality tobacco (powder) plus many additives and the smoke is deeply inhaled.
You still get nicotine absorbtion through the mouth. Also, gum rotting.
You do not help people
